Sorry, this is kind of a long story. But there's a lot of details. But I just bought an Asus Z590 ROG Maximus Hero XIII (13) to run my i9-10850k on and an ROG Strix GTX 1070ti. I was upgrading from an MSI z490 MPG Gaming Plus. I just wanted to treat myself to a nice board since the one I already had was pretty bare bones. It was working flawlessly the night BEFORE the mobo swap. Anyways, I bought the Hero about 3 days ago at my local Micro Center and had an opportunity to install it last night. I got all my hardware switched over and went to boot it up. I had it plugged into the DP port on the GPU and in turn that was plugged into my monitor. I hit the power switch on the Hero (as it had one and it was easier at the moment) and it went through the POST cycle. Then it hit me with a "D6" error code, which I looked up and it says it's a "Graphics Card Abnormality." Yea. Real descriptive. It basically just told me to make sure it was plugged in, try a different slot, etc. So I moved it down to the lower slot with little luck. Pretty much had the same exact problem. Trying to remove variables I put and HDMI cable into the Hero (as it only has HDMI) and took the 1070ti out to force it to run on integrated graphics. I was able to boot into the BIOS that way. Then I realized it wasn't recognizing EITHER of the m.2 NVME SSD's in the system anywhere in the BIOS. I had one in the top slot and one in the bottom and neither was showing up. I decide to go to bed and sleep off the frustration. I woke up today ready to try some new things. I took my dad's RX570 out of his system and put it into mine and it worked. Inversely I put my 1070ti into his system and it also worked. So something was not working properly with the interface between the Hero mobo and the 1070ti. I called up Asus tech support and the deepest they went was removing the CMOS battery before basically saying "yea we have no idea what to do. Level 2 support will call you in 24-48 hours" which is quite inconvenient for me. Hopped back in the car, drove an hour to Micro Center, and got it exchanged for a new one thinking I just got really unlucky and got a bad board. I even took the 1070ti with us and asked the guy at the service counter if he could fashion a quick test bench just to ensure it worked with the new Hero board and 1070ti. He said sure and while he set it up, we had some nice conversation. About 5 minutes of messing around and he got it up and running and it even booted up their windows m.2 SSD. The only big difference between his and mine is he used a 10400 and a different RAM stick. I left feeling confident it would work because I just saw it work with almost my exact same setup. I got home and started to put everything together. I tried to replicate it all exactly as he did. Put the m.2 in the same slot, the power cords in the same spot, etc. Tried to replicate everything exactly as he had it. Went to press the power button and..... same thing. But almost worse. I couldn't even boot into the BIOS with integrated graphics not to mention with a graphics card. Q code D6 every time. In a fit of 'screw this" I pulled everything out and set up a crude test bench with the old mobo (the MSI MPG). One stick of RAM, my AIO hanging off the side, wires all over the place, PSU sitting on the table, I didn't even clean and re-paste the cold plate and CPU, I used the same stuff I just applied not 15 minutes ago. Plugged the DP port into the MPG with no graphics card installed. Due to the MPG board not having a power switch, I had to jump the connector with a screw driver. Once I did that, it booted right up and the bios appeared. Shut it down (with the screwdriver again) and installed the 1070ti. Plugged the DP cable into the GPU, shorted the power switch, and once again, booted right up. Shut it down again, installed the m.2 boot drive, and boom. Booted right to windows and I was able to sign in. Still waiting on Level 2 tech to call me. Most likely will call tomorrow morning while I am still asleep with my luck. Kind of want to throw in the towel with this board, but I want to give it a fair chance. Maybe I'm missing something important. Does the community have any thoughts? Anything similar happen to you? Also no, I haven't tried flashing the BIOS. A) I don't fully know how and B) I don't even know if that's necessary. But I've been wrong before. Edit: my friend says the 'mobo is being a mofo' and I just had to share that cause it made me laugh Further Edit: System was built in my kitchen on tile floor and on a wooden table. So quite unlikely to have any ESD problems

Hi! I've tried looking this issue up a bit, but I didn't bother too much, because at the end of the day my PC works fine. (it's about 7 months old I think, maybe more) I'd still love an answer as to why it behaves the way it does, because it intrigues me, and perhaps someone here knows or can help figure out wtf is going on. I built a new PC. Ryzen 2700x, Gigabyte B450 Aorus pro, 16GB ram. took my seasonic PSU and my RX 480 from my old PC. I am 90% sure the PSU is a "SeaSonic G Series SSR-650RM 650W", though I'd have to open the case up to be sure. now, the problem. TL;DR: I am using the power loading feature on my motherboard. without it the PC doesn't POST. if it doesn't POST I technically can't get to the BIOS to enable power loading - this only happens when the power goes out. to get to the BIOS I sort of need to jump-start it. I