Hey fellow tech enthusiasts! I've got a situation to share with you all. A while back, I posted a topic about a computer that had a knack for burning power supplies. Three power supplies down the drain! Anyway, following the advice of this awesome forum, I decided to invest in an XPG Pylon 600w power supply. But here's the plot twist: it turns out that the third power supply survived the ordeal, and it's actually my GPU (GTX 960) that's causing all the trouble with a short circuit. There's even a suspicion that this little troublemaker might have been the reason behind the demise of the first two power supplies. Talk about a sneaky culprit! Now, here's where I need your help, folks. I took my PC to a technician, and they quoted me a repair cost of $80. But hey, here's the thing: for around $200, I could give my system a slight upgrade and get myself a shiny “new” GTX 1650. The only catch is that my budget is pretty tight. I also don't know that I can trust the fix... So, what would you do in my shoes? I'm all ears for your creative and budget-friendly suggestions! Let's put our heads together and find the best solution to this fiery dilemma. Fire away with your thoughts, folks!

So my gf spilled redbull and start the PC but it never turned on. I noticed it and took the PC appart and dried everything and tried to remove the the redbull stains. I started it up and the PC lighted up and gave power to everything but the power button wasn't working. I tried to use a screwdriver in between power sw but nothing happen. My guess is that the power sw pin doesn't work anymore. I tried the other parts on another PC and they still worked so it must be the pins and if so pls help

Hello and good ...morning? Good day? What is "time".... H A L P New/used frankenstein machine: -Ryzen 7 2700 -MSI b450m-pro-vdh -32gb 3200mhz (DDR4 but you knew that already, nerd) -MSI 1080 Ti - Armor -256gb M2 NVMe -1200W Tt PSU 80-Gold -Other irrelevant storage stuff -RGB controller, fans, blah blah blah -All in a NZXT H510 case. Which is trying to kill me. Here's the skinny- I built her up all pretty, went to power on and the PSU tripped it's safety circuit immediately. No mobo diag LEDs, no fans, absolutely no power delivered anywhere past the PSU. Time toooooo..... BREADBOARD: -Mobo/cpu/cooler -1x8gb RAM -1200W PSU _______ Success! System powers on, cpu cooler makes perty colors. Ooooh, aaahh. BREADBOARD: -Mobo/cpu/cooler -1x8gb RAM -550W PSU swapped in for curiosity's sake -1080 Ti _______ Success!!! System powers on, POST, all the way to windows like we're goin for a ride! H510 CASE BUILD: -Mobo/cpu/cooler -1x8gb RAM -1200W PSU _______ SUCCESS!! System powers up. Here's where the real crazy is.... When I add the 1080 Ti, the whole system is right back to grounding out to the safety circuit. Why would the GPU being added cause a short like that? We know the GPU is good because it runs on the breadboard... A few diagnostic comments: -Standoff screws appear to be in the right spots. -I removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes just for kicks, with no change in behavior. Thank you in advance, I normally wouldn't be reaching out to anyone but the techmagos in me is really stumped here and the Machine God is displeased.

