Hello, I'm going to sound like the biggest wuss ever but I need to update my bios for a certain update. Now I'm actually scared of doing this but I know what I'm doing. For some reason I think my power is going to suddenly go out and that's it for my motherboard even though it has a dual bios. Why am I like this, I don't understand why I can't bring myself to update the bios. Any ways on whihc I can reassure myself. Many Thanks, Fire!

1. Budget & Location $800 USD 2. Aim I'm going for an all-around machine for light gaming such as Minecraft (modded), Terraria (also sometimes modded), and some e̶m̶u̶l̶a̶t̶o̶r̶s̶. I will also be using it for CAD with fusion 360 and Autodesk Inventor as well as video editing (1080 mostly) with Filmora 9. 3. Monitors Just one 1080 Asus monitor. Nothing special. 4. Peripherals Already have USB mouse and keyboard. Windows is not an issue. 5. Why are you upgrading? To have an up-to-date pc that is snappy and capable with the programs I run without completely re-fitting my current pc with new parts. I have been using an old prebuilt pc for a long time now and I am looking to upgrade to a new custom one to build myself. This is my first time doing so, so I'm looking for any tips from more experienced people to help or tell me anything I did wrong. My budget is $800 but I can give or take about 50. I just need any tips you might have for different parts than the ones I chose, anything that won't work or I am making difficult for myself, or places I can save money to put towards more important things. The total price of the screenshot is $784.84. P.S. The Seagate Barracuda will just be for extra storage since I have lots of pictures and videos. The SSD will be the main boot drive. The custom prices are from lower priced parts elsewhere.

Hello! This is my first time actually building a PC from parts I get to choose. I've always been a scrapper so quality and efficiency meant nothing to me till now. My wife and I spend a ton of time in the office gaming and working together, but I'm definitely the heavier gamer. His: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/NorikNA/saved/HRnXRB Hers: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/NorikNA/saved/mZWmCJ Budget (including currency): No more than $5000 for both. More money allocated for the all white build. Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR, LoL, all sorts of other games. I enjoy streaming and some video editing, but I want to stream way more. (Current PC inhibits ATM) Other details: No need for other peripherals at the moment. I mostly want to know if I did well picking theses parts out. I learned a little to late that PWM fans would have been better for my wife's PC, but I already ordered those unfortunately...

Hi guys, Kind of a weird question: How do i check RAM (or general replaceable hardware) compatibility on a laptop? I am a mechancical engineering student, second year, and i use SolidWorks a LOT. Now, for this, i use my beautiful laptop with a 4th gen i7 processor, and 8gb of DDR3 ram. The general problem: The ram and HDD (which is gonna be an SSD soon) crap out on me whenever i try to do anything significant with it. I AM going to do a clean install some time in the future, probably in a few weeks or so, but i haven't yet and the thing is most likely infested with PUP's and Malware, as i'm running MWB right now and it's come up with... an undisclosed, but rather significant number, of threats. I know that what i currently got is 8gb dual-channel DDR3 ram, running @ +/- 800MHz. The laptop is a 3/4 year old ASUS N56JN-CH038H model if that helps in any kind of way... Thanks for the help, and cheers mates! :3

Hi guys, So, i have a question. I want to upgrade the ram and drive in my laptop, as the those, right now, aren't cutting it anymore. (well, it's cutting onions when i use it... T_T) How do i check whether new hardware is compatible through something like device manager, or similar programs? For instance, i want to check whether my MOBO can handle DDR4 memory, howz? :3 Cheers!

Hey guys, looking through the various sub-forums, I didn't see a definite place for price check posts. Where would be the best place to put them? If Off-topic is the right place then here's my current build (selling to fund a mining rig). Was looking for a general price estimate on this thing It was a true beast when I first built it, and still can run games at 1080p on medium-high settings comfortably (60+fps). Replace the GPU with something new and it's a 4K ready machine! Would $500 be too much to ask for? I looked around various sources for the prices of the individual components, but found very wide variance. Any advice would be nice! Thanks so much.

