Hi Guys. I have an itch to upgrade. I'm thinking of upgrading my three year old system an wondering if its worth it? I primarily use this for gaming. Will this be a decent upgrade? I currently have 4690k 4.4 OC, Asrock z97 extreme with 16GB 1600 G.Skill ares ram, MSI GTX 1060 gaming X 6gb. I'm looking to upgrade to R5 1600X, Asus prime B350 plus mobo and G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz DDR4. Thanks!

Hello guys, Just a few questions I'm planning to build my first PC, but i have some trouble with choosing a CPU. I have two options: 7700K w/ Maximus IX Hero or 6800K w/ X99 Strix. It's for schoolwork, video-editing and gaming. This is the parts list: Intel Core i7 7700K / Intel Core i7 6800K ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO / ASUS ROG X99 STRIX ASUS ROG STRIX RX480 O8G G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3000C16D-16GTZR NZXT KRAKEN X62 / Cryorig R1 Universal Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX TG / be quiet! Dark base Pro 900 Corsair RM750x Western Digital Blue SSD Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX So the question is: What CPU / Chipset do you recommend, What cooler do you recommend and What case do you recommend?

A few months ago, I posted a thread about an upgrade path that I should pursue. Fast forward to now and I still haven't made the upgrade to Ryzen. And a good call for my part since coffee lake just got recently released. But now, I'm having more of a difficult time to decide which I should go for. I'm leaning on an i5-8600k (going to OC to atleast close to 5ghz) or a Ryzen 5 1600x (paired with X370 Taichi or a decent B350 motherboard that can reach 4ghz flat OC only if possible). I'll list all the intended use for the rig below. 1. Mainly gaming (AAA Titles and latest titles like Shadow of War, the upcoming Assassin's Creed Origins, etc.,) at 1080p @ 60hz (144hz in December hopefully). 2. Video Recording and editing (mostly recording games at 1080p 60hz and gonna edit them to upload on YT) 3. Streaming (something that won't lag for the viewers if ever. Say 1080p 60fps?). I'm planning to keep my RAM, PSU, and GPU to be used in the next build. Buying a new case for this one (Eyeing the Fractal Meshify C). Ram = 8gb 2x4gb DDR4 2400 Corsair LPX CL14 PSU = Seasonic M12II 750w evo ed GPU = XFX RX 480 GTR Black Edition Or is there something else that I should change or upgrade? Can you guys offer me some suggestions like if I were to purchase an i5 8600k, what are the things that still needs to be upgraded (other than the obvious motherboard and CPU), or if I were to purchase a Ryzen 5 1600x (ram concerns and motherboard selections)? First of all sorry if my english is very bad. So, i have a R5 1600X but i dont have my motherboard yet, so i was wondering if a B450 chipset will be better for my cpu instead of a B350. I know that some motherboards of Zen first generation had issues with bios and memory compatibilities. Maybe on the b450 those problems are solved at launch, idk. And maybe some features not strictly linked to Ryzen+ architecture could work on Zen first. Thanks in advance.

Since I'm getting a new GPU (GTX 1070) soon and also want to up my PCs physics simulation/rendering/CAD capability I've decided to also upgrade the rest of my system and get a 6-core/12-thread CPU. Here are my options: #1 Buy an Intel Core i7 3930k and a high-end X79 mainboard used. Pros: Ridiculously cheap 6-core CPU (about 100€ ~ 120$ where I live), ridiculously cheap high-end X79 MBs around (I could get one for 100€ from a friend), allready have pretty good DDR3 RAM, great overclocking, there isn't really an upgrade path to speak of (there are 8-core/16-thread xeons for X79 around though) Cons: IPC is even worse than Ryzen lul, not really an upgrade path, no warranty at all due to german zivil consumer laws Total cost of upgrading: ~200€ (VERY tempting price to performance?) #2 Buy an Intel Core i7 5820k and an entry-level X99 mainboard used. Pros: Better performance than a R5 1600X while it costs about the same, way better performance than a i7 3930k, somewhat current architecture, excellent upgrade path all the way up to a 10-core/20-thread CPU, very decent overclocking Cons: relatively expensive option, would need to buy very expensive DDR4 RAM, no warranty except for the RAM, more than twice the price of a 3930k Total cost of upgrade: ~500€ (CPU: 220, RAM: 160, MB: 120) #3 "Dude, just buy a Ryzen" Purchase a R5 1600X and a X370 mainboard new. Pros: A bit cheaper than a 5820k while only slightly slower, faster than a 3930k, very capable overall, get to learn about overclocking on a new architecture, possibly(!) a very good upgrade path (who knows what Ryzen 2 might bring us - maybe 16-cores/32-threads? Otherwise at least a relatively affordable 8-core/16-thread), warranty for all the parts Cons: Most expensive option, doesn't overclock well, needs DDR4 RAM, still not as well developed of a platform, would need a new cooling solution, also more than twice the price of a 3930k Total cost of upgrade: ~550€ (CPU: 220, RAM: 160, MB: 130, decent air cooler: 40) (also, ouch... My poor wallet) What I don't want / what's not an option: Coffe Lake. Way to expensive here in Germany, if you can get one at all. X299/2066 It's bullshit and no one should support intel for their crap. B350 mainboards. I wan't all the features and all the overclocking from my mainboards.
