I recently obtained an Acer N15Q9 Chromebook and started to play around with it. After finding ChromeOS to be a poor experience I decided to go through the whole ordeal to get Linux running on it. I used the tools and guides provided by mrchromebox to flash UEFI firmware to the device and proceeded to install Ubuntu 22.10. Everything works fine except when I try to playback audio. It will work fine for a while but then the audio playback will stop and the computed produces a harsh buzzing sound from the speakers. I believe it to be software related as video sources accompanying the audio, like a YouTube video, will stop playback and appear to buffer as this happens. The PC remains usable but until the audio source is killed the speakers continue to do this. I tried installing Ubuntu 22.04.1 as Ubuntu migrated to PipeWire in 22.10 but the issue is present there as well. Anybody got any ideas as to what could be going on?

I am looking to put my old Chromebook into a PC case once I get a new laptop, and want to strip it of it's case and then put a heat sink on it to cool it more than any other Chromebook. I want to put a hub onto the the power USB c port so that I can power it and use the port for data. But, I don't want to use the external power supply, because I want to connect a hard drive and would need the SATA power to power it, and the stock chargers get supper hot. Any one know of any adapters that would be of use?

I don't know exactly where to post this, so feel free to correct me, after reading the entire plan I plan on taking my Chromebook out of it's case and putting it into a PC case, but will run into a few problems. I have posted elsewhere about one, but the rest will be more challenging to find a spot, and more might be found. I want to be able to run open office and other PC programs, but don't want to buy windows, so maybe Linux, but I have never used Linux, so problem one, how do I instal linux. Problem two, I want to overclock it so it will run faster, but don't know how. Heat won't be a problem, I can put a big heat sink and fans to cool it. I also plan on putting in an hard drive, but will need a SATA to USB C adapter. Any suggestions on a good one would be great. I will be powering the Chromebook and drive off of a PSU which is the problem I have in another post. I plan on using the IO daughter board, but don't anticipate any problems from it. The IO on the main board is going to be used for the hard drive and maybe a disk drive because I want one. Don't ask for a specific use, because I don't have one, just general purpose without having to use my new laptop once I get it. This project won't happen for a little while, but I like to know exactly what I will be doing ahead of time. This is my Chromebook: HP 11A G6 EE

I have a Chromebook I got in ~2020 for my birthday (wish I got a Windows one instead) from my great aunt and a couple of months ago I realized that it was really slow when it was plugged in and being used. I have installed ChromeOS dev mode and I am on the dev channel so I can hopefully one day install Linux on it (I still need to find the write protect screw). How could I fix the issue of it being slow? And even better how can I install Linux (Ubuntu) on it and find the location of the WP screw.

Hi, I am looking for advice as to whether to buy a tablet or a chromebook for my kids. My budget is £200 and the main uses would be for SeeSaw (app used for their school work. The app isn't available on Chromebooks, but you can access through the website.), and YouTube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hey guys, I am looking for something portable, like a laptop, tablet or 2-in-1 that fit my requirements. Which are (in order of importance): 1. Ability to use Desktop chrome (ie. with extensions) 2. Great battery life (Claim >14-15h) 3. 13" screen or greater 4. Detachable keyboard 5. 8gm ram or greater Able to display 4k, 60hz (a nice to have) As an fyi, the Lenovo duet 5 (chromebook) was perfect for me, only downside is that the screen seemed pixilated when I was using it. It is a 1080p OLED display on the 13", so maybe that's why? Not to sure. Any recommendations would help.

