I know they have this "proprietary" External GPU connector but it looks a lot like a standard Oculink Connector (the not usb-c part). So i was wondering, if you can just use standard Oculink cables for external GPU support (just using the not usb-c part). Like how it's done with GPD Win Max 2 Or GPD Win Max with the modded Oculink Connector (m.2 to Oculink adapter). I would rather do that then buy thier external GPUs. Info dump: Oculink is an established standard in servers to bring PCI-e lanes via Cable to, for example, Storage backplanes. So basically it's PCI-e 4 via Cable so no need to go thou expensive USB or thunderbolt controllers for external GPU support since it's just PCI-e (ex:Gen 4 4x). So i was just wondering if any1 has experience from using that "proprietary" connector in a different product with Oculink.

I was watching Linus' video from 2019 "No, THIS is the CLEANEST Setup." and decided that something similar would be my next setup project. However, I cannot seem to find the Akitio Node Pro for sale anywhere. Is there another product that has similar capabilities that's at a friendly price? P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong category to post this in.

I've been thinking about creating my own egpu enclosure to get some more performance out of my laptop and the only pci-e to TB3 I can find is this super expensive adtlink adapter (about 150). I was wondering if anyones gone through this and could reccoment a cheaper alternative/give advise on the ease of use of the bracket. I also would appreciate if anyone knows of a m.t to tb3 adapter i can use to maybe get an m.2 board and attach the adapter. Many thanks. [11:48 PM]

Hi LTT community, Scroll down to the part in bold if you dont care about my life and just wanna answer my question. I am a Student with a decent payed side-job, looking for a new setup. Current setups: (i5 6600K 4.6GHz; GTX1060 6GB; 16GB Ram; 500GB SSD 740evo; 750GB salvaged HDD from some laptop) (Acer V5 i5 3330U; GT 720 2GB; 8GB Ram) Yes current setup is not bad. However, I am a student and need therefore a light portable laptop that has great battery life and does not look gamerish. Then I need a computer where i can game and stay in touch with long distance friends. My struggle is that i wanna have one system. Therefore I am lokking for a nice lightweight laptop eg. MSI 15 Prestige. Where i can game when I am traveling abroad and when back home plug into a RTX2070 for example. My issue so far is that with the current E-GPU setup over TB3 the 4x lanes (3,938GB/s) and a normal Graphics card being around (6.4 GB/s) I wont bother considering this setup. However, now comes the question: With the new Intel mobile CPUs whenever they release them, with the PCI-e 4.0 the speed of 4x lanes will be (7,877GB/s) hence no bottleneck in theory. Do you think that if such laptop is bought the current lets say Razer Core X chroma will support over TB3 the new PCI-e 4.0? I mean TB3 has 40GB/s in theory right? Thank you for your time!!!

Hello, I'm new here, been a fan of Linus for a while. I currently own a 2016 13" MacBook Pro with a touchbar. I use that mostly for video editing and browsing. I've been looking for something to game on at 4K in September, I'm not really fussed about having all the settings at Max. I currently have an Xbox One and I was planning on buying the upcoming Xbox One X but most of my friends were telling me that would have been a stupid idea and I should build a PC instead because upgradability and customisability. I crunched up the numbers and this was what I was comfortable with to start with A GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 - £250 AM4 Micro ATX - £80 8GB DDR4 RAM - £70 1TB HDD 6Gb/s - £40 Midtower - £32 Cheap Heatsink - £20 Power supply (don't know what wattage yet)- £45 + other costs £750 (967$) all of that not including a monitor. (I have a 4K 50 inch TV though) When those numbers came up I was sort of annoyed because everyone says that consoles are horrible but at the end of the day they are cheaper. I could spend £450 on an Xbox One X or get the equivalent of that or better as I indicated above (other than the ram) in a much higher price. That was till I realised I have 4x thunder port 3 ports on my MAC. The upcoming high Sierra update will support an RX 580 E-GPU and before people shout you can't game on a Mac, well there's bootcamp which I use occasionally. The reason why I bought a Mac is because the equipment I use at university are running OS X and because I video edit I didn't want to format my external storage into exFAT, my teacher specifically said it's a no no. Hence I didn't spend my hard cash on a killer PC. So why not take advantage of what I have, my Mac with bootcamp if I feel like gaming. If I get an RX 580 at 8GB and an e-gpu dock, I can satisfy all my gaming needs and I could plug all of that to my 4K TV and game on bootcamp. While I'm satisfying my gaming needs I could start slowly buying parts and then eventually I'll have what I need. So E-GPU or lots and lots of money on a gaming PC console killer?

