My brother asked me what he should do to start playing Baldur's Gate 3 at 4K, he is going to be getting a monitor (feel free to leave recommendations) he says he's okay with 4K 60 FPS, but I want to make sure it's able to keep doing that with newer games with the higher graphic fidelity that is definitely coming. He also has to upgrade his PSU, but that just adds time so to speak. He doesn't necessarily have a budget, he just is going to save until he has enough, so good quality components are more important to him than ease of purchase. I am aware that AMD's recent GPUs are a very good value currently, especially with what NVIDIA is doing with the pricing of the RTX 40 series. Would I be better to point him at AMD, or is Intel at a point where I could actually recommend it to someone? I imagine he wants to do high settings, essentially even made tracing, which I'm again not sure how AMD performs at with Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077. He currently has a Ryzen 5 to 600X, a horribly mismatched set of RAM 32 GB stick at 3200 MHz and an 8gb stick at 2666MHz (He did not ask me before getting that or even tell me he needed more RAM) so I was also going to recommend he replaced that 8gb stick with an identical 32 gig stick since the CPU should be more than capable. I appreciate anyone who read the full text dump, sorry it was so much. Thanks for any responses!

Thanks to that PSU Tier List form I've learned that the 1000W B1000M Lepa Maxbron powering my system isn't exactly safe to use. My trusty MaxBron hasn't given me a single issue in it's 5 years of service, but I'm still looking to replace the PSU in my system with a safer, more robust option and would appreciate some advice/recommendations. I know I need to change the PSU, but I've got a fresh case of choice paralysis... My case (P3 Core) has an open design with no PSU shroud, so I'd prefer an RGB PSU option if available, but quality & reliability come first. My specs CPU: 5600X GPU: Sapphire 6800 XT Nitro SE 16GB x 2 RAM, 2+1TB in storage, LED strips, etc I want additional headroom for OC'ing things, as well as the NVMe drives, AIO CPU cooler, etc that I'll be adding to my build eventually Lastly... the mfg suggests a minimum 850W PSU, but the calculators I've used suggest a 650W supply would fine. Additionally there's threads like this: How many watts would I need for a 5600x and rx 6800xt system? - Power Supplies - Linus Tech Tips that suggest that my particular CPU/GPU combo isn't exactly thirsty for watts. I'm also curious what causes the discrepancy between the two numbers. Why does Sapphire recommend an 850W PSU? Thanks,

Hey Guys, I'm currently modding a Macintosh Classic to a modernish PC. Now that I'm nearing to finish this project I'm searching for a good looking keyboard that will suit it well. I've already modded an "Apple Desktop Bus Mouse" to be wireless and compatible. So if anyone out there has a good recommendation to buy without breaking the bank, feel free to post them here. I would also appreciate, if you have suggestions of building custom keyboards (with partlists) or some guide of modding old ones to be USB or wireless. Those three keyboards i have found and thought about them, but the DURGOD ones are too expensive for me.

Looking for a new phone around $200 (250 is my max). Trying to find something slightly better than my old phone (Redmi note 7). -Performance is priority as well as a headphone jack and microSD. -It would be nice to have 5g as well but that might be difficult at this price point. -I'm looking for general recommendations so please don't ask me for specific sites as I'm not even sure yet. (tho if you know of good deals feel free to tell me!) -I plan on buying it out right, not as a carrier deal. I've tried searching on my own for awhile after a failed attempt at getting recommendations earlier but geez is shopping for phones difficult nowadays.

Hello! I have an ASUS pre-built and am thinking about getting a new GPU for it, seeing as the 3060 is starting to become less relevant. I have my specs in my profile, and I need a GPU that can run any game at 1080p and at least 60fps. I prefer Nvidia RTX cards, since AMD's RT (i think) is still in it's early phases (could be wrong about this). I also can't have something that bottlenecks (obviously).

I'm looking to replace a 2019 16" Macbook Pro with... something else? Here's a bit of background, to help you understand what I'm looking for: I have a laptop through work; it's a completely maxed out 16" Macbook Pro. This is literally my favorite laptop I've ever owned. I love everything about it, save the slightly weak-sauce GPU. (I casually game; so like I'll play Borderlands 3 with friends once a month, and am working my way through Doom and soon to be Doom Eternal, but mainly relegated to AAAs from 2015, Source games etc.) Well, I'm switching jobs, which means I will now be laptop-less. My personal laptop is a 2012 Retina that had the GPU desolder itself, and I partially fixed it with my oven... it's not stable enough to be a daily driver. So, I need to buy a new laptop, and I'm struggling to find something with the creature comforts of the Macbook Pro, that can also game decently. I should also point out, I was out of the PC hardware game for about 10 years; the last time I checked in on Nvidia desktop GPUs was when I bought my GTX 760. So while I know 2080 is the king of the 2000 series, I don't really know the real difference between a 2060, 2070, and 2080, and I have no idea what the heck Max-Q even is, practically. My budget is $4000, but it's a soft budget, if the perfect machine is $5000, I'll still go for it. Here's what I will use the machine for: Software Development. (It's my job) Multi-threaded rendering (not gfx; more vector and image processing workloads; I work with huge GIS datasets for work) Lots of dockers running locally, as a test bed Multiple databases, and minor load testing Conferences: I need a laptop that can last doing some small amount of the above for at least 8 hours, without a plug. Hobbyist CAD/CAM (3D Printing, just getting into CNCs) Writing Moderate photo editing, and maybe the occasional video editing? Moderate Gaming Linux Compatibility (I run either Linux Mint or macOS as my main os) Here's what I would like from the Mac: "Retina" class display. (2k is probably fine, but I've never used it on a laptop.) USB C charging, with a strong preference for USB C on either side. Large, non-crap touchpad I will also accept IBM's nub. (I grew up on thinkpads, still love the nub.) 15+ hr battery rating, so I can get ~8hrs real world, with a few good compiles in there. Decent keyboard is a must; I used a "butterfly" keyboard before the 16", and it about broke me. Hated it. Lightweight; my new job is going to involve a lot of travel once that opens up, and I'll be using is on planes, or in airports a lot. Reliability: I'm rough on my machines, throwing them into backpacks, dropping them like I'm making an LTT video, etc. I love me a metal laptop. I would much prefer to keep that aspect, if possible Things that do NOT matter to me: PC vs Mac Brand loyalty RGB AMD vs Intel. (I'm an AMD Loyalist from the Athlon XP days, currently have a Ryzen 3700X system. Love AMD. But Intel still rules laptops.) AMD vs Nvidia (As long as it runs those games at 60fps, I'm good) High Refresh Rate. (I've never owned anything over 60hz, not sure it matters enough to me to start now.) What I'm really hoping for with this post is people who have personal experiences with machines can recommend ones that match what I'm looking for. And yes, I could just buy another 16" Mac and be done with it... but I've got a chance to look into the PC world again, and I kinda want to see what's there; better graphics performance, that's for sure. Plus, I hate giving Apple money, so I'd like to avoid it this time, if possible. So, do you guys have any suggestions? Or advice?