Recently, I've been in search of a new mobile workstation for my business, exploring various options. One that has particularly caught my attention is the upcoming Framework 16. However, this weekend, while I was traveling to visit my family, an unexpected work task arose. In a pinch, I resorted to using my mother-in-law's Chromebook, which she had snagged as a Black Friday special. Through the wonders of Chrome Remote Desktop, I was able to connect to my powerful desktop workstation back home. Surprisingly, the Chromebook proved more than capable of fulfilling my requirements, without the need for the processing power found in a high-end laptop that typically costs over $1500. I'm curious if anyone else has embraced this setup in their own lives and can provide insights into its effectiveness. Given that my business demands the use of a top-tier computer for tasks such as CAD/CAM and rendering, I'm now contemplating the idea of forgoing the purchase of a high-end workstation and instead opting for a SIM card-enabled Chromebook. Any thoughts or opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, my daughter's Chromebook does not work, it loads the OS (Chrome OS), but gets stuck while loading her profile, I tried a factory reset and it also gets stuck while loading the profile after the password and all (so basically the same spot), I've tried adding a new profile (my own, not child) and it does work as intended, doesn't really feel slow or anything. Any advice on how to proceed? this is the model: Lenovo Chromebook Flex 3 11" Laptop, 11.6-Inch HD (1366 x 768) IPS Display, MediaTek MT8173C Processor, 4GB LPDDR3, 64 GB eMMC, Chrome OS, 82HG0006US, Blizzard White Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You've been clickbaited! HA! I did buy a lot of ~400 Chromebooks, but it was absolutely intentional. These lots are available on every auction site I know of at insanely low prices (I'm talking ~$10 USD/unit base price), and I saw an opportunity. My idea originally was to fix and flip the laptops, after possibly flashing them with an up-to-date and supported OS. I even went as far as to sacrifice my dignity and post on Reddit to gather suggestions for alternative OS's with long-term support from the community. In some ways, Chromebooks are actually a great product for this kind of enterprise. They don't have hard drives that can be removed and destroyed, come with an OS*, and in addition to being steeply discounted second-hand, are physically very simple devices, making repairs fairly simple. The project essentially had a few core goals: Make the power of even basic computing accessible to more people Give Chromebooks new life Reduce e-waste Do some cool nerd shit It's been great to see more and more coverage of this kind of thing by LMG, and now that they've actually directly addressed the Chromebook issue on WAN Show, I figured I'd post here and gather some feedback and ideas from this incredibly creative and eco-conscious tech community. There are a few specific things that I'd love to get some others' thoughts on - There are obviously many options for alternative OS installations, but the main issue that I keep running into is long-term support. Projects like GalliumOS, a Linux distro specifically designed to be installed on EOL Chromebooks, are no longer supported, while Neverware's CloudReady was purchased by Google and killed (shocker) in favor of Google's own ChromeOS Flex. ChromeOS Flex is currently my frontrunner as an alternative, because it's the most likely to support Chrome hardware, preserve the Chromebook featureset and experience, and extend their life. Testing, fixing and flashing Chromebooks is super tedious. Because of their locked-down nature, automation is basically impossible on any level and Google's own documentation recommends using a Rubber Ducky USB to automate things like domain enrollment. That's not even broaching the complexity of flashing a new firmware and operating system. One possibility that I've considered foe the long-term is the "Uber Eats" model - crowdsourcing labor to fix, flash and test the laptops from university compsci students or high school techies, passing the cost to the end user while still undercutting new low-end laptops. I've considered the idea of selling refurbished laptops back to school districts or refurbishing their existing Chromebooks as a service, but this would require some kind of reputation and relationship with school districts and probably include some super duper fun government contracting gymnastics. For some reason it seems like the chargers for second-hand laptops disappear into thin air. It's very rare to see a lot that comes with them. Compatible chargers are available from Alibaba for as little as $4/unit, but I'd like to avoid any unnecessary new goods. A substantial number of them actually use USB-C charging, which led me to consider buying USB-C chargers for all of them and outfitting the rest with USB-C-to-barrel-jack adapters as necessary. I'm not sure if this is actually a better option. USB-C chargers are arguably more future-proof and widely compatible, but the adapter introduces more points of failure. Pretty much all of the laptops have considerable cosmetic damage caused by long-term exposure to grade-school children. I've considered painting them, covering them with stickers or vinyl sheets dbrand-style, or just putting them in laptop cases to hide the scratches (see the next bullet). I've explored the idea of not using any shipping materials, instead opting for a reliable laptop case and bag. My thinking is this - if a laptop case is sturdy enough to handle drops in daily use, it can handle shipping. Along with the bag, these will also have some real value to the end user, rather than creating more trash. I've also considered recycled shipping materials as a fallback option. I know this is a lot and I hope it won't be interpreted as me asking the community to do my homework! I've already invested a fair bit of time and effort into this project and only want to find the best possible approach with the assistance of other like-minded people.

