im in the us and im looking to build a new gaming computer. I want a powerful rig so my games dont look like they were made in ms paint, yet im trying to be realistic in my goals as i am on a very tight budget. I plan on playing games like M&B Bannerlord, which involves a ton of ai in big scale battles. I plan on playing vr games such as Half Life Alyx. I may do a little of modeling but its not a main concern. I am currently upgrading from a computer built around 2013-2014, cant remember. I want to play at 1080p as i am fine with that, although hopefully capable of 1440p, as i might get a 1440p monitor someday. I would really like to make my new pc small, close to console size(i know its possible, just dont know where to look).Cooling isn't an issue as i have a fan/water-cooling hybrid cooling system in my pc that i can use.I dont need a case as i will build one myself. My budget is 800 USD, although i am willing to stretch the budget slightly *edit: my specs are an AMD A 10-5800k APU, one functioning 4gb ram stick, and a rt 550, and an old derelict dying motherboard.(keep in mind that the computer has been neglected and so dusty, that I can't clean all of it, and to the point of breaking one of the 2 ram slots.) many thanks, Blank user

So, after a long time saving money, i've finally started to buy my first PC parts, so far i've bought everything except for the GPU. I am looking between these 3 options that fit my budget: RTX 3060 (Zotac) Radeon RX 6600 XT (either XFX or PowerColor) Radeon RX 6600 (XFX) My CPU is an i5 12600k I am a software developer and i'll most likely going to use Linux (probably Ubuntu) as my main SO for work, but if i want to game, i know Windows is the go to. I have a double monitor setup and i am aiming for 1080p 60 FPS high (if possible) gaming.

I'm considering attempting to build a server to back up data off of our computers (there's 4 with around 1tb of data total right now) and to store movies (this will be rather substantial because I plan on putting my entire movie collection on it) I would like to give access to family members remotely, they're give or take 40 miles away, I'm not entirely sure if that's possible or not part of the reason I'm here. I would also like to be able to be able to watch content off of something like a roku or a smart tv, also not sure if that's possible. I want to initially build it cheaply, and upgrade parts over time to have better performance, the current configuration I'm thinking of is this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sRYssJ. I would also like to know if it would be possible to set up the server to back up the contents of the 2tb drive on to the 4tb drive nightly, the idea between the two would be that all of the media will be stored on the 2tb drive and the backups on the 4tb drive. Whenever these become nearly full the idea would be to replace them with larger drives in a raid array but for now to get going I don't want to spend more than $750 if I don't have to.

I have been saving up for quite a while for my new build. My last build crashed and burned when I mixed and mashed a bunch of parts from two builds I had already done and through a series of unfortunate events a motherboard, CPU, and 1 of 2 graphics cards died (it wasn't my fault, the parts had been used for mine and were old to begin with). I currently have (laying around my house): A GTX 770 with a triple fan cooler made by PVY (I think) with 2 GBs of GDDR5 memory. It has been used for overclocking and used by multiple people. An AMD Black Edition FX‑8350 4 GHz 8‑Core Processor which I used for my first gaming rig and has been used in times where it would run (with a stock cooler) for days. An MSI gaming motherboard that has the AMD CPU socket on it. Unknown of the model but still working. 2 separate sets of 8 GBs of DDR3 memory clocked at 1600. A 240 GB HyperX Predator M.2 SSD A Seagate SSHD with 4 TBs that doesn't like being partitioned A 240 GB OCZ Arc 100 Sata SSD A huge case weighing over 40 lbs from Germany. Deep Silence 6 or something A 2k monitor at 60hz that I plan on using for gaming A pair of sennheiser rs 175 which I also plan on using. a Corsair K95 RGB that I love and plan on using. I have a bunch of old 320 GB - 1 TB drives laying around Mionix 7000 that I plan on using MX Master I plan on using for Work An Asus ROG laptop with an Nvidia GTX 965 2GBs GDDR5 memory two SSDs in side it one as OS and the other as mass storage. (I am currently using this as a desktop) and of course the $2500 What ever desktop I build has to last another 4 years or so (college) and I don't see any upgrades really happening since I plan on Hard-line watercooling (separate from $2500) this desktop as part of my senior project. I plan on buying an oculus rift even with how expensive it is but that expense will be separate from the $2500 that I said. I originally planned on buying these parts: Arctic Storm GTX 980 ti from Zotac because it already came with a waterblock and the fans on it are already amazing Intel i7 6700K Some motherboard around $200-250 that has a monoblock by EK about 16 GBs of DDR4 Possibly an NVMe Drive but I should be fine with my PCIe SSD A Cooler Master Master Case (Probably the new one from CES) etc But then I realized that Pascal is coming out very soon and I became scared that it's performance would be through the roof. I know it will probably be at most a 20% improvement but to me (for this rig to last 4 years with VR) might be a requirement. Also, I heard about the Skylake revision coming out sometime and that made me even more worried about building too soon. If I did wait for Pascal I would have a little more money by that time and I would probably jump at the next Titan to come out (I also do 3D rendering and a few other development activities in my free-time). This seemed fine until I was looking at a new game that I though looked really fun but under the base-requirements it listed a GTX 970 (it wasn't VR) and I flipped out! My laptop is no where near able to handle that! So I though about and came up with a few new ideas. Here they are: Build a cheap but powerful rig with the lowest end 5th generation intel i7 and a GTX 970 or equal AMD card. Build my awesome, baller desktop and just hope I make some more money to do upgrades when they come around. Use the AMD CPU I already have and just get a new graphics card and maybe a new Motherbaord and just use that for a while. Just buy a freaking Titan x or 980 ti and use it with my old AMD board and see what the hell happens Do nothing and wait for all the new parts to come out (I really don't want to do this but if I have to I will. Convince me) Buy the newly cheaper R9 Nano for some pretty good performance. Please help me with what I should do. I really need help. I have a serious gamer itch and nothing to scratch it with. I really miss my desktop. Also, if I can't build a desktop with some large, backed up, protected storage I am going to need to buy one of those RAID 1 NAS's because I have some very important files