My i5-2400 has recently started to show it's age. My peaks and tweaks have reached the end of their limits. My current setup of what I"m looking to upgrade is a HP 8200 Elite running a i5-2400 processor with 4x2GB DDR3 and Windows 10.. I'm looking to upgrade to a i5-6600k and I need motherboard suggestions. Since new RAM is not in the budget, I need to stick with my DDR3. This PC is for gaming, browsing, and running Unreal Engine for developing the 16-bit style video game I'm working on. I've never been a graphics elitist, so high end graphics for gaming are not needed. Lower mid-range is fine for me. Also, having a weaker PC serves my needs for development perfectly because if it can run on my system, it will run on everything from next-gen down to budget mobile without issue. I don't want people complaining it doesn't run well for them and my response being, "Well it ran on my Binford 11,000 without a problem." I've included a photo of a non-modified 8200 Elite. Mine has modifications to the rear framework to allow space for a non-small form factor graphics card to fit. (Tin snips are fun and will be used again if needed:) Thanks for your time, thought, and responses! HP_Compaq_8200_Elite_PC_-_i5-2500_3.3_4GB_500GB_DVD-RW_Win7_Pro_COA_-_2UA1401HFK_5_grande.webp

Hi, I have been eyeing an upgrade for a work/home PC I built in 2014. Here is what I was thinking: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor $309.99 @ B&H Motherboard Asus ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard $119.99 @ Amazon Memory G.Skill Trident Z Royal 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory $179.99 @ Newegg Storage Intel 660p Series 2.048 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $204.99 @ B&H Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card $839.90 @ Amazon Case DIYPC Vanguard RGB ATX Mid Tower Case $78.99 @ Newegg Power Supply Corsair Enthusiast 750 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply Monitor Acer ED323QUR Abidpx 31.5" 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor $359.59 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $2093.44 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-13 01:51 EST-0500 In the above build, I am carrying over the GPU, Case, PSU and the monitor from my existing build. A few details about my current build are: I7-4770k and Z87 Pro Mobo with DDR3 RAM. Upgraded the case and GPU on it, around an year ago. I had a few questions around the above build and wanted to get the communities expertise: 1) What are your thoughts around the above build? 2) I am in no need for PCIE gen 4 as of today and thus am not looking at x570 MoBos. But their prices are dropping and seem like a good bargain as they are getting in the price range as B450. What do you think/suggestions? 3) Is it worth upgrading my 1080 to RTX 2070 (refurb/used) as they seem to be within 100$ of price difference? 4) I like the aesthetics of the Trident Royal RAM but am hesitant about the timings and the 32GB kit being CAS19. What does the community think? 5) I would also like to dip into custom water cooling loop. I like the resilience water reservoir but think its over priced. What parts do you recommend for water cooling loop? Should I consider Aliexpress for the same? 6) Would a full tower be better for custom water cooling loop? The purpose of the build is going to be: 1) I am a software developer by profession and use it for my personal projects 2) Gaming: RDR2 / Total War Series / Ready for CyberPunk Approximate budget is 1000$ inclusive of custom water cooling. Thanks a lot in anticipation Cheers

So I'm relatively new to the forums, but I wanted to ask if anyone here travels for business? If you do, where do you travel to and what are your favorite spots to visit, eat, shop, meet people, or drink? Currently (at the time of this writing) I'm traveling for work and I'm in Taichung, Taiwan. I thought it would be interesting to find out if anyone has any recommendations of spots they've personally been to that I could visit, but figured maybe others could benefit from hearing about places elsewhere too. So, if you've traveled abroad and have any recommendations, leave a message. It would probably be best to name the city and country, along with as much detail about the place you have or can remember. Also, I know that some countries have a tendency to change rapidly (I hear restaurants in Taiwan do this), so let us know when it was that you last visited that place. Feel free to add any more info that you can or a cool story about your trip.

Soo... I just got the Philips SHP9500 and I was wondering what EQ settings I should put on these, since I heard these work best paired with good eq and an AMP and DAC. I found an eq settings on reddit that was over 4 years ago and what I dont like about his settings is that the audio is quite low even at 100% in games, and the bass is kinda low for me, I also paired it with HeSuVi because Im not used to just stereo. I play mostly competitive games. Should I just stick with Stereo? and what eq settings can you suggest for gaming and music? (Im new to eq and such so I dont really know how to make my own atm ://)
