I went to update BIOS and once PC rebooted it started in BIOS recovery mode. At this time i am currently unable to use the CD-ROM, so i have been trying with USB-stick. I have tried to use the oldest to newest BIOS versions and a few between, but none of them have worked. When trying older versions i dont even get display output and newer versions gives the error, xxxx.CAP is not a valid BIOS file. USB-Stick is formated to FAT32 I am sure that i got the right motherboard type.

help Bios flashback showing a solid green light.
ExploFI posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
My friend bought a TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS(WIFI) and an AMD 5600G it didn't turn on so we tried to do a bios flashback. It didnt work and showed a green solid light. We tried most things the internet has to offer but nothing seems to do the trick. What could be the fix? When we try to turn the computer on the lights turn on but the fan doesn't and pressing the powerbutton does nothing. -
flashback will not work on NZXT N7 B550
Nuclearbeat posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So I have built my first system using these parts; Ryzen 5 5600x NZXT Kraken x53 Trident Z 16gb 3600mhz 3070 Gigabyte Aorus All of these parts went into the NZXT H510i case. So to get started, I built the system and plugged the PSU in only to find out that the cpu and dram debug lights were flashing along with a continuous beep code and I figured I had to update BIOS for the new 5600x. When I tried flashback, using two different USB drives, both formatted to FAT32 and having the bios and only the bios in the drives and renaming it to "creative.rom" per the manual and the flashback light just never turns on, I dont know what to do, Ive tried resetting CMOS, and even reseating the battery along with taking out the CPU and RAM to try to flashback and it still doesnt work. I dont have another CPU to update the BIOS so im stuck looking at my build and not being able to use it.-

I cannot get the BIOS Flashback to work at all on my ASUS Maximus XI Hero motherboard. I recently updated my BIOS to version 1401. I've been having nothing but problems with this BIOS version tried reverting back to the factory default BIOS version and the previous one that I was on which was version 1302. When flashing back the light blinks 3 times, and stays lit and never turns off. I wait 2-3 minutes each time and in some cases 5 minutes. The light never goes off which it's suppose to do at least from what this guide that ASUS posted via here. I've tried the following for both BIOS versions I'm trying to revert to: Formatted USB to FAT16/FAT32 Used disk management on Windows and diskpart to clean and check for all partitions (none exist) and create a clean partition for FAT16/32 No other files but M11H.CAP Used BIOSRenamer and tried running as admin Used the USB BIOS Flashback port Cleared all settings to default Tried 3x USBs (USB 3.x, USB 2.0) Cleared CMOS Unplugged PSU power cable Unplugged all other USB storage devices Used EZ Flash Utility in the BIOS and get the message "Selected file not a proper BIOS!" for both BIOS versions as the original .CAP file downloaded from the driver/oem section as per my motherboard model. I've tried everything I can think of. The main reason I'm trying to downgrade is because the slow POST/BIOS boot times I get and BIOS freezes that sporadically happen. This was the error message I got "GPT header corruption". Full picture of the error code is here. I've also saw a thread of others having the same problem here too. The only solution I found to boot is by setting my boot options to Auto Recovery. I still have problems with my BIOS randomly freezing at boot still but it has helped with being able to boot into my OS now.

I'm planning to update my bios some point today, I've read the manual and downloaded the latest bios (non-beta) for my Asus Z97 Ranger, I'm going to be using the EZ Update 2 Bios Utility I was wondering if it is necessary to rename the file, the manual says to change the file name to "M7R.cap" is the file rename exclusive for BIOS flashback program to be identified? (The button on the back of the Mobo) or can I use EZ flash 2 with the original file name "MAXIMUS-VII-RANGER-ASUS-3003.CAP"

