Hello, I am trying to start my home media NAS and I’m really new and inexperienced when it comes to home servers. I am using a slightly old gaming computer as the basis; specs: i7 6700k, Gigabyte z170 gaming 7, 2x8Gb G.skill trident z 3200Mt/s, AMD r9 270x (from a older build but I figure it’s enough, may be wrong), 2x2Tb SSD, 1x2Tb HDD, 2.5Gb networking card with a Intel I225v3 chip, 750 watt Corsair power supply. I am hoping to make this not only a home media server that I can access remotely but also use the excess power for a game server. Nothing too crazy just like a small terraria or Minecraft server. I am wondering if it’s possible to do this and if so what OS should I use? I set the current system up as a Unraid server but I have had a lot of difficulties with it so far and a lot of troubleshooting even to get unraid to recognize the trial key. I’m not inexperienced when it comes to computers and using the command console but unraid was just giving me a hard time and it was difficult to find forums with answers to my situation. I’m wondering if I should be looking into jellyfin or plex or even another NAS OS or if I should keep chugging forward with Unraid. Keep in mind I’m not entirely sure how some of these can be run together yet or if they even can be. I am willing to take the time to learn a lot of this as one of my favorite parts about computers is tinkering. I’m just new and don’t entirely know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey, I'm trying to upgrade my spouses PC; they were previously on an mildly old Intel CPU. I previously upgraded their GPU to a 4070 (before the TI was out, rip.) The GPU worked perfectly fine in the old build. Now I've upgraded the CPU to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D; due to the switch to Team Red, I've also upgraded their Motherboard to a MSI MPG B650I Edge Wifi and since that board needs DDR5 memory, their RAM is now the Corsair DDR5 5600MHz 16x2 set. So quite a few changes at this point. Full current setup: CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D GPU: Zotac RTX 4070 RAM: Corsair DDR5 5600MHz 16x2 MotherBoard: MSI MPG B650I Edge Wifi Power Supply: ThermalTake 80plus Smartseries 700W CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X53 Case: NZXT H210 The problem: SOOOO the problem is that it won't POST right now. When powering on the PC, the lights come up, everything seems to turn on, but no output to the monitor. There's also two lights that can be seen on the motherboard; a yellow and red light, solid and non-flashing. All fans, pump, and lights come on, but no ones home. Attempted Solutions: All HDMI and DP have been tried on both the GPU and the motherboard Reseated the CPU Reseated the GPU Reseated the RAM All connections have been reseated Clearing BIOS with CMOS button Unplugging the CMOS battery for 5 minutes Flashing the BIOS with an updated BIOS on an external USB using the dedicated flash button and USB slot Research has led me to believe all components are compatible at this time Attempted to boot with only PSU and monitor plugged in; no peripherals No changes from anything. Just those damn little red and yellow lights boring into my brain like Elon Musk suggesting a "great idea" for Vegas traffic. Ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi Everybody! Well, I joined up. Finally. So I'll admit that I'm rather naive towards forums in General. I guess Reddit is my best personal reference when it comes down to forums. Point is, I decided to sign up as a way of showing some support, insight and mostly just because I want to be apart of the LTT community and such. I've managed to set up my profile with ease as it's pretty straight - forward. I'm trying to whether or not one can have a personalized feed and such. I've been trying to follow various topics and such and would like to try navigate through them in a more relevant time and relevant, present time topics. Does anyone feel the need to perhaps tell/show if and how to set up a personalized feed?

Hi there! So this is my first time building a PC and I got the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard, which has WiFi but requires you to download the WiFi driver before WiFi works. I have found plenty of basic overviews of how to do this- download the drivers on a flash drive and install them, but am still unsure about the exact process. Do I install them in the bios? Can I? Do I have to set up my OS before I can download them? Do I have to download them before I can install my OS since you need WiFi? If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. Just so you know I will be installing Windows 11 as my OS.

