Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1440p high-fidelity gaming, 3D modeling, development environment Other details: Existing 'Rig': i7-4790k, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3, EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW, Corsair RM850x power supply I've been using this computer solid for the last 7+ years, and it's been a faithful companion. It's tired and starting to really hiccup and stutter with games with large worlds, or higher base resolution textures. I'm working with around $1000USD, and my idea is to try to save a bit in the GPU space by trying my hand at the used market for a 3080ti. I'll be working with 3D modeling, some mild simulations, and games as the majority of the use. Edit: My gaming target is 1440p 240hz and high/max settings. What's the community sentiment on Intel vs AMD, considering my use cases? I'll be re-using my existing storage media, it's plenty adequate for me so far. So I'd like to ask for some opinions on what good combinations exist, within this sort of price bracket? Are there any standout features of motherboard chipsets I should be aware of for the current generation of CPUs? Things like Wifi or RGB aren't terribly important. My current PC is an ATX in an EATX case, and I'd love some recommendations for some medium-sized tower cases that could maybe help reclaim some space from the top of my desk (I've never been one to put it on the floor; I enjoy a nice view window to see the insides!) Another thing, I know the capacity of my PSU seems to be adequate, but will I have any issues by reusing it? It's a replacement for the original corsair 750w, I would ballpark it to be 4-5 years old at this point. I'm definitely happy to help clarify any questions if it helps you narrow down to a particular recommendation. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I look forward to a discussion!

I’ve been trying to choose an Ultrawide to buy. I’m looking at getting a 49” one, and the one that seems to have all the bells and whistles I want is the AOC Agon AG493UCX2 The bells and whistles being (these are non-negotiable): Similar display rate and pixel density as my current dual monitors (currently two Gigabyte M29Q) Display port and HDMI. As well as USB C with power and data transfer so I can charge my work laptop with the same cable I’m using to display it when I WFH PBP (PIP would be a plus) so I can have my PS5 on one side and be able to browse the internet on the other I was looking at the Samsung G9 Odyssey as I can get it nearly half off at the moment, but I don’t think it has what I want

So I have an ASUS VivoBook Laptop that came with 8GB of DDR4-3200mhz RAM (4GB Soldered+4GB Expandable) and I am now looking to upgrade it due to 8GB not being enough any more for the tasks I throw at it. The question I had in mind is this can theoretically support more than the 12GB officially recommended on the ASUS' website as the CPU supports upto a maximum of 64GB, and the motherboard too probably supports more than 12GB which I would like to confirm as I remember seeing another topic being raised on the forums similar to mine where the OP used sysfs to extract the SMBIOS information which in turn revealed his board supported a maximum of 32GB in a similar 14inch ASUS laptop. Help will be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.

I went to Nvidia about an issue with ULMB not showing up. And got this link in response: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5518/kw/ULMB "For simplicity and reliability NVIDIA has removed the ULMB setting from the Monitor Technology section of the NVIDIA control panel" so now due to "Simplicity" whenever i play a game I want to use ULMB over gsync, i need to: Open nvidia control panel turn off gsync set my monitor to 144hz go into my monitor OSD enable ULMB then finally play the game. Then when I'm done, reverse all of those steps. It's incredibly sad, to have this just cut, what's everyone's thoughts?

Ive been diving into more of the detailed RAM timings and learning more about them and ive have a query, generally id say Gskill trident is regarded as one of the better options for RAM and while i stand by that, by comparison with other higher end RAM manufacturers, they seem to be lacking here and there, corsairs Vengenace 6000CL30 Ram has tighter timings (30-36-36-76 vs 30-38-38-96) and, on top of that, doesnt have the issue with tridents PMIC lacking a thermal pad as far as im aware, ive found that where i live they are the same price, both contain RGB if desired and run both XMP and EXPO depending on what you need. Why then, opt of trident RAM over other manufacturers of the same calibre?