Hello there For some time now I've been having problems getting my pc to boot, as in the mouse/keyboard/screen would not light up, while the pc started running- fans, lights, anything within the case. In last month bigger problems occurred, when I had to use memOK button on the mobo a few times and with to me unknown combination, powered on and booted after many attempts. I've already ruled out the gpu, as I tried 2- gtx770 and gtx1070, also tested with single ram slots 2x8 and 2x4 GB. psu probably isn't faulty either... mobos direct bios key also doesn't help, except those times when I tried for a few hours to get it to boot. Perhaps mentioning the H60 closed water pump makes noises when case is tilted could bring some insight, or not At the time of writing, I've tried doing bios flashback via usb, the light blinks and then stays solid. My system specs are as following: mb: M5A97 R2.0 EVO cpu: FX8320 (usually had it barely OCd @4Ghz) cooled by H60 closed liquid cooling gpu: gtx770/1070(only one at a time ofc) ram: dual channel 4(1333mhz)/8(1600mhz)/4/8 750W power supply ssd:samsung 850 evo 500GB HDD 2TB.. In case there's no help, would you recommend me replacing mobo, cpu, both, or sell system parts and get a new rig altogether? Any help is much appreciated!

Hello to the forum. After flashing the latest beta BIOS (bravo me!) 4801 for my p9x79 pro using the bios EZ utilty, the first boot showed bios recovery message with directions on how to proceed using the flashback bios feature (and was the last thing I ever saw from my computer) Obviously the flashing failed, so I followed the instructions to use Flashback from the manual: 1. Formating usb to fat32 2. Renaming file to P9X79PRO.CAP 3. Copying file to root folder 4. Putting the drive to the specific flashback usb port 5. Pressing the flashback button for 3 seconds. EVERY time I tried, the same behavior. The system seems to be reading(?) the bios (Both flashback light and the USB drive light are flashing) for around 30-40 seconds, then the flashback light stays on and the USB drive is off (disconnected?) According to every guide and video I saw, the flashback light is supposed to turn off after a successful flashing. Trying to boot the error code is "00" meaning the motherboard doesn't post at all. Tried booting with CPU installed also and it gets hot (weird/hopeful?) What I tried: Disconnecting EVERYTHING (including CPU, fans, RAM etc.) only power to motherboard connected (Flashback is supposed to work on bare mobo also) TPU, EPU Switches on and off 3 different flash drives Fat32 and FAT (i dont think its the drive problem anyway since it seems to read it fine) 5 different versions of bios from asus, plus 1 modded for NVME I found online (YOLO) Exact same result every time. It seems to read the file for 30-40 seconds, then solid light, boot code 00. Seems my only option now is to buy and resolder a BIOS chip, but maybe I am not seing something or doing something wrong, so please help me guys.

Hi there. so yesterday i came home from work to find my pc not outputting any signal but looking like its working fine. i even got to the login screen, but went to the toilet and when i camd back pc was still running but no signal. after looking up in the manual turns out its late cpu initialisation. Solution, bios flashback. I'm no pro i just googled the error code from zhe led (msi z170 gaming m7). while i was doing the flashback everything went fine, the flashback led blinked like its supposed to. But after a while i notices its not blinking anymore, its shining all the time. its supposed to turn off when the flashback is done but the manual says nothing about shining all the time. I didnt turn the pc of or change anything because im afraid that will cause even more issues. does anyone know what is happening? thanks

