  1. Efi USB Device boot failed

Hi there I have a Dell Inspiron 3531 and I installed Ubuntu 17.10 on it. I dont like it so I am trying to install my Windows 8.1 again from a USB stick. Everytime it tried to boot from the USB stick it says EFI USB Device boot failed. How do you fix this!!?? Thanks Dylan ;-)
  2. Really starting to bug me

Hi all. I have a Dell XPS 15 9530 and this problem has been bugging me so im wondering do you know of a driver maybe I might be missing? BAsically in any USB device I plug in may it be storage or a midi keyboard it will keep disconnecting and I have to plug it out and plug it back in. Anyone know anything that could be causing this? They would be the only things plugged into the laptop Via USB as well so not a power issue.
  3. Hey guys So im currently rocking an i5 4570 in my dell optiplex I've converted into a gaming pc. (Added in a 500w psu and an rx 470). So i'm looking to upgrade to a another haswell cpu that is an i7. I was gonna buy the 4790 since I can't overclock anyway. But then, I realized that the base clock on the 4790k is way higher for about the same price (3.6 vs 4 ghz). So would I have any compatibility issues?
  4. So i have a dell 5675, Linus made a video about one and i loved it so i got one. It has a ryzen 5 1400, gtx 1060 6gb, 8gb ddr4 ram. On Dell's website for the dell 5675 it says I can add liquid cooling (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-desktop-computers/inspiron-gaming-desktop/spd/inspiron-5675-gaming-desktop) but the space is very small and idk if any liquid coolers can fit in the PC. So can you guys help me find a liquid cooler or how it would fit in the case cause I really wanna overclock my ryzen 5. PS here is the video about it.
  5. Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but hoping someone will be able to help me out. I've had my XPS 15 (9560) for a few months now, the screen is absolutely gorgeous and the battery life among other things is great. HOWEVER, this system has been giving stuttering and lag issues since the day I bought it. Just a few examples are... lag typing into Google, loading webpages (not internet related lag) clicking, switching tabs, general UX (This was largely fixed by enabling hardware acceleration, but non-internet lag is still noticeable when switching to it from another window and when typing at times such as just having opened a new tab and trying to type) Playing a game on moderate to extremely low settings such as BeamNG, Rainbow Six | Siege, frames will drop significantly. BeamNG will game around 30-60FPS and then for no reason whatsoever, will drop to 10FPS for at least half an hour. Rainbow Six | Siege will fluctuate around 28~40FPS then drop to 5~15FPS if I get any sort of on-screen notification until it goes away, or randomly drop down to 15FPS for no reason. PUBG is 25FPS dropping to 15FPS at times even on the absolute lowest settings. Rainbow Six at the lowest settings should only require 1GB of GPU.... how on earth is this thing so damn slow when I have 4GB. Adobe Lightroom CC....my gosh.... every single action is laboured. Moving the mouse and waiting for changes to take effect, even just clicking the next photo will take an age for it to respond. Word Documents with anything longer than around 10 pages with even compressed images will lag while typing, moving the mouse and just generally feel like it's finding things exceptionally difficult to do. These are just a few examples, basically any operation short of just opening folders (e.g. using any program) can be exceptionally slow at times and laggy. I have tried all sorts of fixes for these programs individually and nothing seems to have helped very much. Even gaming at the lowest possible settings on both these games does nothing for performance improvements and I cannot describe how infuriating it is to be trying to complete a project in Word or Lightroom and have this ridiculous level of lag just because I inserted a compressed photo or clicked on the next photo in line I need to edit. The computer cost a significant amount of money and is pretty well spec'd out with all the latest updates of everything installed. i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake 16GB RAM NVidia GTX-1050 4GB GDDR5 I understand it may struggle to game these reasonably intensive games at high settings, but just day to day things??? Surely there is something not right with the settings. I've heard that Dell disables SpeedShift on the 9560 laptops, is this something that could be causing this stuttering and slow performance? Would enabling it with ThrottleStop be a safe option? It is absolutely infuriating, I had smoother performance on my old HP Pavilion DV5 than on this thing...editing in Lightroom is actually slower on this supposedly high performance laptop than it was on that 2008 model HP.... Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks guys.
  6. Undervolting 960m?

I was wondering if anyone on here has been able to undervolt a 960m dGPU? I'm currently using a Dell XPS 15 9550, and I was able to undervolt both the CPU and the iGPU but I'm not able to undervolt the dGPU (960m). I downloaded MSI afterburner and I unlocked the voltage on there, but I can't open the voltage settings. Does anybody know why? I would love to get better temps on my dGPU because in some games I thermal throttle and it's a pain.
