  1. I've got an Acer Aspire a315-g42-r5yr Laptop from a friend for basic maintenance. After cleaning everything, changing bios battery, i went to reinstall windows, i successfully booted the installer, installed windows, and then: no bootable device found. I've tried all over again, and again, then i started troubleshooting. I went trough every posibble setting in bios, least 3 times and if windows is installed, i get no bootable device error. But if ubuntu is installed, everything is working fine. Any ideas why is this happening?
  2. I have a Predator Helios 300 (2020) that has an issue whereby when i have my charger plugged in, the battery and power light indicator blinking infinitely in the middle of gaming mostly and at random times but goes on when it triggers but when i replug the charger in the charging port, everything goes back to normal for a minute or two before it goes back to blinking. FYI, my laptop's main board was shortcircuited like a week ago, and the technician came and replace the main board and now im left with an issue which is this. I need some help with this issue and hopefully someone can clarify the issue to me or better even provide a fix for it. The temporary fix that i did was i disconnected the battery from the main board, so now everythings fine, i hope i could get a clear answer on whats the issue is whether its the battery or the charger or whatever Thanks everyone for replying! battery isuue.mp4
  3. Hello, I have the acer desktop specified above and I want to upgrade my cpu from the i5-10400F to the i5-11400F. Mainly becuase I want to use higher clocked ram. But will it work? I can't find any bios drivers newer than march 2021, same year that the 11th gen cpus were released. I need the expertise of the more experienced builders here in the forum. I've got this computer: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-10400F-Processor-Keyboard-N50-610-UR14/dp/B089H12X3P?th=1 But with 16gb ram and a rtx 3060ti instead. Thanks in advance. Regards, Marcus.
  4. Greetings Everyone! My sister's laptop for some reason drains too quickly, charged at 100% and it'll die in around 20-27 minutes (Microsoft estimation) which is pretty accurate if not quicker. I tried resetting the battery using the pinhole at the back of the laptop but I think that just made it worse and is now stuck charging at 24% although it seems the battery drain estimation is more accurate now. I also did the acer care center checkup on the battery and it says "Battery Life has degraded due to longterm use", does that mean the battery is dead?? Or do I just have to calibrate something any help would be much appreciated thank you!
  5. Need help making a really crappy old laptop faster. It's an Acer Swift 1 SF113-31 (released in July 2017) with a Pentium N4200 processor and Intel HD 505 GPU... you can probably see where this is going. 4GB of RAM. Currently running W10 (64-bit). I ran Cinebench R23 (multi-core) and got 677 points @ 12 celsius - I was too scared to run single-core because it would probably get too hot lmao Anyway, need some tips on how to speed up this thing (I don't expect much). Ideas?
  6. I've had this monitor for 2 years and at the time it was one of the fastest monitors out there. Now there is 500hz alienwares that are nearly the same price. (I got it for $500 in 2021 they still sell it but for only $300ish) Just want some advice.
  7. Hello I have this laptop: Acer Aspire VX15 / VX5-591G. The problem is fans are spinning 100% since the GPU "fried". The only solution I found to control the fans is RWeverything and replace value 189 in EC tab. It is set to "12" now. I did some research and found out that default is 52 (auto fan speeds based on temps). After changing the value laptop runs great. But there is no option to autorun this program and setting. I need to open program every startup with fans blasting max, then tediously tweak the setting. Is there any other way to permanently store the setting in ROM? or autorun RWeverything on startup + the settings, or any other way to disable / unsolder whatever the GPU out? How GPU fried: For the past months ntb had about 4 BSODs about GPU and sometimes LCD just went randomly off (mostly while playing video, thats when dedicated GPU starts) after a while I assume the GTX 1050 burnt. It's not showing up in BIOS or system anymore, it's not a problem ntb is old and since it's used just for work, it's okay to run only on integrated Intel 630. Thanks much!
  8. I am currently running a PC with a 2070Super, i9 9900k, and 32GB RAM. My current monitor is: Acer 27in 1440p 75hz I am looking at potentially purchasing a: Sceptre 32in 4k 70hz For gaming, which is better? Why? I should be able to run 4k on a 2070S and the difference in hz is only 5 - is it that big of a difference? Edit: I only play non-competitive. Modded and Vanilla Minecraft, Old School RuneScape (PvM), and I do like to occasionally play newer AAAs.