I've contacted ASUS Customer Support already, I'm waiting for their response and will post that here too. I had this custom built PC up and running for at least 3 weeks already and everything was working fine. I then noticed that there was a new BIOS version 1101 which would "Improve system stability" and "Support TPM function". My BIOS version was 0234, the one that the Motherboard shipped with. I decided to update the BIOS to 1101 by using the USB BIOS Flashback feature, by using the following procedure: Download the driver from the ASUS Support Page for my Motherboard (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH-Z170-MARK-1/HelpDesk_Download/) Extract the CAP file from the downloaded ZIP file. Renamed the SABERTOOTH-Z170-MARK-1-ASUS-1101.CAP file to Z170ST1.CAP Format a FAT32 USB pen drive new and copy the new Z170ST1.CAP to the root of the pen drive Shutdown the computer, but leave the PSU on Stick the pen drive to the USB BIOS Flashback port Hold the USB BIOS Flashback button for 3 seconds Watch as it starts blinking Wait for it to stop blinking (took some minutes) Take the pen drive out Power on the computer The result was that the PC wouldn't make it to POST anymore and that the CPU LED was now on. I can't get the PC to startup anymore. I've tried clearing the CMOS by using a jumper for 10 seconds in the CLRTC connector when the PC was off and without the power cord. I've also trying flashing all the available BIOS (0234, 0901 and 1101 again). I've tried powering the PC with the Motherboard DVD on the disc drive as well. Removing the GPUs and RAM also didn't help. Nothing of that worked. The PC used to work just fine before, with all the same components, but after a BIOS update attempt via Flashback, it won't work anymore. Any clue on how can I fix this? The PC: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit ASUS Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 Intel Skylake 6700K Corsair H100i Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR4 3000MHz 4x4 2x EVGA 980Ti SC+ ACX 2.0 Corsair AX1200i Corsair Force GT 120GB (for Windows) Crucial MX100 256GB (for Games) 3x WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB (in RAID 5, for Media)

Alright, here's the rundown: I bought my motherboard (an Asus MAXIMUS Formula VI) from Amazon quite awhile ago, and have only recently started putting my rig together. However, I have learned that the current BIOS on the motherboard doesn't support the i7-4790K due to it being a Z87 board. To rectify this, I decided to use Asus' lovely Flashback feature, where you only need a power supply, your motherboard, and a usb stick with the correctly named BIOS file on it to update the BIOS, thus allowing me to avoid purchasing an i7-4770K just to update the thing. So I followed the instructions both online and in the manual on how to do it to the point: -I used a USB formatted to FAT32 -I kept the BIOS file as the root directory -I renamed the file to M6F.CAP as indicated by the manual, and not R4F.CAP needed by the Formula IV. -I used the correct USB port as indicated in the manual -Kept the system powered down However, after many attempts the best I could get was the light going out for as long as I held it, then returning to a stable glow after I released, in contrast to the pulsating light I was supposed to achieve. Alright, so it didn't work. I then downloaded their own "Renaming Utility," and ran it inside the USB drive as it had told me to. Plugged it back in as before, ran it, but still nothing. I'm stumped at this point, I've spent close to an hour researching this to no avail, and Asus' motherboard customer support is extremely bare. You guys got any ideas?

solved Bizarre posting issues after swapping out CPU cooler
Yurnchoc posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hi all, I was working on a friends' build and all I've really tried to do is swap out the cooler and tighten up his cable management but for some reason the build isn't posting anymore. Specs are as follows: R5 3600X, AsRock RX5700 Challenger, MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, XPG SSD, 16GB GSkill ripjaws V DDR4, Rosewill Photon 750, Vetroo V5 When I first tried to boot the device after swapping the stock cooler out for the Vetroo and redoing cable management, I attempted to POST and the behavior was strange: I initially got a red CPU LED that would change the motherboard RGB LEDs from white to red and then it would skip DRAM and VGA and hover red over the boot LED. I then checked the pins and reseated the CPU and cooler before trying again. Same issue. So I cleared CMOS following the manual instructions using a screwdriver, same issue. So then I attempted to do a bios flashback, and am not getting super bizarre behavior. Contrary to what's shown in MSI's official tutorial, it does not look like there is some flashing bios flashback light to indicate the process is working on the board. So I plugged the USB drive in and clicked the button and the computer turned on (every fan is up and spinning except GPU) and now is just hovering over a red CPU EZdebug LED (the motherboard lights are still white this time). This has been stuck like this for well over 30 minutes which leads me to believe the bios failed to flash. I cannot power off the PC using the power button and I'm worried about powering off using the PSU switch. I'm really not sure what the hell is going on since I've flashed multiple MSI mobos with no problems and I didn't change any piece of hardware out except for the cooler