I am a long time viewer, first time poster. Following on the growing battle between YouTube and ad blockers, which even made it to the WAN show, it appears they may have made their next move. Starting today, the entire YT site became completely broken when the Brave Shield (ad blocker). The home page does not load at all until I open the menu and click home. Meanwhile, opening a video in a new tab (or reopening/refreshing) causes the video to load off center and no comments or other artifacts to load. The video still plays, but full screen is completely broken. Furthermore, going to the home page, or back to a functional page from this broken page will result in the video overlay permanently pinned on the page until the page is refreshed or another site visited. I have not updated Brave for probably a couple of months at least, meaning it is clearly time to update and hope that resolves it, but having me change nothing on my end and this to suddenly happen means YT must have changed something on their end, and it is clearly targeting ad blockers. I will attach the screenshots of how it has broken with the brave ad blocker running (and one with it turned off). It could just be an unfortunate coincidence between my current version of Brave and some change on their back end that wasn't intended to have this effect, but that is just hopeful supposition. Has anyone else experienced this, and what are your thoughts on this movement?

The new 27" 1440p Alienware QD-OLED specs say that it does 360hz over DP1.4 Natively. But according to pretty much everything I have found, not much more than 280hz could be done natively even with unbelievably tight timings (effectively 0). The math seems to show it would need 31.85Gbps data rate, but 1.4 allegedly only supports 25.92Gbps data rate. Can this be overclocked? is there something else I am missing? Product listing: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/alienware-27-360hz-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw2725df/apd/210-bljd/monitors-monitor-accessories Calculations: https://linustechtips.com/topic/729232-guide-to-display-cables-adapters-v2/?section=calc&H=2560&V=1440&F=360&timing=none&calculations=show&formulas=show Just trying to understand if I am missing something, or if they have made a mistake on the spec sheet and it uses DSC. For context, the 32" 4k model explicitly mentions DSC. Thanks to anyone knowledgeable who can help explain!

I'm not sure if this post should be here, or what to title it so sorry if this is kinda weird. I just thought of this idea while watching last night's WAN show and figured I might as well put it out there for people to to discuss and maybe Linus to consider. Regardless, during last night's WAN show Linus was talking about his concerns with his children not understanding what it's like not being "rich" and that they don't value money, and wanting to do something about it. Well, while Linus and Luke talking about what their childhoods were like being relatively poor, and how they had allowances and had to save up for things, I realize that Linus kind of does something similar with his kids. He's mentioned before how they have to "pay" for like playing games on the computer and other stuff, it's just that he has them "pay" with time doing other stuff that he wants them to do. So I had the idea that instead he could actually give them money, probably some kind of fake money, for doing this stuff he wants them to do, and then have them actually pay with that money to do things like, playing games on the computer, use the 3D printer, or whatever else. This fake money could then be used as a stand in for real currency so they can "purchase" things with it by telling Linus what they want and handing over the appropriate amount. I have no clue if this is a good idea but I think it's at least interesting to think about.

Because 2023 is coming to an end and 11.11 sale is almost near, I wanted to improve my set up at home (work and gaming). Then I came across this brand and they meet my target budget. KOORUI monitor: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0wEp https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.RbVEc KOORUI monitor arm: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0wCP KOORUI laptop holder: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0wzh They're much cheaper compared from the previous option that I'm looking to buy before I came across KOORUI AOC monitor: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0D0n North Bayou monitor arm: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0D14 North Bayou laptop holder: https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.R0DcK The AOC and NB products were my first options but then I saw KOORUI and now I'm undecided now to choose between these two options. Hope to get some help from you guys before the sale comes for me to know if my decision will be good or not.

CPU is a 5600H in a Lenovo ideapad gaming 15ACH-6 For the past couple months I've been having an issue with my CPU randomly dropping to 0.4 GHz, even though its nowhere near overheating. Before the issue it would slow down to .4 GHz at 80 degrees, which is the max temp Lenovo put in place. Then it would drop at 60 degrees, I eventually repasted thinking it would fix but now it drops randomly at 60-65 degrees still. My GPU also doesn't even come close to overheating either so my heat sink is working. Slowed Condition: Working Condition:

I would like to purchase one of the brands because my XPG Core reactor cables are very sturdy and looking kinda ugly because of not-used +2 pin(GPU is 8+6) that's why I would love a better looking case. On amazon, there are some options like EZ-DIY FAB and AsiaHorse and in the local market I can get Phanteks and Thermaltake (TT is a bit expensive). Which one should I go for? Thank you for your time.