press the case power button - then I turn the PSU off and on in ~0.5 seconds. this makes my PC work until the next power outage - I'd like to know why, and what does my "jump-starting" it actually does. Full story - Bought my new shiny parts about 6/7/8 months ago(CPU, MB, RAM, Case) While assembling everything - the wraith max really f***ed me, and I put it on wrong. this made me CPU snap out of place and a few pins were bent(none broke luckily). I was able to straighten them very carefully, and after a lot of fuss, My PC lived....... well sort of. lights turned on, everything seemed to come to life, but there was no BEEP. I look at the Motherboard lights to see what causes the problem, and I see the CPU red LED lit up. I start to physically feel ill. Did I just spend all this money on a CPU just to destroy it because I couldn't open the damn instructions to see how to install the fan? ffs. I start testing it out. disconnecting and reconnecting cables, test bench on the MB cardboard with as little variables as possible, other sockets in my home, and for a while nothing. suddenly I hear a beep. I look at the motherboard LEDs and none of them are lit. MY PC WORKS! idk what went wrong but I figure I'd connect it back to my case because I fixed something, and to my dismay, it's dead again. I chat with my friend, who works at the computer store chain where I bought the parts(though not the same branch). he basically tells me to try and figure it out with them, see if they can get it to work, and not to talk about possibly warranty voiding stuff like turning on the test bench with a screwdriver, OR BENDING THE CPU PINS LOL. anyway I go to the store, bring my MB, CPU, and Ram, figured they'd have everything else needed. luckily for me they really liked me, so I was even allowed inside the lab to see it all happen(friend told me they aren't allowed and can get fired, so kudos to you guys, much love). the guy got it to work right away, with as many reboots as I needed to believe it wasn't a fluke.(guy was also using a screwdriver lul) and so I was ready to blame my PSU. I figured however that because it didn't fry anything, and my PC did turn on a couple of times, I should bring it too, to check if it was the issue. after trying and failing to get it to work at home, I bring everything other than the case over to them, and again, everything works wonderfully, with as many reboots as my heart desires. I get frustrated. guy at the store looks at me like I'm an imbecile, and so I go home again and try to figure out the problem. maybe I'm doing something wrong when i put it in the case? are the standoffs bad? nothing sticks out to me. I assemble everything inside the case, and it does not work. I am tired of this bonanza. my house is broken. I go to the shop with the PC as I assembled it at home. guy takes it to the lab, powers it on, and everything works. EVERYTHING WORKS. IS MY HOUSE ACTUALLY BROKEN?? guy at the store looks at me like a complete buffoon, and we laugh it off...... This fight is now mine alone. I go back home and try to power it on, but to no avail. defeated I sit in the living room. has my electricity betrayed me? why the f*** does this PC not turn on? I just try to fiddle with it now, maybe if I hit the top of the case(yikes) - OH IT WORKED WTF. I reboot it - and it's dead again. I am dead inside right now. out of nowhere I get the idea to try and "Jump-start" it. maybe if I turn the PSU off and on again fast enough, it will work. I was desperate, so i figured I'd try it, and it WORKED. WHAT?!?!?! reboot - PC is dead. I use the PSU trick again, and everything is working now. very interesting.... lets go to the BIOS and start setting everything up! I go to the BIOS, and see this very conveniently named "Power loading" feature. - I look it up in the manual, and I don't understand a word. something about a power dummy, were they talking about me? "after all my PC has been through, this feature won't kill it.....". I turn it on and reboot, and it works. Do I not need PSU trick anymore. I reboot again a couple of times just to be sure, and sure as hell, everything works. I am amazed. this was all I needed to do? but HOW THE HELL WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO IT IF I COULDN'T GET TO THE BIOS?? that doesn't matter now. PC works and I am happy. fast forward to now. had a power outage today. after power outages, I need to do the PSU trick, because there is no power for power loading, and I guess the feature shuts itself off. the power outage today re-ignited my interest in the issue, so I am posting here now, and perhaps I could finally get an answer from someone who knows something, because I sure don't. I'm just glad it works. after reading this wall of text - if someone has an answer to any of these questions, I'd really love an answer. 1)By doing the PSU "jump-start" trick, and I significantly damaging or risking damaging any of my components? 2)What possible reason on earth made my house not suitable for the PC to POST? Why did everything work without flaw in the shops lab? does my house have bad power? 3)Wtf is power loading and does it increase my electricity bill? 4)What could be the defected part? which one is most likely in your opinion to be the culprit? If there is any clarification needed I'd love to give it to you. if you liked my dumb story spread it around, I'd really love an answer, even if only hypothetical.