  7. Hello, I am planning to buy the dell PowerEdge r710 for $200. I am new into enterprise and server grade hardware and am looking for some advice. Thank you!
  8. Some final advice

Hi everyone. This is my third and probably final post about monitor advice. In my first and second posts, I narrowed it down to this. I've heard that this Dell U2417H is a really good all-rounder, and it's a PLS panel, which I hear is better than IPS and TN. Are there any other things I should consider before I buy? Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone, I recently won a dell precision 690 w/ 2 intel xeon 5160s and nvidea gforce 210 in it, now i wanna upgrade the gpu but i can't find which pci-e version the motherboard has, has it pci-e 1.0, 1.1, 2.0? thanks in advance. Greetings: JurgenMK
  10. A few day ago I picked up and old Dell Precision 670 workstation at a scrapyard. It has 2 dual core Xeon 7030s (PPGA604) so I was hoping to use it as a cheap nas/gaming rig. It boots fine which is a miracle but the the processors are really slow and run hot. I’ve been looking on eBay for better CPUs with the same socket and have found a couple of quad core options for about 10-30 USD. Will an upgrading to something like a Xeon X7350 2.93GHz Quad-Core be a worthwhile investment or just a waste of money. I have 16 gb of ECC ram at 400mhz and some cheap old PCIe GPU that I plan on upgrading to something like a 1050ti. Thx
  11. Hey guys, i need your help to choose from one of these: DELL Inspiron 7567 DELL Inspiron 7577 0067 DELL Inspiron 7577 0074 i5 7300 or i7700? long 6-8h battery life or just 4? newer version with usb 3.1 or old one with 3.0? with or without subwoofer? Appreciating any kind of help!
  12. So far I have been looking into purchasing the Inspiron 13 7000 (7370) i7-8550U varient: http://www.dell.com/au/business/p/inspiron-13-7370-laptop/pd?oc=a520972au&model_id=inspiron-13-7370-laptop I will probably be using this mostly for word processing and general 3D model viewing for 3D printing. I will use the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite on this machine as well but do not expect exceptional performance. Are there any better options with 16GB of RAM? My ideal laptop would be an i5-8250U with 16GB of RAM and 256-512GB SSD (NVME) storage. What are your thoughts on this laptop overall? Design, features, price? Thanks in advance!
  13. I have the Inspiron 5675 with the R5 1400 and RX580 8GB. I am a noob at overclocking and because it's an OEM system, the BIOS is locked down tight. My only option for overlocking is (unfortunately) Ryzen Master. I wanted to do a quick, no frills OC. I can get a stable OC at 3.7 without needing to mess with voltage. No issues. No overheating. I know I can go further but as I stated, I just wanted something quick and simple. However despite saving and applying it, no matter what it defaults back to base after a reboot. I have disabled Fast Boot, updated BIOS, updated chipset drivers, and reinstalled RM. Nothing. It only works when applied after a power cycle. Any tips or suggestions? I've read multiple posts about the success with the Dell stock MOBO and Ryzen Master on the 1700X but nothing on the 1400 besides a couple YouTube videos. One thing I've noticed is that it never prompts me to restart after applying a change. I find that odd.
  14. So Currently the computer I use for internet use is a dell 8300 I got off craigs list for 100$ a few weeks ago , And it is quite slow . What are some upgrades I could make to improve it's preformance .