The gaming industry is huge and a large number of people here play in one form or another, Is it time for a stream dedicated to the industry? Similar in format to WAN show just exclusively focused on gaming and the hardware there-in. I am pretty sure there is more than enough content to make one without having one aspect dominate the entire show. From developments in the PC industry on new hardware, to hardware updates in the console world on whats happening now and whats coming thats the first hour right there. Then we hit the software side with game release hits and misses, gameplay reviews, game development, throw in an interview or two then a Q&A and you easily have a two hour show. The first hour can be recorded while waiting for Linus to turn up for the WAN show j/k The infrastructure is already in place, i'm just putting it out there and seeing the response.

Hello everyone. Having a trouble finding the best design of the room. I'll post a picture of the options I listed on sketchup, (please don't mind me being an amateur) and really looking for other options. The red square is the door, yellow one is the bookshelf, black one is the TV stand. The current design is number 4 and I'm not very happy about it. Thank you for your time. layout 2.skp

This comment I posted in YouTube for WAN show named, "4K YouTube Is Getting PAYWALLED - WAN Show October 7, 2022". Hope we can have mature and real discussion about being objective on reviews. I for one doesn't believe we can be completely objective. Maybe 80 percent if we have done proper extensive research and test things extensively. But in short of that I believe we cannot foresee all of the effects in a practical scenario. Therefore I believe LTT should at least address the reasoning behind some of the things they recommend or just say in their videos with complementary articles and I believe it will be beneficial for the more enthusiastic audience. Comment as follows;

Hi guys I'm looking to buy a new laptop, I've seen two laptops both with pros and cons HP Omen 16-wd0006ns: CPU: Intel Core i7-13620H 4.9ghz (it has fewer cores) RAM: DDR5-5200 MHz, 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Link: https://amzn.eu/d/eTqkFJd OR HP Victus 16-r0032ns CPU: Intel Core i7-13700H 5.0ghz RAM: DDR5-5200 MHz, 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 8GB Link: https://amzn.eu/d/36sXLO3 I've also came up with a third option: HP Omen 16-b1020ns CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H 4.7Ghz RAM: RAM DDR5-4800 Mhz, 16GB (2 x 8 GB) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB MAX-Q Bônus: The screen is QHD 165hz with 300 nits while the other two have a FHD 144hz 250 nits. Link: https://amzn.eu/d/b9IGac6 Due to specs it should be obvious since they cost about the same but my question is in terms of build quality, I've seen some reviews saying that the omens have a far superior build quality comparing to Victus and that worries me about the laptop longevity, what do you guys think I should buy ?

Hi everyone. I kinda have a question and I'm not sure if I should put my effort on this but here it goes: After a mobo change, my temps went way higher. I know 11th gen is a bit problematic as far as I've read or watched. On the new motherboard, 65w TDP i5-11400f draws 190 watts of power. I kinda want my CPU run cooler at all costs. Honestly, it is 35 degrees on idle and not more than 60 in gaming, though. Need an opinion here. Should I keep it this way or do something? Thank you for your time. 1st setup- i5-11400f, Gigabyte b560m h, Arctic freezer esports 34 duo: Prime95, max settings, 70 degrees. 2nd setup- i5-11400f, MSI MAG b560m Mortar, Arctic freezer esports 34 duo: Prime95, max settings, 100 degrees + Thermal throttling. 3rd setup- i5-11400f, MSI MAG b560m Mortar, Cooler Master ML240L v2(RETURNED): Prime95, max settings, 100 degrees + Thermal throttling. 4th setup- i5-11400f, MSI MAG b560m Mortar, Deepcool LS520: Prime95, max settings, 90 degrees.