  9. My old Acer Swift 1 SF113-31 currently runs Windows 10 Home (ugly). My device meets all the requirements for running Windows 11 - except the Pentinum N4200 processor isn't supported. Should I still install Windows 11? What would the consequences be? And what are the (safer) ways to do so?
  10. Hello, I created a bootable copy of the files/OS on my Acer Nitro 5 to my hard drive(Seagate 1TB hard drive) via a popular program known as Macrium Reflect. I also erased all the files on the ssd from which I copied all the data. This bootable copy works on two other devices: my older HP Laptop(intel i5-1035G7, 8 GB DDR4), and my friend's desktop PC(AMD Radeon RX 6700 , Ryzen 7 5800X, Corsair Vengeance C16 (2x16) , 650 Watt PSU, Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro-p). On my HP laptop, the drive worked instantly when I changed the boot order(when I used it, it was a bit unstable though, sometimes with random BSOD's). On the desktop PC, it worked after troubleshooting a little bit(but was very slow, especially given the specs of that desktop). Here is what I did: - changed boot order via BIOS -tried startup repair, continuing to windows, and using a USB Device Options after confronted with the "inaccessible boot device BSOD) -updated bios, updated windows to latest version Acer Nitro Specs: Model Name: AN515-45-R6XD 8GB RAM, RTX 3060, Ryzen 5 5600h. Win 11 Bios:InsydeH20 Setup utility additional context: I had sent my laptop to a PC repair shop earlier to fix a broken LCD, and to do that I erased all my files and transferred it to a Hard Drive before giving it to them. Even before I sent it(but erased the ssd files) I tried booting from the hdd and it did not work(on my acer, but worked on my friends Desktop). Even after i got the screen replaced and the laptop returned, it did not work(on my acer, but worked on my HP and Desktop). Ever Since I got my laptop back, I have encountered some trivial(at least I think so) issues(that probably don't affect this), such as the acer logo not popping up on boot, and the trackpad acting differently) below is the error showing startup repair not working, and the log file mentioned, which does not seem to reference the D: Drive, where my Hard drive is on?) Any Solutions on how to fix this are appreciated. Thanks for the help. SrtTrail.txt
  11. My AN-515-58-79X9 has absurdly high CPU temps (95-100 degrees Celsius) and usage (85% +) while my GPU has relatively low (80 degrees and 40%) temp and usage. This is with the fans spinning at max and the performance preset on while forcing the GPU through MUX. I was playing Far Cry 5 with max settings, 1440p, and getting average ~80 fps on the bench. Cinebench gave me 11914 on multicore while the CPU consistently hit high temps. This was the highest score it hit in multiple runs. In general it also felt like the device was underperforming. Is there anything I can do to improve this and get scores back up to normal? Should I replace this device? (I have this option available until 12th July)
  12. My laptop specs: Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 Intel Core i5 10300H GTX 1650 ti 32GB Kingston DDR4 3200Mhz Ram SK Hynix Factory SSD 256GB Toshiba HDD 1TB Context and Background: So this laptop has been used for the span of 3 years and has been experimented on by me with performance optimizations like the extreme type of messing with the registry and all that settings, over the course I've encountered many issues I have fixed or resolved and had a trial and error learning on this laptop I repaired, cleaned, and factory this laptop multiple times, recently I just built a new pc and I wanted to take my laptop's SSD that I upgraded (Samsung 980 Pro 1TB) so I moved that to my pc and moved the laptop's original SSD which was on the PC as a boot drive and I moved it back to the laptop, it booted fine however my PC had AMD specs and software everywhere so I figured to factory reset my laptop as usual using the settings (I got lazy to use the USB) so after installing everything worked in order and I got ready to install drivers, I installed every driver at the same time via windows update and from the manufacturer's site, however when I got to the intel drivers (I used the intel utility software that detects and updates the drivers for you the screen started glitching and bugging as earlier, it was only black and some flickering on the top portion, so I went ahead and connected it to a display, i then tried uninstalling the display drivers and monitor and reinstalled older versions of the intel driver, I also checked the ACER website and found no display drivers on there but I installed everything listed there that was compatible for my laptop before reinstalling the intel drivers and still nothing happened, over the course of 3 days I tried trial and error and factory reset my laptop 4 times using the settings app, I then noticed after the first restart that the screen wont work when opening the bios or UEFI when I tried following several guides online on how to fix it. I tried DDU but still the same issue, the only solution I have not yet tried is ones concerning the UEFI settings and bios. I looked into the acer forum to see if I could somehow get the bios or windows recovery menu into the display but no solutions popped up and non of the existing ones worked apparently some guy said that the laptop was only designed to display the bios and UEFI on the laptop screen itself This morning as I am writing this, I tried to boot into safe mode using the TeamViewer panel on which it did boot however I lost contact and tried force restarting the laptop, after several cycles of the display just glitching again I assumed something was stopping it from booting into windows. I then opened up the laptop and unplugged everything and reset the CMOS battery, no luck, I tried taking out the boot drive and only the windows USB installer and still nothing. P.S. This laptop had a display glitch a year ago but this was caused by burn in as I left the screen on for the entire night as I was running trading bots on it overnight, I took it to a repairshop and they turned me down because they said it was hard to fix the display cable was too sensitive to replace because it's a high refresh rate screen, I then fixed it by using a youtube video that flashed every color rapidly to fix burn in, had it fixed after 1 week of running it non stop.