HI all. I recently posted a topic linked here: Unfortunately I got no replies and I think this is down to the time it was posted and how fast it was moved through the feed. If anybody has any suggestions to what is previously said feel free, but i have an update on what I need. At the end of the last post i said i needed a thunderbolt item, and I am yet to find anything to fit what I need. I have an alternative in a powered USB 3.1 hub, any suggestions welcome as long as it has more then 3 ports. Does anybody have any advice on a choice of headset. So far I like Astro A50 wireless, SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless, and ATH-M50X Wireless with a ModMic Wireless. For any furniture buffs out there I need a chair big enough for myself to fit in and rest my head against the back, in terms of height, I am 6'1". So, i wanted to add some e-gpu on my laptop, i got MSI GE62 6QC Apache, and the motherboard is MS-16J5, so my questions are, Does it have any mPCIe port? how many? and how to make sure if the port is mPCIe or not? Thank You

So, i have a 2014 MSI GE62 2QD Apache notebook, and i need a more powerfull GPU, so i decided to use mPCIe e-gpu, but i have a few questions first. so, can i connect a GTX 1060 3GB to the GDC EXP Beast , and which gtx 1060 gpu is better, this one: Colorful GeForce iGameGTX1060 U-TOP-3G (https://en.colorful.cn/contents/108/147.html), or this one: GALAX GeForce® GTX 1060 OC 3GB (http://www.galax.com/en/graphics-card/10-series/galax-geforce-gtx-1060-oc-3gb.html), can i connect those types of GTX 1060 to the e-gpu, and the last questions, what is the difference between GDC EXP Beast v8.0 and GDC EXP Beast v8.4d? I'm looking at buying a GTX 1080 ti soon. My problem is that I want to put it in a Alienare graphics amp, and I've seen some very mixed numbers on performance with high end cards. And I'm not sure if the mixed performance I've seen is because of the processor in the laptop as a bottle neck, or if the x4 slot is a major bottle neck. I've seen numbers on a GTX 980 and the performance is almost identical. But the video from LMG shows benchmark numbers that are almost half of what that card gets in a desktop. So my question is weather anyone has numbers on this card in a AGA connected to a intel 6700hq? Any other info on this topic is welcome.

So I'm going to ask this again and here are some of the things I don't want as answers: That's to much GPU, Have you seen a GPU price lately, and why the fudge would you buy a laptop. These are all of the useless responses I have gotten in the past. The answer to these questions are as follows: I plan on doing triple 1080p and possibly 4k in the near future. I don't plan on spending $1200 on a 1080 ti, as I'm pretty sure I can get one for MSRP. I need the laptop for work. Now for the actual question. Will a Alienware graphics amp plugged into a laptop with a intel 6700hq bottleneck a GTX 1080 ti? And if so by how much?

I just recently bought a xps 13 (early 2016) with the QHD+ display, and i want to play some good looking games, without being at my desktop, i have been looking into buying a extrenal gpu dock for it so i can play games at my moms and dads house, i haven't been able to find a cheap dock (i couldn't care less about how it looks) i just need something around $100 with a thunderbolt 3 usb-c interface, not the mini pcie interface. could anyone give me some suggestions on what i should get, or if this is even a possibility?

Considering all this external GPUs are some of the next big things in the future for laptops (and eventually might become a rage who knows.), I began to ponder what to do if I were to make Improvements to the current stuff like the Razer Core for e.g. (Only Example I know of.....) regardless if the technology is available or not. Here are some of my suggestions for a more "Deluxe" version/versions: Deluxe (Modest) -Room for AIO watercooled GPUs like the AMD R9 Fury X and the EVGA Hydro GTX 980 Ti - 2 Thunderbolt ports so that the 2 computers that have Thunderbolt can utilize the same GPU simultaneously. Even when Gaming. (To give the GPU some space, The Resolution will have to be dropped to 1080p or 900p (Still better than 720p) or it might go tripping balls) (Yes, This does negate what I just wrote earlier but whatever.) Expected Price: $550 U.S Super Deluxe (Silly) -External GPU 2-way SLI/CrossFire X and so you'll clearly need two Thunderbolt 3 Cables to be plugged in your machine. Otherwise it can be used like the normal Razer core without SLI/CFX and each PC gets their own E-GPU while the box gets hidden easily in a place with good airflow. -You Can attach a 240mm AIO to the GPU (Like by using those special GPU mounting brackets for e.g. NZXT Kraken G10) for better performance and overclocking. (1 GPU only inside the Enclosure) Price: $650 (This does have SLI/CFX Support. Even then you can always build your own) UBER (Seriously stupid) - Just Enough room for a Pair of Custom Watercooled GPUs -A 3.5 inch Internal drive slot that can also accomodate two 2.5 inch drives and an M.2 NVME SSD (RAID Ready) - A pair of 10 Gig Ethernet Jacks -You'll need a machine with 4 thunderbolt ports like the Mac Pro. (It actually has 6 but you get the Idea) Price: $1000 What do you guys think and what would you do?
