Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and even to the world of hardware. I compared here (Intel's official site), 3 different processors: i7-7800X - i7-7820X - i7-7700K. In the specs I found that 7700 has less cores but that runs faster (?), I mean the base processor frequency is way higher than the other two, and even the max turbo frequency is higher. More cores makes it faster, and it's ok, the other two even support more ram, and yeah, more frequency doesn't mean better, but then, what's the best processor (probably 7820, but why?) (I work with 3D) Thanks

Hi, Last week i assembled my new workstation with components: Corsair CMK64GX4M4A2666C16 4x16GB Intel Core i7-7820X 3.60 GHz LGA 2066 CPU Box Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB AMP Edition GDDR5 Graphics Card Be Quiet BK019 Dark Rock Pro3 Heatsink and Fan Samsung 960 PRO M.2-2280 512GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe Gigabyte Intel X299 AORUS Gaming 3 Chipset LGA 2066 DDR4 Be Quiet 850W Power Zone Power Supply Unit The workstation was really unstable on Linux boot i get CPU errors. I updated BIOS to last release and boot installation with flags acpi=off intel_pstate=disable that give me option to install operating system. For start tried ubuntu stable version 16.04? That version all the time crashes on installations. After this tried 17.04 which is development release still unstable after about 10 tries installed correctly. With the kernel flags acpi=ht that allows me use hyper threading. All the time i get problems with crashing applications or even stack PC. dmesg show nothing only some info about crashed application. There was issue when google chrome crashed i can't run it again computer needs reboot. Some looks like memory issue? I did everything like was in motherboard manual. Memory setup in BIOS "best stability". CPU never was overclocked. lm-sensors showing crazy temperature 29 Celsius on CPU so looks ok no heating. Next issue when i tried to change distribution, because i think the hardware is too new for old Linux Kernel in Ubuntu tried to install UEFI keys for ARCH Linux in BIOS don't detect secure mode... My computer after reboot - (save setting on bios) stop responding. I clear the CMOS taken off battery for one hour. Summary: last BIOS, 5 beeps, no temperature jumps - temperature too low? No overclock Somebody can help me? EDIT: @DildorTheDecent I know there is issue with CPU or Motherboard currently sent back CPU Other notes: The computer on boot linux sometimes got stuck and no react form reset button. I think was BIOS before upgrade

Hello down below is my plans for an over the top gaming rig, and I would like some advice on it (if cooling is efficient, any other part suggestions, ie) This build will be only for gaming and I may add a second 4K monitor in the future, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was working on a project the other day and a friend noticed that my CPU (i7-7820HQ w/ base of 2.90 GHz) was running with a clock speed of ~3.6+ GHz even at 2% utilization. I thought this was just a fluke, but just restarted my computer and it went right back up to 3.6 GHz. I spent some time on Google but didn't find much except that my processor seems to be running at the i7-7820X spec. I know that overclocking a processor can cause long-term damage, and I only need these kinds of speeds when running Solidworks or Machine Learning applications + some gaming. I'm basically just looking for any explanation as to why my processor is overclocked by 0.7 GHz being that I have never set that up on this PC (Dell Precision 5520). It doesn't bother me a lot, but it is unnecessary most of the time and wrecks my battery life.

I am building a new BEAST gaming pc - going all out - no holds barred. It will have TWO 1080ti GPU's bridged with SLI, 64GB RAM, water cooled and a bunch more goodies. I have narrowed by cpu options down to these two cpu's - Intel Core i7-7820X Extreme Edition Skylake 3.6 GHz LGA 2066 Boxed Processor *OR* Intel Core i7-8086K Coffee Lake 5.0 GHz LGA 1151 Limited Edition Boxed Processor Now, I've been researching this for a few weeks now. I am fighting with myself over if the i7x / x299 chipset is actually worth the extra money. What are the advantages to it over i7 / z370? As far as I can tell, by comparing these two processors - both are going for $399. The i7-7820x has 8-core & 16-threads and runs at 3.6GHz / 4.3GHZ turbo while the i7-8086k has 6-core & 12-threads and runs at 4.0GHz / 5.0GHz turbo (ALLEGEDLY!) Now, the only substantial difference I can see aside from the cores/threads is that the i7x supports up to 128gb RAM, while the i7 only supports 64gb. - This is not an immediate concern as I don't plan on having more then 32gb-64gb anyway. Userbenchmark[dot]com shows that the i7-8086k is the 4th fastest cpu out of the box - only behind the i9x series. And the i7-7820x is actually 9th. But - is the i7-8086k really as fast as advertised? I NEED to know what you all think? I'm not looking to edit video or anything crazy besides game in 4k. I hear that cores/threads aren't really important for that. PLEASE tell me which setup you guys prefer, and why? And tell me which do you think is superior to the other, and why? THANKS!

The Titan MKI Project is the start of an over the top PC for a mix of work loads (For my older sibling who needs some serious PC firepower to run numbers) and a powerful gaming rig. The beginning of the project has begun with the ordering of the Case, PSU, Radiators and Case Fans. I should be ordering the rest of my water cooling components from Singularity Computer(Res,Pumps and coolants) and EK Water Blocks(GPU and CPU/MOBO BLOCK) in a week or two. I am working a full time job so i may not be as active as i would like to be but stay tuned as i plan to have this build done by June or July. So my old PC decided to die a little too soon, can't figure out if it's the motherboard(R5E) or the CPU(i7-5820k) that's not working anymore and decided to no try and repair/replace what's broken and instead upgrade to a newer generation. I will keep everything I had except for the CPU and mottherboard. It had a 1080ti, 1000w Corsairs PSU, 16 GBs of RAM and some SSDs+HDDs. What I need is an advice on the CPU-MoBo. Should I go with the intel x299 and 7th gen i7-7820x or i9-7900x or should I go with z370 and the i7-8700k. I usually use the computer for gaming on a 1440p@160Hz monitor. I also stream sometime and do some video editing for YouTube(Sony Vegas/After Effects) and also use it for programming. Budget: £1000.