Hello everyone. I have MSI b560m Mortar mobo along with i5-11400f. Should I go for 3600mhz CL18 ones or 3200mhz CL16 ones? Can't decide. Will buy Kingston fury beast rgb ones - 2x16 dual kit.

Hello everyone. I have a Lianli 205m mesh snow case along with Deepcool LS520 cooler. I plan to upgrade my RAMs to a better ones both in performance and aesthetics. I have 2x8 (3000mhz) geIL evo spear and they're pretty low profile; however, I would like to buy white rgb RAMs and rgb ones are a little bit thick. The question is; the AIO cooler goes down too much as the case does not have an extra space for AIO. With these low profile rams, there is no interference but I don't have any idea about my choices about the MAX thickness in height. Do you think the SL version of the vengeance will fit, or are there any other options for me? I'll buy the products in Türkiye, and around 3.000 TRY is kinda my limit. Thanks in advance.

Hello LTT community. I currently own a goxlr mini, shure sm7B mic and a arctic nova pro SteelSeries headset. I feel like I’m having a harder time than ever hearing footsteps in CS. I honestly don’t want to equalize a bunch but just want a nice out of the box experience. I’ve only owned gaming headsets in my 12 years of experience.. HyperX cloud 2 (were really nice) G Pro X (also a nice pair, shitty software tho) and now the SteelSeries. Now I’ve been looking a the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X which everyone seems to be absolutely praising. Now my questions are as so: 1. Is the DT Pro X good for gaming? I only play tac shooters where footsteps and be able to pin point positions are key. A little bass would be nice. (I liked the hyperx cloud 2 bass but it was a little over the top at the same time) 2. Will my goxlr mini be able to drive the headset with optimism sound quality? 3. The headset is open back, are there a chance for the sound to bleed into my shure mic or would that require extreme high volume in the headset for that to happen? Thank you for reading

After upgrading my GPU I've realised that my current CPU and ram is massively bottlenecking it so I'm looking at upgrading. looking at psu options ive noticed that the options for them in the uk have massively decreased and most have a much higher cost. I currently have a corsair cx550f which is a good psu, just not enough watts if i want to upgrade; does anybody know why this psu line has been discontinued.

I'm looking at getting am inexpensive laptop just to do school work on. Which would be better getting a used laptop for $500 but is 3-4 years old that is probably more powerful or should I get a brand new model that isn't as powerful?

Laptop driver support is often not as up to date as that you can get from the hardware manufacturer. I've always kinda known this and ignored it to a degree, but today while working on a family laptop Intel driver assistant made me explicitly ignore this issue. I can no longer see the text as I clicked through it, but it said something like "drivers from your device manufacturer may be tailored to your specific device. If they have up to date drivers you should get it from them. Ignore anyway and download the update." What is the deal here? Three first hand experiences-- 1. elaborating the above. My family wanted to use handbrake to transcode a video and it was crashing very early in the process. looking at the ffmpeg log it seemed to be an intel qsv driver issue. I checked for driver updates from Asus and they did not even have a graphics driver listed. So I went to Intel and the story above (clicked through warning and installed newest driver from Intel). The up to date Iris Xe drivers were installed and handbrake worked. 2. Due to laziness I haven't contacted Lenovo support, but my laptop would frequently hard crash unless I used windows power management to set the power to 99%. Only changing it to 100% when needed. Until I ran into a driver issue and directly installed AMD Adrenalin + drivers. Windows still blocks full use of that, but the AMD cpu/igpu drivers virtually removed the problem to where I no longer need use windows power control. 3. Same Lenovo laptop-after I first purchased it had a bunch of problems that needed to be RMA'd and part of the Lenovo customer support was to have me downgrade to their year old nvidia drivers. So, I did a few searches in this forum for discussions on laptop vs manufacturer drivers, but could not find any. Yet if this is a big enough or common enough issue it could even (and happily be) a video idea. What has been people's experience? What is the best practice? What do repair centers do?