Ok, so my school gives students Chromebooks and I wanted to take advantage of the system, because I can. It has heavy restrictions as well as access for teachers to view your screen at any time. I was wondering if its possible to run an external version of ChromeOS on the already dedicated hardware, portably. If this is imposable, can I get a RasberyPi in a miniature case, and use the Chromebook as a monitor for it? I do not plan on actually using it , its just a fun little project.

Hello, I was given an Asus Chromebook C434T for work. I was wondering if it supports an ultrawide external 4K display? I’m currently using a 22 inch old monitor from work and wanted to upgrade. Also, I’m trying to decide between two 24 inch monitors or one giant ultrawide 36 inch maybe? I want to be able to pull up multiple excel spreadsheets and use other various software for work easily. I figured I could kill two birds with one stone and have a bigger monitor for personal gaming and movies at home as well work, maybe. I want to make sure my work device will support the ultrawide 4K if i go that route. Amateur here. Any advice?

Summary Google services seem to be down in multiple areas, with no uniform characteristics known. YouTube is almost uniformly out everywhere, whereas other services like Docs, Meet, Classroom, Assistant seem to be a hit or miss depending on various locations. Mostly Error 503 (Server Maintenance, Overload), which is not a problem Google should face. Account related services have issues, so YouTube will still work on Incognito Mode. Mostly back... Google has also released an official tweet on the reason of the outage, alluding to "internal storage quota issue". My thoughts Shocking, and might come with repercussions, mostly on the end of services reliant on Google Cloud. 45 minutes was a bit long and must have been deep rooted. Still waiting for repercussions to come up. Meanwhile, the internet does not lose any satire. And Google employees can't login either. The fact that this affected home security tools is scary, man. Those reliant on Google for home security really took a vulnerable hit there! Could call this 2020's season finale! I feel happy that LMG has floatplane, because they would have been considerably hit by this revenue loss if not for Floatplane serving as a cushion. Also, it's funny that Google "ran out of shortage". Explains the 503 Error code being served on most pages! Moreover, seems like Google's running out of storage. They are aggressively deleting old accounts that have been unresponsive for 2+ years, deleting trash after 30 days, and ending Photos unlimited storage. All these storage saving measures and a storage related outage point to one thing: We might be nearing the point of saturation of the internet. HELP! As stated above my Chromebook will not turn on. The screen only shows a very dark blue screen and does not accept any form of input. The screen still has a little light left but the power indicator is off. I have two years of data and images on it and I am very sad. I was on the steam website when it just froze. I couldn't move the mouse and I couldn't reset it. After ~2 minutes it turned to the dark screen and it has been that way for an hour now. I am getting desperate, someone, anyone, help. https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-chromebook-11a-na0010nr

Hi everyone my Chromebook stopped working this morning. I was looking for help finding a good, but cheap, laptop that can do game development as a replacement. I am currently a student so I don't have that much money. I am interested in game development so I am looking for a computer with a minimum of an i5 proccesor and like 8gb of ram. Any suggestions on a good laptop around 700 dollars? I was looking at the "MSI Katana GF66 11UC-453 15.6 Gaming Laptop" but I am not sure how good it is.

I have an old Chromebook that won't be receiving new updates anymore. It works but is slowish. Not worried about bricking it. I won't cry about it. Just want to tinker with it and if I can bring new life to it, great. I would like to remove Chrome OS and put whatever linux distro would work best on it. I use Pop!_OS currently on my PC and love it. How do I go about this? Does anyone have a recent guide? I am new to Linux. Hello everyone! I am coming here to get some help picking out a linux distro for my chromebook, an HP Chromebook 11 G5, with 4 GB RAM. I would preferably like this distro to use GNOME, I will deal with a bit worse of an experience for it to look a tons better. Essentially, I need one that will fit under 15GB of storage. I'm currently using Zorin OS Core, and it runs OK, but was wondering if there were better options out there? Any help will be appreciated!