  13. Sorry if it is a bit off-topic but I think it is important to share the experience. A couple of years back my sister was looking to update her laptop to something newer, after some research i recommended her the aforementioned Acer Aspire 5 - A515-44. Equipped with a ryzen processor 4gb of soldered ram with an extra Sodimm slot for future upgrades and a 128 gb nvme SSD. I know in paper it doesn't sound great but keep in mind my sister only uses it for writing documents for university, reading pdfs and watching videos, she was also coming from a crappy "compaq" made in Argentina, with an i3 I think it was, so a pretty big step up. Recently she has been experiencing the normal hiccups due to the little and slow ram and also ran out of disk space, one thing that I liked about the PC is that in the box came an hdd expansion kit (picture 1), this kit includes screws, a carry plate and a ribbon cable with the data connection to the disk, the idea behind is that one can update storage and run two disks at once. So today I set myself to upgrade the ram with another 4gb using a random SODIMM I had laying around and also install the carrying plate so when I got the new disk everything was ready. I looked online for a teardown to check how the HDD plug had to be installed. When I opened the laptop to my surprise the ribbon cable connector that is supposed to be soldered to the motherboard under the wifi card is not there, this laptop has never been opened, they just dint added it, the solder pads are there and everything but the dam connector is not, I don't know who at acer makes this types of desitions but they went out of their way to include everything you need to upgrade in the box but they miss the connector, a piece that probably cost 10 cents, it is incredible. Nex time i have to get a computer for a family member for sure I'm going with framework. Thanks for reading.
  14. My friend has a Acer Aspire 5 laptop he got last year, he tried to factory reset Windows 11 after his storage got full and it stopped detecting drives. Me and him have tried using different drives with OS's put on them and tried Windows recovery on a USB and it couldn't detect the NVMe in the laptop, I tried using another NVMe and another Sata SSD and niether of them were detected by the BIOS, Boot selection, or the Windows Recovery. The only thing the laptop detects as a boot option is Linpus Lite, which was never installed on the laptop or any of the drives we used to try and fix it.
  15. Hi, My laptop has been on this screen the entire day so far and not sure what I can do. Any help or is it done and I need a new laptop. Thanks in advance for any replies
  16. Around a month ago I decided to repaste the cpu and gpu on my Acer Nitro AN515-54. When opening up my laptop I noticed that the pink vram thermal paste looked dried out and didn't cover the vram chips evenly. I didn't have a replacement so I decided to not do anything about it. After repasting the cpu and the gpu the temps were great but after a couple weeks I noticed that the temps were starting to get really high again. I thought it could've been because of my poor technique (it was my first time changing the thermal paste), so I decided to repaste again, and I just did. The temps seem fine, but I wonder if I should do anything about the vram thermal paste. To be clear what I mean, the pink thermal paste looks something like this: (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianGaming/comments/tnp2tb/what_to_do_with_this_pink_clay_like_stuff_on_the/) If a replacement is necessary, I am thinking of getting thermal pads (as it is significantly cheaper than k5-pro).