  15. Here's a review from a perspective that is seemingly rare. I used windows all my life, then I was given the chance to go to Mac for well under MSRP. Now after a year of using a 2015 macbook pro 13, and finally giving up because i couldn't run both macos and windows 10 on a 120gb hard drive. I finally decided to go back to windows because i needed it to run programming software for college, and more importantly I wanted to start playing video games properly (going from 60 fps @ 720p to 140fps on maxed out settings makes CSGO feel like a different game). Here's a rundown of the specs: GTX 1060 MAX Q 6gb 8gb DDR4 RAM i5 7300 HQ 1080p IPS 15.6 display NVME 256gb ssd 57wh Battery with quick charge Build Quality: Well, coming from a Macbook pro, this thing isn't too bad. It has the usual traits of a well built laptop: no deck flex, sturdy keys, not too much screen flex (but the panel does have a little backlight bleed) and overall feels solid. (Also, their choice in material was a good one. Smooth sturdy plastic instead of rubberized plastic) Aesthetic: Going from a Macbook, which is often praised for their minimal aesthetic to something relatively "gamer aesthetic" was an abrupt change. Thankfully, this laptop isn't too in your face. Red backlighting, with a red border around the trackpad, as well as a red dell logo and red exhaust vents. its pretty unassuming imo. The bezels on this laptop are huge though. if i had to guess it's at least half an inch on all sides with the bottom being the thickest. Ironic considering dell's almost invisible bezels on their XPS line. Performance: I'll admit I'll probably not do this laptop any favors considering this is the field I'm the least experienced in. This is my first gaming laptop, and what a machine it is. The first hour it was out of the box i immediately noticed how much more powerful it is than the Macbook just downloading games. For the most part, I get over 100fps most of the time in the games that i'm playing currently. which is mostly CS:GO, Saints row 3 and Overwatch all on the highest possible settings. The only game that didn't run too well was just cause 3, which is because my laptop was configured with only 8gb of RAM. Keep that in mind if you play really demanding titles. Battery life is typical for a gaming laptop, at around 4 hours and 1.5 hours gaming. Its a huge difference compared to the 7-8 i was getting on Mac, but it doesn't really bother me considering i keep this on the charger most of the time. Temps are good. underload the hottest temp i saw was 68c, not bad for a 1060. Ergonomics: The keyboard is good, great feel, properly spaced out, has a numpad and the texture of the keys is smooth, instead of being textured and cheap feeling. The backlighting is Red, 2 stage and weak. my $25 RGB gaming mouse has far better leds. The trackpad uses windows precision drivers. Accurate, clicky but the surface feels somewhat cheap because of the texture. I bring my mouse with me to class because of this. IO: Comes with 3 usb 3.0 ports ( one is fast charging) 1 usb type c with 4 lane pcie for full bandwidth. 1 hdmi 2.0, power port, kensington lock, RJ45, SD card slot and 3.5 jack. Also comes with a fingerprint sensor, which is great. Almost as accurate as touch ID on my iphone 7+ Audio: 3.5 jack sounds fine, not noticeably worse or better than my MBP , the speakers are loud, forward firing and sound fine. They lack bass though. Things i don't like about this laptop: While there are a lot of ports, i don't really like where they're located. 2 of the usb ports are on the right side, and make it awkward to place your mouse beside because of the cable making extra clutter. The hinge in mounted in the middle. I worry that if i move the lid using the corners of the screen, I'll torque it over time The backlighting is super weak, and its red. The trackpad kinda feels like crap, but it is accurate. The power brick is huge. I emphasize the word brick. it's bigger than the power supply for my 27 inch monitor. For having a max Q gpu, its relatively thick and heavy compared to other max Q laptops My model came with a little bit of coil whine, not too bad though. Overall, I do really like this laptop. Especially for the price I got it for. After my 10% student discount and black friday discount. I bought this for $1,170 CAD before taxes ( or $913 USD). Most 1050 ti laptops are $1200 CAD so this thing was a steal. After i sell my macbook, i will have probably paid next to nothing to switch up. Thanks for reading my first attempt at a review. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
  16. Upgrade help

Hi, I've recently purchased a Dell Optiplex 760 and a Core 2 Quad q6600 (because I'm original) and I was wondering what budget used graphics card would work/be good for the old thing. I'm planning on doing some gaming on it, and once I build my new Ryzen 3 system early next year, using it to run a Minecraft server.
  17. Hi! So I'm starting with a video project for my diploma which would contain C4D, Premiere Pro and CAD renders. I've got an older PC which I game with and can render all of these but then my system is pretty much locked up. I also checked for a new (near) state of the art system, but pricing foiled my plan. The system I've calculated would be around 3000 EUR (I'm from central europe btw). So I thought about an older, used server, dual xeons for cheap where I'd stab if possible like a 980ti or 1050 in it. I found a lead for a DELL PowerEdge R710 which would have 2 x Intel XEON X5675 @ 3.07 GHz 6 Core, 48 Gb RAM ECC 800 MHz, redundant PSU and fans for about 300 Euro. Since I haven't layed hands on a server ever before (closest encounter was to see them through tempred glass ) I'd like to get some input about my idea. In perspective, my current system would render a simple cut 1080p video from a 1080p source in about 35 - 40 minutes. Thats a 22 minute video. Time isn't that critical for me, but It'd definitely help if this system I've found would be as fast if not faster (hope dies last) as my main rig. Another kind of monkey wrench would be that this would - as I would guess from the picture - a 2U blade. I don't have a server rack, so I'd have to run it without if I couldn't stab it into a random pc tower case. I'd appreciate any input or recommodations. My budget would be about 650 - 700 EUR (Server and GPU)
