Hey guys, so today when I turned on my computer, the system turned on, my ram lit up fans turned on etc, but no display, was working earlier that day so confused I press the power button on the case to reset and I seen sparks fly from the case. I quickly unplugged everything, after investigating I found the damage as you can see in the picture. So I guess what my question is, is there anything that can be done for the card and what might have caused this to happen, just a bad card or could there be a problem with my system?. I'm picking up a 3070 tomorrow hopefully and don't want there to be a problem when I try to put it into my system. A little info on the system, b550 aorus master motherboard Ryzen 9 3900x Aorus gtx 1080ti Hx1000i platinum power supply I've had the system for over 2 years with no problems and recently upgraded the motherboard and cpu, about 4 months ago with what's listed above, haven't had any troubles before this. I powered on the system without the graphics card to make sure it's still working, everything seemed fine, no error codes in the read out on the board but won't know till I get a replacement card Cheers in advance

Had my pc for 6 months or so, I built it and everything went fine for a long time. Then yesterday it wouldn't turn on, so I unplugged for a while and when I plugged back in and turned the switch on to power supply it threw sparks and made zapping noise out the back of the psu, I unplugged and took out the psu, tested it with the included jumper wire and it does nothing at all. Did it kill my whole computer? Should I buy new psu and plug it in and try it? Evga 650 ga psu Asus gaming plus x570 mother board Ryzen 3800x 2070 super

I was initially building a new PC for my so but when I was testing to boot the pc, the moment I flipped switch for the power supply, it immediately sparked and started smoking inside. I immediately unplugged the PSU cable from the outlet and honestly right now I'm scared I fried any electronics on the motherboard. The PSU in question is a Gigabyte P650B, R7 5700g cpu, 2x8gb ddr4 HyperX Fury ram with an Kingston m.2 drive. I genuinely don't know what to do here however I can confirm that there were no sparks on the mobo side. Just on the PSU.

My english is above average but I hope I won't confuse anyone, so here we go: Living in Greece. I have an SLI system, its a Coolermaster Storm Scout (first gen), i7, SLI, Coolemaster Silent Pro 850w PSU. I also own like 10 external hard drives and often, I swap em on my USB ports (mostly on front). Those 4 USB ports are ending on motherboard by 2 cables with an adaptor (so its impossible to connect em in a bad way or something). I figured out, that a specific drive, which is an Intenso 3 TB external HDD, creates sparks when I touch its usb connector to the metal part of USB port on front of my case. You don't need much effort to recreate this spark and in some cases I have the impression that the flow is continuous (Raiden Mortal Kombat lol). I don't get hit by power, there is no sound, I am usually barefoot and the floor ain't wood, touching the case doesn't kill you, a testing screwdriver doesn't go on (lol).. The newest external HDD I have, its an WD 4 TB drive, needs lots of effort to recreate a spark (had to hit the 2 metal parts like 60 times to see a spark). My oldest external HDD, a WD 250GB creates sparks but the Intenso one, is by far the champ. Still, the system works PERFECTLY for more than 4 years. The wall socket is grounded, and I tried to recreate it with or without my voltage regulator (bought a new one yday cause the other was quite old) + 2 surge protectors I have (voltage regulator is in the middle of em). So the question is this, ok, the external HDDs don't have grounded sockets (schuko plugs), my motherboard sits on those 9 screws (don't know how they call em), all cables inside seem fine, no powered cable touches anything metal, the PSU has metal screws to the case, that metal protector for motherboards ports sits fine (its supposed to serve for grounding aswell I guess) the case is sitting on plastic wheeled thingie. Is it normal to see a spark from a non grounded powered device? Some say yes, some say no, one drive does it easily, other doesn't and you have to struggle. I will mention finally that non powered things (like a camera, usb stick) don't create anything. I never had a blue screen or restart or crash (except a corrupted BIOS like a month ago but from another reason). My Sony NEX 6 flash shoots out sparks when using the flash. Any fix?

Ryzen 1600x @4.0 MSI B350 Tomahawk PSU Corsair RM650 80+Gold Corsair Venegance LPX 3200 WD Blue 1TB Kingston SSD 120GB I tried to OC my G1 Gaming 980 Ti earlier today(the settings on MSI afterburner were: Power Limit +39, Core Clock +100, Memory Clock +150 and a custom fan curve) and put it through a stress test on FurMark. The test was running for a few minutes(the temps were hovering at around 75C) and I decided to go for a smoke and call it a day, but after I came back the PC was off. I thought the overclock just failed but I also smelled smoke. So now I have replaced my 980 Ti with a HD 7770. Does this mean that my 980 Ti is completely dead? When I tried to boot my PC with 980 Ti, system turned on for a second and then a few sparks flew out of the gpu with a bit of smoke. I wonder this happened, I tried stronger overlcocks before and the system would just shut down, could the PSU be the problem?