So, i just moved into a new college dormitory with my aging desktop, and all was well until about two days ago. I was just casually playing GTAV online after a steam sale, literally 30 minutes into my very first gameplay session online, when my computer just seemed to die after I got blown-up in-game. Would not turn on at all, no spinning fans, no light, nothing, although it thankfully didn't smell of burnt electronics. Afterwards, it turned out that the breaker that was tied to the power outlets in my room had been flipped somehow. The power outlets in my room stopped working, but I flipped the breaker in the electrical room and they started working again, although my computer still wouldn't turn on. So, I took my computer into a local repair shop, and they told me my motherboard had shorted and that they would fix it for $135 (the motherboard probably isn't even worth that much, but I needed my computer back by the end of the day because of college, so whatever). So, my question is what would have caused something like this to happen? Did my power supply fail and short both my motherboard and the outlet? Should I be afraid to even power on my PC? I have never had these problems with any other games before, including other new-ish games like Rainbow Six: Siege, Battlefield 4, Fallout 4, etc. I don't know if its relevant, but I have an AMD 8350, a GTX 960 and a medium-grade, fairly new 600 watt power supply that I bought after my last power supply shorted about a year ago. The whole system is now 2-1/2 years old. I also cant remember exactly what motherboard I have, since I built this so long ago. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi all, So I have been working on a project with the goal to build my computer into my desk. Everything was going well, I created my 24-pin and 8-pin cables for the motherboard and had the pc posting using internal graphics, and a sata power cable (OEM) for the ssd and hdd. I then create a 6-pin, 8-pin, and two sata power cables for powering the graphics card, ssd, and hdd respectively. Since the graphics card is mounted beside the motherboard I have a PCI-E riser cable to make that connection. Anyway, I now have all my cables plugged in and the pc should boot right? Sadly no, I have no power button for this build yet so I press the power button on the motherboard its self. First press the led numbers on the board shows the number 00 for maybe half a second before the pc turns off, second press and nothing happens, no led light up not even for a second. I tried a few more times to see what would happen and most of the time absolutely nothing happens but maybe 1 in every 7 presses the 00 will show up for no more then a second before turning off. Knowing that the problem must be due to one of my newer custom cables I disconnected the graphics card and I went back to a power sata that came with my motherboard. Having had that exact set up booting previously I hoped this would boot, but nope. Next I removed my 24-pin and 8-pin cables from the motherboard and plugged in the OEM cables, still same problem no signs of booting most the time, then occasionally 00 will show for a second before turning off. My first thought is that I must have short circuited the motherboard some how, but I don't see how I could have done that since I tested 24 and 8 pins previously and they worked with no problem. I only plugged new cables into the drives and the graphics card, could a faulty cable not plugged into the motherboard cause the motherboard to short? That wouldn't make sense to me, but hey that's why I'm here, I don't know whats happening. I want to keep diagnosing this problem, but I don't want to start swapping components if I have faulty cables since that would cause me to destroy even more hardware. What I am currently thinking is to buy a power supply tester and test each cable. I'm assuming something must be wrong with one of them which would have caused this. Once all the faulty cables are found I'll fix them, and try to boot with the same hardware but with fixed cables. If the pc still doesn't boot, and I am confident in my cables, I can start swapping out some components until I find the faulty component. I guess at which point I will have to replace whatever I destroyed (which must be the motherboard if anything right?). The power supply is a 750 so power shouldn't be a problem, but none of the components should be an issue as this project is using all old hardware that all use to run together with no issue, all I was doing was mounting everything to some wood and creating some custom length cables. Basically, I'm wondering if any of you guys have an idea of what might have caused a lasting issue that even after going back to OEM cables the pc won't boot. Do you have an suggestions on how to correctly diagnose the issue? Do you think my plan of testing the cables and then trying new hardware is a smart approach or would you suggest something different? Any input is greatly appreciated, Michael

Linus already does a lot of sponored content of LTT, and short-cuircuit is just more sponsored content with video sponsors (main-gear PC. laptops, and unboxy tech stuff). Some of Linus' recent videos on the main channel have been "unboxing", which could have been uploaded to 'short-circuit' instead? Does the existance of short-circuit mean better conent in the main channel? I really loved the older Linus review because the were in-depth (iSwitched [Imac 5k review], iphone6/iphone7 reviews?, S8 review,, he even did a great windows phone review [htc phone]) (or Luke's blue iphone video? I can think a lot of older videos that I liked a lot) (The ULTIMATE RGB PC Build Guide!) even some non-linus videos are great, the intro to Key-mouse video! Taran's keyboard and Bandon's camera videos! even their short-ciruit videos (Taran/Brandon) were well done compared to Alex sounding like he's reading a product pdf like a wallmart sales rep. I feel the channel is trading script/topic quality for quantity for the past 2 years. some of linus' older videos feel less obnoxious even though they are less polished (The ULTIMATE RGB PC Build Guide!) I'm not hating on linus or anything because honestly Linus is the reason I watch these types of videos and i'm just concerned for the channel/media brand in general. Linus is the reason I got into PC building and tinker around with tech as a hobby. I watched the retirement livestream live and I thought of not talking about this, but I don't know I feel like the company's video production is losing direction, because linus is appealing to the broader audience. There have been really good videos every now and then! the recent Linux video Linus once said that he didn't see unboxing videos as having a future, but now he does a lot on sponsored content to the point that its scary. also there's less and more diluted review for both CPU's and phones to the point I don't see a difference between other channels that don't do in-depth reviews (ryzen XT cpus? I expected linux to say they are crap like GamersNexus or Hardware unboxed), this applies to phone reviews too they feel really diluted, like something Android Authority or some gerneic phone reviewer would write because those channels try to appeal to the niches and sell products in the end. The older linux videos were poorly done, I dont know but I feel like if you put same effort as a server room upgrade in a linux video, linux video would have made a better videos but no. Also I have a buisness idea, but since i'm just 19 years old take it with a grain of salt, move all sponsored content to short-circuit OR make another channel that does proper niche tech conent with the 2016 style back, you have the capital to do this! I just want to end this saying I'm not a hatter or someone who is salty, I just see a lot of potential wasted... well maybe that is me being salty? idk How many linus videos does it take to upgrade anything? A. one for each sponsor, each for every custom cable
