Greetings, I wanted to discuss a couple of things with you experts in this post and would like to have your opinions. 1. PSU and GPU Compatibility: I own a Corsair RM850e (2023 version, comes with a 12vhpwr cable) fully modular PSU which I have paired with my MSI RTX 3090 Suprim X. I have it plugged in and the system seems to work, I just wanted to understand something from the safety and stability point of view. The RM850e comes with only 4x points for CPU/PCIe (2 each) with 2x EPS cables (both of which are taken by my Z790-H Motherboard) and 1x 6+2 PCIe and 1x 6+2 with a pig-tail 6+2 connector, the 3090 however has 3x PCIe connector points. I have noticed some markers going online mentioning that it is best to not use a pig-tail connector on high power draw cards, and the 3090 is rated at 420w consumption. My question is, is the setup of this GPU with 2x dedicated and 1x pig-tail connections to the PSU safe enough to not catch fire? (I don't care much about getting every drop of performance out of it). If it is unsafe, what should be my steps forwards? Can I make this system work as it is? or do I need to undervolt the GPU? 2. DDR5 RAM Compatibility: I built the system up and did a Bench Test, which went well, however, during the BIOS update from v1202 to v1501 for the Asus ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming WiFi motherboard, the system did not post with the DRAM orange light solid. I flashed the other versions of the BIOS into the board, which sometimes worked, but not for long. I started troubleshooting and the system posted with 1 RAM stick removed from the 2. This lead me to a Reddit trail where the user mentioned that the RGB on the RAM stick was so much that it did not boot without the XMP enabled. So, upon trial of: removing one RAM stick > booting the PC > updating the BIOS > enabling the XMP > installing the other RAM stick, the system started working completely fine. The RAM here is G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32, 16x2, DDR5 6000. Hello everyone, have a good day, I recently bought a corsair rm850 power supply from Amazon Germany. I also tested with AIDA64 and OCCT on my system. I don't have any problem. But every time I turn the system on or off, a tick/click sound or a fuse sound comes out from the power supply. Is this sound normal? Thanks. Youtube Video

I've read about the 850x being the better version compared to the 850 so that's not really my question. My options are: RM850x (CP-9020180 - 2018 Edition) RM850 (CP-9020235) The 850x is ~$14 more which I don't mind paying but I think the 850 is the newer model. I can't tell what the differences are aside from some different cables that are included. So the question is do i go for the 850x despite being the older model or have there been changes, to the 850, that would make it the better option? Or should I just go 850 cos it's cheaper? I hope I'm making sense.

I just read one full preview for this Corsair PSU RM850 and i wonder if its compatible with this corsair case I say this because in this case the PSU must be side ways Specifications and Part Analysis Corsair's line of RMx power supplies are renowned for their compact dimensions and quiet operation, but not their low prices. With an MSRP of $119.99 (£109.99), the new Corsair RM850 promises similar performance and acoustics to the more-expensive RM850x, but at a more affordable price point. However, to cut costs, Corsair has used lower-quality capacitors and a lesser cooling fan. These compromises result in a PSU that's not quite as quiet as its big brother, but could be a good choice if the street price is significantly lower. Corsair's new RM (without the "x") line consists of three members with capacities ranging from 650W to 850W. All of them are more affordable versions of the corresponding RMx models, which we expect to be updated in the near future to be fully compatible with the latest ATX specification. The RM units mostly use Chinese Elite caps, which are of decent quality, instead of the superior Japanese Nichicon and Chemi Cons and employ Hong Hua rifle bearing fans instead of Corsair's more-powerful NR135L. These changes might not be welcome by PSU enthusiasts, but the fact is that they don't seem to affect the product's lifetime since Corsair provides exactly the same warranty period (ten-years), in both RM and RMx units. Two new features of the RM units, which are not present in the RMx 2018 line, are the increased efficiency under very light loads (2% of the max-rated-output) and support for Windows 10’s new Modern Standby mode that enhances boot speed and connectivity for your PC. The S3 sleep state usually takes anywhere from 7-15 seconds to turn on depending on your PC's configuration, while the Modern Standby function promises to bring that to reliably under five seconds. The RM850 is a fully modular power supply and contrary to the RM850x, it doesn't use in-cable caps which might offer better ripple suppression, but also make the cables bulky rendering the cable management process harder. The unit features semi-passive operation which, unfortunately, cannot be deactivated. This means that the power supply should not be used in chassis where the PSU compartment is sealed or with the fan grille facing downwards, because the hot air will be trapped at the PSU's internals causing high stress to its parts.

I currently have an RM850 and my current system build is black and blue and the stock sticker is yellow. I wanted to replace it with these I was wondering if I removed the sticker and replaced it with a new one, would I be voiding my warranty?

I was in the process of trying to make the inside of my case look fantastic but ran into a bit of a hiccup with the terrible yellow color of the Corsair RM850 power supply. I thought about buying an HX1000 or even the newer model of the white RM series but figured I would try a cheaper option. I did some Google searching for a power supply "template" and found a few good images just by searching "corsair power supply sticker" into Google. This is the template I uploaded to the site below. Originally it was a different color but at the time I wasn't sure what color scheme I was going to use so I just went with the very neutral color of grey. You can easily use paint to update the colors. I then went to vistaprint.com and uploaded the image into the bumper sticker option. I got two of these which ran me about $12 after shipping and taxes. I did some quick measurements, made some cuts, and then applied it to the power supply itself which at first was tricky but being a bumper sticker was great because it was very forgiving and could peel it off and reapply to the PSU. Below is the before and after shots of the power supply (please note I changed cases, fans, added a very unnecessary RAM fan, changed cables, and did some much needed cable management) So it isn't a fair before and after picture. If you guys have any questions I would be glad to answer any questions you have!