Budget (including currency): 500 usd for the PC, 150 max for monitor, mouse, and keyboard (including rebates, deals, and discounts) Country: houston, tx, usa Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Lots of web browsing (lots of open tabs), fl studio for music production, valorant, league of legends, genshin impact, and I'll most likely pick up around 2 more aaa games. Other details I'm upgrading from a 2009 toshiba laptop that my dad bought for me off ebay. I need a monitor, mouse, and keyboard (150$ max for these peripherals). I am planning on buying before 2024. I want to play at a minimum of 1080p, 60fps and a 60hz refresh rate for a monitor. I don't have any existing parts. I'm am fine with buying used parts as long as the seller isn't sketchy. I am also ok with buying from eastern markets like aliexpress. I want to capitalize on deals. I want this PC to last me for around 5 years, but I don't really want to future-proof it (I just want it to be workable and playable over that time period, not looking for the best graphics). I don't want apus. I'm not that big on aesthetic, as long as the pc doesn't look horrible. I want a higher quality case with dust filters and fans, but don't want the price to be over 70. I want 16gb ram minimum (2x8). I want the motherboard to have extra ram and SSD slots if I feel like upgrading in the future. I want my mouse and keyboard to be wired.

Budget (including currency): $900 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games would be mostly destiny 2, Apex legends, Rainbow six siege, etc. Will be using PC for streaming and content creation as well. So should be able to handle streaming and gaming at the same time. Already have monitor, mouse, keyboard, microphone etc. Just need the PC. Planning to buy in a couple weeks to a month. Would like to be running at 2k/120fps but I know realistically with my budget I'm probably looking at 1080p/120fps. Also would like to say I'm all about saving money over appearance. So cheaper the better.

Have a ~4 year old TT toughpower grand gold (TDP-1000M semi modular) making too much noise now. Vibration + loudish constant coil/electrical sound and loud fan. No pc crashes or anything yet. Looking at the corsair rmx2018 (white) or the TT gf1 argb or anything else in the price range of ~$150 that would be better. Looking for quiet operation and full modular. 1000w was overkill, maybe 750 this time, unless there're some 850s for the same price/performance. Thanks.

Budget (including currency): 1000$ Country: United states Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: beamng Minecraft (with shaders and texture pack) and other games So I built this machine a while ago when the i7 7700k 7th generation was really good I wanted to upgrade my graphics card which is a msi GeForce gtx 1050ti to something more powerful I don’t want to bottleneck my cpu and I know that my graphics card is a bottle neck because under heavy load my graphics card gets the hottest and my cpu is just warm to the touch

So, long story short: I recently built my own pc, but I’ve been having some bugs. Once I started it, everything was alright (Installed windows, installed steam, discord etc.), but once I restarted it, my pc seems to be not working properly. I can’t stop it by pressing the power button on the I/O, but when starting it, it works as intended. But my main problem comes from how when I start my pc and go to desktop, it launches all of the apps that usually run on startup, then it freezes my monitor, turns it off for about five seconds, displays the frozen windows and then my monitor crashes. The pc even seems to be working afterwards (lights are shining, fans are spinning, keyboard and mouse are lit). Just before the restart, everything was working very well, but now I have no idea what and why this is happening. So I’m reaching out to see if someone may offer a solution. (images put in as reference) (and when I plug the hdmi in and out, it just says the same message)

Hello all! I am currently looking into moving parts from an old PC into a new case for a friend to use, but I am going to install new hard drives. I have a Windows boot drive but I am not sure if I can install windows using the original key, or if I need to purchase a new copy. I am using all of the same components minus the hard drives. At some point I thought I heard that a windows key/install is tied to the motherboard but I am unsure. Just figuring out the out of pocket cost. Thank you!

Okie so I purchased a pre-built back in November (2021). It’s my first desktop and has been amazing— now is the time to start looking at adding more storage though and Ngl… I’m really lost here. I have a MSI B550-A Pro motherboard with one m.2 SSD currently installed. I’d like to stick with SSDs. Specifically I need a drive for data storage (dwg. Files mostly). And I’d like a second drive to keep and play my steam library off of so it’s not on my OS host drive. just don’t really know where to start, everything I thought I “knew” has disappeared from my brain and I feel like I’ve gone full idiot… help please