I have dell U3417W, and it all of the sudden started showing little white and green dots that are "moving" around the screen. Display doesn't need to be plugged in any computer just if i plug it in the wall and turn on the display sparks show up. They also show if I plug it in the PC they are over the image. Does anyone have a clue how to fix it? Or what could be wrong? I already got warranty replacement but they let me keep old one and I want to fix it.

so i had like maybe 60 tabs up with home depot and calculators up then my pc just shuts off...... no blue screen or anything just powered off immediately like someone pulled the cord.. then i went to check the breaker and it wasn't tripped so i went back inside and turned pc on and saw through the glass that the motherboard sparked (asrock x370 taichi) .... what is the protocol steps to diagnose this... i was thinking psu is done but could it be possible its so dusty it caused a spark? **edited to insert picture also the spark was right at the blue rgb.. i have the lighting off maybe it was just white light trying to turn on then turning off??

So I have the new i9 touch bar MacBook pro and a Razer Core X, and in boot camp the eGPU runs fine, plays games like a champ, but as soon as I start to plug anything in, I see a spark and the laptop resprings, if I remove the eGPU and plug stuff in I see no sparks, and no respring occurs. The GPU: nvidia GTX 980ti The things I have been plugging in, a Thunderbolt 3 dock with an Anker 7 USB hub attached, a USB c HDD from LaCie a thunderbolt 2 Lacie HDD through a Thunderbolt 3 dongle I would appreciate a quick reply and no replies about getting a win pc because I am in no mood for it EDIT: After a few days of waiting for Amazon to deliver a few replacement stuff, I ordered a new hub, thinking it could have been the culprit, since one of the USB A ports was bent and was causing corruption when importing photos while using that port. So my conclusion is don't buy QacQac, as this is a serious fault that could have put me out of a £4,000 investment

Hi I was replacing ram on my laptop when I accidentally dropped the ram slot cover on the motherboard. I saw a spark and when I turn on the laptop, it did not boot. I know that it's because of esd damage to the motherboard. I want to know if such type of damage is repairable or not. I own a Lenovo Y520 Thanks in advance!

Allright, i never post here but i really need help. I own a Acer Predator Helios 300 and use it for everything. Lately i noticed i thermal throttels at 40% cpu usage allready. So i decided to take it apart and renew the thermal paste, thermal pads and clean the fans. After this process i closed everything and pushed the power button. I didnt do anything. So i began experimenting: If i powered it on with the battery installed, then i saw a spark around the middle of the board and the laptop wouldnt turn on. If i powered it without the battery plugged in using only the power cord, it would normally turn on. I saw a spark once, in the center again. If i tried to charge the battery after that (without turning on the laptop) the charging light would blink orange. I dont really know if i have a bad part of my motherboard, or if i have a faulty battery. Does anyone know, or can anyone help me find out? I know its my own fault btw lol

I pressed the case power button and my PC doesn't turn on even though it was working just 30 minutes ago. Opened up the side panel and tried using a screwdriver to bridge the pins. The lights and fans started up for a split second and then I saw a tiny spark near the motherboard pins and everything shuts down again. Now it won't turn on at all. But the motherboard light, GPU light, ethernet light, and keyboard LEDs are still on when the PSU is powered on. Why is the PC itself not working? Are sparks bad? Does it make sense that one specific part of the motherboard has stopped working? Just wanted to share an experience I had last night and to see if anyone else has had this issue. I built a x99 system two weeks ago. I got the Asus x99 A2 motherboard a i7 6850k, 32 gig of corsair 3200mhz RAM and a Asus GTX 1080. Anyway all was fine and the system ran great for two weeks. Last night I went to boot it up, after a few seconds, sparks and smoke stated to come from what seems to be the power controller on the motherboard. Strangely the system kept booting and I had to turn off the system manually. It seems that if I left it, it may have caught on fire :(. I have never seen anything like this ever. I'm taking the system back to the retailer to check it out and hopefully get replacement for the motherboard and possible the CPU if it got fried. I'll update when I get some news. Has anyone had anything similar to this happen to a X99 board?

Hello everyone. So I was just playing some Planetside 2 on my PC. It was also raining outside with a tiny bit of thunder and lightning, but I didn't think it was a big deal. But then the thing we all dreaded happened. Firstly, my display and PC turned off. After about 5 seconds, there were sparks in the PC. I immediately unplugged the power strip that my PC and monitor were connected out of the wall as well as my power line to Ethernet adapter. I have not yet plugged it back into the wall since the storm is still going on. So here's my question: Is my PC ruined? Was my power supply(450W Uncertified Rosewill power supply) unreliable or insufficient? Did I get a surge? P.S. Really lucky to have at least one year warranties on my parts. Built this rig 3 months ago. EDIT: Has been a day since the incident. Getting a replacement power supply.

I was building my PC(first time builder) and my motherboard LED showed a green light,the DRAM LED was red,but the CPU fan and GPU fan powered on.Also,when I tried to turn the PC on via a screwdriver,it threw little sparks,I am not sure if that damaged my PC. The motherboard I am working with is the ASUS AM3+ ATX M5A99X-EVO-R2

After having my X79 platform motherboard i decided to use the "EASY OVERCLOCKING" Feature to see how far it would stretch my cpu. so i restored my bios to default settings and turned off my pc and pressed in the overclock button. Powerd up the pc and bam a massive spark and smoke coming out were the Heat sink is at the top i think it was the LEDs as it smelt like them. MotherBoard : MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) CPU: Intel i7 3930K Revision C2 So my question is what do i do ? Contact MSI? buy a asus board? Here is the area the the smoke came from.