  18. Hello, I recently got a free dell OptiPlex 780 of my dad’s work. It currently runs a core 2 duo E8400, 4 GB of ram, an ATI 3450 GPU and two 320 GB 2,5inch Toshiba laptop hard drives in raid 0. I am planning to use this machine as a triple boot hackintosh, Windows and Linux rig, I will probably not do any gaming on the OptiPlex unless I decide to upgrade the GPU. I will probably upgrade the ram to something like 8 GB or 12 GB or even 16 GB if I can get some for free from my uncle (which seems to be the case). I found a few deals for core 2 quads, as I would like to upgrade the CPU on this machine. Q8200 for 300 NOK (39 USD) Q6600 for 350 NOK (45 USD) Q9500 for 420 NOK (54 USD) The OptiPlex currently has the dell stock aluminium 65watt cooler which stays at about 53-55 celcius at max load. Are these deals any good and will the CPUs even work with my OptiPlex? Will I need to upgrade my cooler to the dell copper cooler or will the aluminum cooler be fine? I live in Norway so I will only buy from sellers in Norway. The OptiPlex has the Q45 chipset. Dells technical guidebook
  19. So I had recently installed a new GPU into my comp, only for the system to crash immediately while the OS loads. However, the system has no issue booting the OS when the add-on GPU is removed. 20. I'm sure this question get's asked a lot so i'll keep this quick. I'm hunting for a laptop before the holiday season with at least a 6700hq and gtx 1050 (as much vram as possible) with an ips display (or aftermarket ips upgrade option) for under $800 (asking for a lot honestly) i'm considering a Dell 7577 but the display is a dealbreaker. any recommendations? https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i5577-5328BLK-PUS-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1511578011&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+1050+laptop (I want to stick to reputable companies, Dell, HP, LG, Asus, etc) (upgrading from a latitude E4310, buisness class laptops are pathetic...)
  21. Dell S2417DG or S2716DGR

Currently my PC is running on a single monitor ASUS VG248QE and I'm looking to buy another display with G-Sync. After some research I figured out that Dell is choice to go with *Due to budget* and I have read a lot of positive reviews about the 24" and 27" monitors. I already ordered the S2417DG monitor and it is already on its way, but I just realized that BestBuy has the S2716DGR for the exact same price, and that made me confused a little bit. I went with the 24 monitor so I can have 2 x 24 monitors next to each other, but this 27" is hard pass, would my setup look weird or will I feel uncomfortable using a 24 next to 27? Does anyone have a similar experience? Thank you in advance
  22. so i just got a dell 7577 and i bought one with just the pcie ssd. I have an external seagate backup plus slim because i used it while i was using bootcamp on my mac. since i have plenty of storage to do most of my tasks, is it possible to turn a external drive into a internal one by just popping off the case? im scared to do it without a little guidance because i don't want to ruin a drive because i couldn't make it work. I have the caddy and cable already in the laptop, just wanna make sure i dont run into anything weird with the hard drive.
  23. Hi guys! I have a (not really) HUGE problem with my Dell 7537... I want to add some sort of SSD WITHOUT removing the hard drive. So I was tinkering around and I found out that my usb board does have probably an msata port but the connector is unsoldered/misssing. (not my post http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19652320) Do any of you know if some units of Dell laptops had these usb board with msata? Would be a huge help!
  24. I live in North Carolina (USA) and I have a Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini-Tower that I have upgraded to what I need for a workstation. The next item on the list is a new power supply but I heard that it can be tricky on a Dell because the cables are not always the same? I want to put one in that will support future upgrades and power more external devices. The next planned upgrade is to add a GPU. 25. Hello guys, I have an XPS 8500 at home, I would like to replace it with new motherboards and CPU. Here's are the specification of my XPS 8500 CPU Intel Core i7 (3rd Gen) 3770 / 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Chipset Intel H77 Express LGA1155 Socket RAM 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz Display Card Zotac GTX 960 4GB GDDR5X Storage Samsung EVO 850 500GB WD Green 3TB 5400 RPM Seagate 2TB 7200RPM Due to i7-3770 is still very good CPU, I want to keep it and use it as a secondary backup computer for rendering videos. Here's my plan of the new build: CPU AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Motherboard Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 ATX AM4 OR ASRock AB350M Pro4 B350, DDR4, AM4 Socket, M.2 Socket, USB3.1 Gen1,1xType-C,M.ATX M/B RAM Crosair - Vengeance LPX 16GB(2x8GB) DDR4-2400 OR Kingston DDR4 2400MHz 8GB (2x8GB) Ram KVR24N17S8/8 / KCP424NS8/8 Display Card Zotac GTX 960 4GB GDDR5X ( From Old PC ) Power Supply EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Storage Samsung EVO 850 500GB ( From Old PC ) WD Green 3TB 5400 RPM ( From Old PC ) I am not a RGB guy so anything the performs well and not too expensive will be fine enough. Please do give some comment about the build! Thank you!
