Hi everyone. Due to the new update of the valorant anti cheat, a friend of mine needed to enable tpm 2.0 and secure boot, once the computer restarted it showed black screen and no POST, so we tried to unplug the cable from the power, turn off the power supply from the switch, remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds and put it back, once restarted nothing has changed. So we tried to remove the battery for about 30 minutes and reset the CMOS from the clr_cmos jumper. Always black screen. Any type of help is appreciated. Specs: CPU: Intel i5-8400F GPU: XFX RX 570 8GB RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 MOBO: H310m S2H 2.0 SSD & HDD.

hello. i need help, i want to reset my bios and i cant clear my cmos by taking out the battery. it has a clear cmos that is labeled jbat1 but it is not 2 pins like the other motherboards, its like a flat solid thingy. can i still reset it by touching it with a screwdriver? see pictures below

So, yesterday I decided to overclock my i7 3770k. It just went wrong because I changed the core ratio to 4,7, and ofc it was too much. The first time it shut down I just removed the cmos battery for a few minutes and everything was fine. Then I decided to use only 4,2 GHz on my cores. But it seemed to be still too much because it shut down again. But this time it wouldn’t boot up. After trying many times and clearing the jumper, removing cmos, ram, etc... it worked again but without the battery in. So today when I put my battery back in again ( I guess the cmos battery changed to over clock settings again) it wouldn’t boot up. I checked everything and I’m 100% nothing is broken or damaged. I always changed things with the psu power off, left hours ( more than 5) to try again and reset the cmos. But the pc just runs normally without recognizing the monitor/keyboard/mouse. So I can’t get to the bios and change it again. I really tried everything (using cpu only, 1 ram at a time, with/without battery, with/ without jumper) and nothing seems to work. I know for a fact that nothing is broken because yesterday after 3 hours leaving it with no power it worked and I even played Warzone. The problem was the reset didn’t save because it had no battery cmos, so as soon as I put it l, it overclocked again... The last thing I can try is just leaving it till tomorrow and try again... my pc: -HP mobo z75 Pegatron -rtx 3060 ti -i7 3770k -12gb ram

Mobo = Asus x370 Prime Pro BIOS version 0511 (It is said to work with Ryzen ) Processor = Ryzen 1700x Ram = Corsair vengeance LPX DDR4 8x2 C15 3000Mhz GPU= Asus Strix 1060 OC PSU = Antec Edge 750 First of all, I forgot to attach the CPU power Pins and i started the mobo by touching a screw driver on the Power and Ground pins. Everything was glowing but no display. (I thought it was a BIOS problem as x370 is known to be notorious with Ryzen but the BIOS version is 0511) After half and hour I inserted the jumper in the Ground and power pin while the PSU was ON. From that moment onward the mobo isn't ready the start. The leds on the mobo won't glow either. Tried installing the ram in different slots but its worthless when the mobo refuses to start. Now when I realized about the CPU pins, I plugged in the CPU 8 pin power cord but still the mobo acts like it is dead. Is it really dead? Need help please.

My computer will only boot and work if the jumper is placed at 2+3 position(i.e bios reset position) and won’t turn on after loading optimized settings and setting the date then putting the jumpet to its normal 1+2 position. I’ve a Msi 945GCM7 motherboard and i don’t have much knowledge about the system and jumper positioning( i only followed the internets methods and still cannot figure out) The pc works fine when putting the jumper at 2+3 position but i get thrown to the screen where it says cmos setting not correct. As per my diagnosis the problem is with the motherboard and no other hardware.