Hello, I just completed my "first" build, I used to have another PC, but a friend was the one that pretty much build it, and choose the parts. I did not really game much on it. The only games I played on it were: Minecraft and Skyrim. I wanted to play the new games at a decent frame rate at 1080p(my monitor is 1080p). Also having some future proof for maybe going to 1440p. But that old PC just didn't keep up. So I decided to build a PC by myself. So I can truly call myself a PC gamer. So I researched videos of Computer parts for months, save money to buy the parts. So this is waht I came up with: CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler MOBO: MSI Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: SSD OCZ TRION 150 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive HDD Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Blue) ATX Mid Tower Case PcPartPicker Link After recieving all my parts thru mail I decided to grab a Screw driver and put all the parts together and Whala! my new PC was ready to game on(Actually to Install Windows on it). I choose the i5-7600k because I want to overclock it and get a bit more power. My question is, will my CPU cooler be a problem? or the PSU? The only part that I did not like as much( I will definitely change in the future would) is the Hard Drive. I grabbed the cheapest 2TB HDD, and it is super noisy, it sounds like a really old machine from 1998 or something like that. Well I guess you get what you pay for. So, what do you think about my build? Do you like it? Would you change anything about it? PD: Sorry for my horrible grammar, English is not y first language, so I am sorry if your Eyes are hurting in pain due my bad writing skills

Hi there, I was looking to slot in another gtx 970 to run as SLI as I'm looking to upgrade my monitor to a 100hz 1440p ultrawide monitor. I currently have this motherboard and cpu: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/gfYXsY/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97mxgaming5 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/Tvzv6h/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k now, when I initially bought the components I bought it with SLI in mind. the motherboard SAYS it's SLI compatible, but am little confused with the 16x slots it says: 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8) (The PCIEX16 and PCIEX8 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.) * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.. so it works, but doesn't utilise the x16 slot? or does it cause any bottlenecks? if anyone could clarify, please help. thanks in advance, Ray

Hi all, So i'm going to have my first gaming PC build, and I just wanted a quick check on the parts I chose. The builder helped me pick the parts so I guess it will be fine, however as a budget bound student I can't afford any wrong purchases . So here are the parts I picked. parts list: CPU: Intel core i5-6500 MoBO: MSI B150i Gaming Pro Aura (*) GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GT OC CPU fan: Cooler Master Hyper 412S RAM: Crucial CT2K8G4DFD8213 (2x 8gb @2.133 Ghz) (MoBo suppurts up to the 2.133 Ghz speed) PSU: Cooler Master GM G550M SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Case: Fractal Design Nano S Windowed (*) Further Info: - Added in later stage: a m.2 SSD, probably 500Gb for extra & faster storage. - I want a SSD only build. - I did look into the RX480 8gb model but for several reasons I decided upon the GTX1060 6GB. My question: - Are these parts compatible? Thanks to everyone in advance *I decided to change the case and MoBo; i really like the Nano S' design, and love windowed pc's. Therefore I also changed the MoBo, its the same MoBo as first, only about 10 bucks more expensive because it has lights. I thought this would look nicer in the Nano S with a window

The computer overall is slow and laggy. My computer even lags when only using chrome with a couple tabs open. Computer Specs: Motherboard: ASRock H97M Pro4 CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K RAM: 32GB GPU: GTX 1080ti OS and drivers are installed on a 256GB SSD Everything else is installed (assuming installer allows me to change download location) on a separate drive Things I have done to check my computer (which also gave back a positive result): Full system anti-virus scan Full system anti-spyware scan CCleaner for registry clean up Defraggler on all my drives Updated all my drivers (including BIOS) Ran "chkdsk" on all my drives Ran "wmic diskdrive get status" SpeedFan "SMART" had either a green "OK" or empty icon beside all my hard drive attributes Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic WD Drive Utilities "Run Complete Drive Test" on all my WD drives Reset my computer I also downloaded SpeedFan to check my hardware temperatures and two things stood out to me. The CPU and AUX icon would switch between a green check mark and red up arrow, however, their temperatures would consistently stay at 43 and 46 degrees Celsius respectively (a couple days ago the AUX stayed at 41 C instead, I don't know if that's important though). Everything else has a blue down arrow. Also while my computer is idle (only task manager and SpeedFan running), SpeedFan's reading on my CPU usage would jump around between 2 - 30% while my task manager would indicate a more consistent cpu reading at around 1-5%. When opening up Google Chrome, SpeedFan's CPU reading would jump to 60-100% while task manager readings indicate a jump to 20-30% before going back down. Is it possible that my CPU is the reason for my computer Is it possible that my CPU is the reason why my computer slowing down or is this simply just my computer reaching the end of its life cycle? Also are there any other checks I can try running if my CPU is unlikely to be the reason? Thank you for reading.

recently I download an app called Alibaba.. said to be like Ali Express but in bulk. I started looking around, and found a lot of gaming laptops from known manufacturers(msi,razer,asus..)with a price tag of 350-450 $. A price that to me looks weird. So, since Linus Tech Tip did that Ali Express graphic cards video, may be you we'll be interested in getting to the bottom of it. And to everyone interested in seeing for themselves go ahead prove me right (PRICE IN PICTURES IN NIS, ABOUT 350-450$)