Hello, I am Planning on Building my Own PC soon, and I am in a PC Dilemma. I can't decide between these two builds, and I need help on deciding which one is best for my needs. 1: Budget and Location: My Budget is going to be $600 for now. I'm gradually building this, and I want to have a Decent PC to start. I'm near Augusta, Georgia, so this is $USD. 2:What is the Aim of my PC? I am going to be using my PC for Schoolwork (Just started College), Gaming (Not really competitive, and I'm Playing Team Fortress 2, Combat Arms and Minecraft.), as well as Video Editing and Rendering.(Using AVS Video Editor, nothing much beyond that.). Also, I don't really care about the quality of how I play the game, As long as I can play and record games at Medium settings at 60+ FPS, I'm fine. 3: Monitors: ONLY one monitor. I will not be doing any Multi-Monitor setups or going for a 4K Monitor. I will likely use a 1366x768 or 1920x1080 Monitor. 4:Peripherals: I have a mouse and Keyboard, but I only plan to Upgrade the Mouse soon, as the current mouse I'm using has issues with the right-click button. 5: Why am I upgrading/Building a PC? 1) My Laptop is very outdated now. I've only had it for 3 Years, but It's parts are really starting to become Lackluster. It is a Lenovo B570 Laptop with a Intel Pentium B950 Dual Core at 2.1Ghz, with Intel HD Graphics, 8GB of RAM and a 750GB HDD. at this point, It cannot record games very well, and Video editing and rendering takes quite awhile. Although not very old, I can see now why it was a questionable $300 I spent. 2) I am extremely interested in becoming a Computer Support specialist, and Building my own PC will give me the confidence to go into the Computer industry. Also, I want to make a building experience I can actually enjoy. 3) I want to make a Computer that will last me for awhile. Something that I can upgrade, but may not need to upgrade for awhile. Notes: 1) I actually don't care much about the game quality. As long as it can play games at 720p or 1080p on Medium-Ultra settings at 60+ FPS, I'm fine with it. 2) For video editing, as long as it gets the job done with no issues, I'm fine. I don't care much about it getting done quickly, just efficiently. 3) This will be my first build, and I am not planning to make it a show-off type of build, but something I can be proud of. So here's the two builds I've come up with: Project Phazon: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($289.99 @ TigerDirect) Motherboard: MSI Z97M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($106.99 @ Directron) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($75.98 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $53.99) Case: Enermax ECA3280A-BL ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $29.99) Total: $606.93 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-27 22:35 EST-0500 Athlon Dragon: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($75.04 @ Mwave) Motherboard: MSI A88XM GAMING Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($89.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($68.85 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $53.99) Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card ($149.99 @ Newegg) Case: Enermax OSTROG ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $29.99) Total: $512.84 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-26 19:49 EST-0500 Which of these builds is best for my situation?