Full back story: Recently got a new build. Got an Asus 980 Ti Strix and Corsair RM850. The 980 ti coil whined really badly. Got a replacement and still coil whines as badly. Did more research and apparently by RM850 is garbage. And that I should have gotten the EVGA 850W G2 to begin with. As of now, I still have my old 980 Ti Strix and the new replacement unit (due date for sending back the old one still 23 days away. ). However, I only have 8 days left before I can't request a refund for my RM850. If I do decide to refund it, the EVGA G2 costs 50 euros more, so I want to make sure there's enough reason for me to refund and upgrade. So, the questions I'm asking is: 1.) Is it really that likely for PSU to cause GPU coil whine? Does upgrading to a G2 have any chance in stopping the 980 Ti's from coil whining? I have researched and have found very few (like, 1 so far) of reported cases where RM850 caused GPU to coil whine and replacing PSU helped. 2.) Even if upgrading to the G2 don't solve the GPU coil whine, is the RM850 really that bad? I mean, I ran 3D Mark 11 and have tried stressing both GPU (980 Ti SLI) and CPU (4790K) at the same time. No random shutdown or any issue whatsoever (Except some artifacting in early test, although that seems to be gone now). Perhaps it's a long term thing? That the unit will degrade over time due to it's lower quality component? Is the G2 really that far superior over the RM850? All responses are appreciated, thank you!

Hello there, To begin with I'd like to thank all of you (including linustechtips.com) for your support over the past year sine I'm the member of this forum. I have to note that in my master race build, I went mostly with the suggested components on forums and everything worked flawlessly until I finally got my gpu - Asus Strix gtx970, and now another one - Asus Strix gtx980ti. I will take some time and post my full PC specs this time, which are: CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k @~4,4GHz ( Using my bios EZ tune mode - auto ) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1866 GPU: Asus Strix gtx980ti DC3OC MOBO: Asus Maximus VII Ranger PSU: Corsair RM850 SSD: Samsung evo 840 250GB Case: Fractal Define R5 ( with window ) All I can say is that I am happy with most of the components and thankful to you guys for helping me pick those out. But, my problem, as said above, started when I got my first gpu after 4 months of using my PC with integrated graphics. The first thing I noticed was that my gpu (gtx970) was making a buzzing noise, I didn't really care until I moved my PC onto the desk, when it started being really annoying, so I went out and returned my gpu, after which it was marked as defective and I was offered a replacement or exchange for another product, so I went and bought a gtx980ti, thought it would serve me well in my next build... The moment I started a game with my new gpu, drivers were installed etc., the buzzing noise became insane, even if I put my PC on the floor and a pillow next to it, I could hear it - that was on low settings. Once I set everything @ Ultra, I was getting 90ish fps, it was buzzing so loud that even if I moved to the other corner of the room ~4 meters away, I could still hear it and it was still very loud. I was wondering, was there a problem with some of mine components that could cause such a defect since this is the second card (from the same retailer) having the same problem, just this time it was so loud that I instantly removed my gpu from the pc and packed it up for another RMA. Is there a way that some of my faulty components, psu is only thing I could think of, could damage the gpu, or could it be caused by my cpu "not being quality enough"?

So Newegg has an AX1200i Factory refurb for $239.99 with a free Refurb RM850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139131 I don't like that it only has a year warranty but I'm sure I could sell the RM850 and have a decent deal here. Anyone have experience with refurbished Corsair products?

Card - R9 295x2 Psu - Corsair RM850 So my card need 2 8 pin connecters with 12V 28AMP Question is which are 12V 28amp Connecter on My psu i cant find it anywhere written on manual , where should i connect it, In which 2 sockets. so my card get 12v 28 amp minimum from each wire.

Hey people, I just set up a brand new computer with an i7-4770k cooled by an Antec Kuhler 920, Gigabyte Z87X UD TH, Corsair RM850, Corsair Vengeance Pro 8Gb(2x 4Gb) 2400MHz and a Gigabyte R9 290(947MHz). When I press Shutdown in Windows, the monitor goes off as does the leds in the motherboard, but the fans keep on running: the ones connected to the motherboard aswell as the ones connected to the PSU and the Antec Kuhler led stays on. I double checked cabling, I got both 12v 8 pin and 4 pin EPU cables connected, 24pin ATX is also in the right place. I initially thought it could be the the front panel connectors, but I disconnected them all and powered the computer on with the button on the motherboard, with the same results when shutting down. Any guidance would be well appreciated!

So currently i have RM850 in my rig and i'm giving it to a friend and upgrading to AX860 the thing is i like the RM flat black cables and i already done a fine job of cable management since the AX860 comes with ugly sleeving i was wondering if i can just use the RM cables that i already have and give the AX cables to my friend along with the RM850 so i end up with AX860 and RM850 cables because to be honest i don't plan to spend money on Corsair sleeved kit or a sleeved extensions