Hi all,So, let me tell you an interesting story, filled with a nasty hint of BAD LUCK and nerve wrecking "your whole life flashing before your eyes". I have a msi Z270m Mortar motherboard, in a Thermaltake Core V21 Case, during use, the led strip connected to the motherboard carrying 12v just unglued from the top of the case and because the mobo is in an horizontal position, the strip hit precisely the 2 pins marked as “JCI1” which I believe is from the case intrusion. Just to get this straight, the led strip could have fallen in many places, but it fell precisely and aligned with the 2 pins on the motherboard with the contacts of the LED Strip. One in a thousand possibilities. Fl*ck Me hah? Anyways, right after the contact, the motherboard immediately shuts down never to turn on again, not one sign of live, even after clearing CMOS. Basically the sign to turn on the PSU isn´t even sent. After some troubleshooting, and testing components I was pretty sure only the mobo was wrecked, so I´ve ordered a new, same line motherboard and the other components are working fine with no issue. Hurray! This is where it gets interesting, a normal person would just thrown away the old mobo and get along with his/her life. It just so happens I MAY have an OCD where I hord computer components and I have a really hard time throwing stuff away if I´m not 100% sure they are unfixable, and even they aren´t fixable, I´ll probably reporpuse them. For exemple, if I cannot fix the mobo, I´ll just put it in a frame for a nice painting on the wall. Nite. Anyways, I don´t want to give up on this one, so I´ve checked the PCB extensively to look for signs of any blew or torched point, but I couldn´t find anything. NOTHING. Physically the motherboard seems to be fine. Hence, yesterday I connected a old PSU that I have to the motherboard and tricked the PSU into thinking to turn on using a Jumper (while using another jumper in "POWER SW” located in the motherboard). To my surprise the motherboard lights up and the fans connected to it do turn on, and the CPU light turns on (which is normal since I didn´t have any CPU placed in the socket, my 7700k is on the new mobo). After some research and some more serious eye concentration checking the connections on the board, I´m pretty sure the 12V went directly to the BIOS chip. And that´s the problem. The BIOS CHIP! At this moment, I find myself with 3 possibilities. 1- I have a corrupted BIOS, that can be easily fixed placing a crappy CPU into the board and flashing the BIOS and installing it again. 2- I have a completly destroyed BIOS but an healthy chip, in which case I have to use a flashcat and install the bios from another PC using the USB adapter to the JSPI1 connector. 3- I have a completly destroyed BIOS and a completly destroyed ROM in the chip in which case its just a paper weight for an ant. And the only way to salvage it, is to weld a new BIOS Chip (which i dont know if I can buy one online, if so, I can try it, I guess...) Having that said, i´m trying to make up my mind if its indeed fixable and if it justifies to buy a crappy intel celeron G3930 and flash the bios and if that doesn´t work, try to use the flashcat adaptor. If it comes to this, the overall price to repair it myself will be somewhat close to a new mobo. What do you guys think? I really appreciate any suggestions or past experiences that any of you might and that could help me? Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance!

I just bought myself a dell Poweredge R410 from eBay and 2 xeon E5620's. I have myself Intel coolers and plugged them into the PSU directly. I also have 8 times 1GB DDR3 ECC ram sticks. Is there a way I can jumper this board? I have been searching day and night how to do so but I can't seem to find an answer. Here are the links to the things I bought. I bought a evga 750w psu a few days ago, and I used the jumper to test if its working since I don't have a desktop. right after I plug in the power cable and switch it on, there was a spark right under the psu fan and its dead. I made an RMA and they are going to refund the money. Now that I give the same psu another try (since its $10 cheaper the other day I checked) I was wonder could anyone here figure out if I did anything wrong? or it is just another defective unit?

The power button on my case doesn't work because the cord between the button and the motherbaord was snipped whilst the computer was turned off. Have you got any advice? My grandfather who has experience in electrical says just using a block to bridge the wires (and making sure positive goes to positive, negative goes to negative), and the power button should work like normal. I've taken the jumper off the motherboard for now and am just using the motherboard's power button. Any thoughts?

Hi! As the title says, I have to clear my CMOS on my MSI Z77A-G43 but it didn't come with a jumper. I have the two pins to put the jumper on but not the jumper itself. Is there any other way to do this? Are you basically just putting metal against metal with a jumper or is there some resistance in a jumper? So, pretty much what I'm trying to ask, is it OK to use something else (what in that case?) or should I try and buy myself a jumper? Does the jumper have some special feature, like resistance or whatever? Or is it OK to use whatever conductive metal I have laying around? I just want to make sure so that I won't mess up my board more than what it already is...

I'm trying to restore an old laptop I have just to do some web browsing and watching movies. I ordered all the parts I could possibly need ( including charger, which I had lost), when the charger came in I powered it on only to find out that for some reason it requires a password at the very beginning right after hitting the power button. It gives me 3 chances to enter the correct password, and then it powers down without giving a code or anything. I have pulled the whole thing apart looking for the battery, or jumper with no luck.