Can someone please explain this memory speed information? I have recently upgraded to an ASRock B450M Pro4 mobo and am running Vengeance LPX 16GB in a 2x8GB configuration at 3200MHz with XMP. However I was interested in adding a little more and it seems like from the mobo specs page that I would need to run it at a lower speed 2933 or 2667. Can I still run all 4 sticks at 3200 or is 2933 the fastest this mobo can run 4 sticks? I still can't figure out if my memory is SR or DR, is there an easy way to check this? Also, if I bought different Vengeance LPX with the same latency would it be a problem if I mismatched the sizes? (2x8 and 2x16 for example) Here are the motherboard specs I was talking about Parts I'm running: Motherboard: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450m Pro4/#Specification CPU: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-5600x Memory: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-LPX/p/CMK16GX4M2B3200C16#tab-tech-specs

Hey people I am thinking of building my first gaming pc and I would love to get some suggestuon or improvement in my build. I was going to buy a laptop as I thought I would have to frequently move cities but thought investing over a good PC might be more value for the money as I came to a decision to stay at my current place for atleast next 4 years of my college life. I am kind of confused to whether my psu would meet my power requirements and whether I can make a few compromises here and their and save a few money. And I am confused if the case I selected will be a bottleneck considering my AIO and if this build can potentially cause any future issues.Few questions I have are Will I need to buy windows separately and install it on my pc after build? If so then how do I do so? Is this build future proof? Am I blasting my budget on anything that's overkill or might not improve performance much if downgraded? . . . Help is much needed and appreciated.

Hello, I recently did a small overclock to my CPU before upgrading and it did marvels for my i7-4790k. I've never done the process with a GPU and was wondering about if it's safe to do in an air cooled system. Unfamiliar waters here so I know there's always an inherent risk, but I don't know if it's at the level that this overclock will fry my card in a year or something crazy. Just trying to gauge how taxing it will be. I don't want to be looking for a card in this climate; damn scalpers. Thanks for taking the time for my newbie questions/ concerns and if you have any overclocking tips much appreciated. Firstly, I am not sure what forum this should be in so if it's in the wrong one please excuse me. Thank you for your consideration. Okay, Hello everyone who is reading this, I have some questions and not sure where to start with this but the general Idea is I'm searching for answers. About servers. :) Let's get into it! What I want to do: I would like to configure a spare PC that I have lying around to be used a home media server. The main purpose being to stream movies/tv shows from a hard drive to my local network(not a media site, preferably). Additionally, if I could use this PC for two purposes I would also like to be able to use it as a photo storage(accessible from my phone). This is also a future endeavor that I'd like to look into but just curious if at all it's possible. What I have: The specs of the spare pc are. CPU: i9 9900, CPU Cooler: ML120RGB, Mobo: ASUS Prime H310I-Plus, Memory: G.Skill 16gb(2x8gb 3600mhz), Storage: PNY 120gb SSD(as boot), Seagate 2TB HDD 7200RPM, PSU: EVGA SFX Gold 550w, Case: All in a NR200 Mini ITX case. I have noted all of it here so there's no confusion. I am willing to get a bigger HDD, if the need arises and I included the specifics to show power draw estimation and the size of case of which I have to work in. If you have any more questions concerning the specs of the PC, I will be obliged to answer them. What I am looking for from you: I would like any advice in what my possibilities are and what you think the my issues will be with said possibilities. I am very tech savvy, but servers are in the realm of unknown for me right now. Videos suggestions and other forum guides are welcomed, I don't have an issue with reading or researching on what to do. I am just not sure where to start. What I know: I have built many PC's and watched an unspeakable amount of LTT videos :). I have worked with linux and ubuntu before, briefly. I am very familiar with Windows, but I am not against using other OS's. I understand there's more performance to be had with other OS's and it wouldn't be a trouble to learn them. Lastly, thank you all who made it this far, I broken up this text up to not feel like a wall of text(hopefully) and to categorized it for curiosity. Let me know if you have any questions regarding anything I missed and I will be glad to reply when I can. I deeply appreciate any help, once more thank you.

I could really use someone's help, please! I have a 120 AIO liquid cooling system in my pre built pc. The problem is I'm worried the company I had build it for me, did something wrong. I keep seeing other forums saying their liquid cooling systems get them temps in the range of 35-45c, but I always see somewhere in the ballpark of 60-70c. I'm very new to the pc master race, so unfortunately I have a ton to learn. Thank you all in advance! Maybe you can also tell me where I messed up with my parts?