  17. So here's the state of things: I have 2 laptops for 2 of my colleagues at work. Both ACER (it will maybe become relevant later) but on different platforms - one is 11th gen Intel cpu with nvidia dedicated graphics and one is AMD (Ryzen 2nd gen) with dedicated AMD graphics. Starting with the first one (the AMD variant) as it was stepped down from a executive to my colleague I installed a fresh copy of windows 10, updated the bios, updated drivers, installed the MS Office suite, installed syncthing, and a couple of other programs that we need for work, nothing special, nothing with virtual devices, so the usual stuff. All went smooth sailing on my part, and as I handed the device to the receiving end it began to randomly enter a sort of standby state: the screen turns off, the keyboard lights turn off and the keys themself become unresponsive for a couple of seconds (it varies from a short flick to a couple of seconds), sound goes off also, and when it "resumes" usually windows asks for re-login. The executive that had the notebook also reported this behaviour but to a less frequency. I tried: event logger (nothing stands out), another outlet (we only use the original charger) as the one that we use regularly serves a large number of devices and PC's, used it on battery power, used it with a external monitor to rule out the ribbon cable to the in-built display, reinstalled the display drivers, reinstalled the chipset drivers, unplugged all the peripherals and used a bluetooth mouse to rule out a possible broken circuit on the USB's. Temps are well bellow 60 degrees (C) usually sitting at 37-40-45. The device is not used for gaming or resource intensive processes. In the end we gave up, we called it a problem (gap in welds on the motherboard, or a semi-fried component) and we bought a new notebook (also a ACER at the request of the colleague). The Intel 11th gen: same thing, but this time on windows 11, and Intel guts. We tried: same things. I could also run a live version of linux or even install it for testing purposes but it's a "hot" device, my colleague works on it regardless of the problem every day and needs it actively. I'm going crazy here. I'm pretty damn sure it's a software problem because across two platforms and different OS's the only thing that remain constant are the applications that we installed after the OS and drivers. Please advise. This could possibly be the first time I got so mad I just stopped searching for the problem and blame it on ACER's device managent software or a clash between the firmware and a particular app in the system. 267905398_ACER11thgen.evtx Acer Intel 11th gen.txt
  18. So, this laptop is new, and the problem showed up after a week. It randomly "flickers" sometimes not every time. I brought it to Acer Service Center and got the LCD replaced and the issue still shows, tried doing a clean install of Windows 11 and still has the same issue, tried resetting and still the same issue, got it diagnosed in Acer's Office and it said, "No Trouble Found", downgraded it to Windows 10 and still has the issue, tried updating the graphics drivers and still has the issue, also tried doing a clean install of graphics drivers and still has the issue. What do you think is the problem? Please help because I need this laptop for school, thank you. 324671120_5880064438725336_937532622323971910_n.mp4 323651474_8437599166310288_4770523994992088771_n.mp4
  19. A while ago I upgraded my laptop to a 500gb ssd. I recently needed to grab some of my log ins (google) off the old one so i took out the new one and put the old one back in. After doing the work I put back in the 500gb one and now it wont boot to windows. I am using windows 10. I suspect its something to do with the windows licence. I need this laptop for school tomorrow as it has my work saved and I have not backed anything up. The keyboard also is not working I suspect a cable I moved or drivers but that is not important. 20. So about a week ago, I bought the Acer ED323QUR along with some Additional Displayport cables, along with the one shipped with the monitor. I'm running an RX 580 8gb from powercolor. Never had problems on my 1080 60hz monitor but I upgraded to 1440p 144hz and while it looks amazing and my frames are smooth, I keep getting black screens every now and then, sometimes aggressively back to back. It lasts only a second or two and it doesn't crash anything, I can still hear what's going on in game. It never happens if I'm on something other than a game. Here's what I've troubleshooted so far. I have updated drivers, updated windows, turned off and on freesync, I've overclocked the GPU (this actually causes the black screens to become less frequent but still persists), underclocked, undervolted, changed power plan for PCI, changed refresh rate in games and on windows to 144/120/60. Nothing has really worked except switching to HDMI and it has absolutely no problems. Obviously, I don't want to do this because HDMI has its limitations. I can only assume it's my GPU but I figured I'd ask the experts. Save me!
  21. Hi I am planning to purchase a new laptop in the very near future. I currently have an Acer Aspire 3 A315-21-92FK, and its time for a laptop with an actual chip. I upgraded its HDD to an SSD, but its AMD A9-9420 is such a performance cap. The one I am looking at is the ASUS Viviobook S15 S513IA-DB74 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1584028-REG/asus_s513ia_db74_ryzen_7_4700u_8_1ts_rdn_15_6_windows_10.html/specs) Here are the specs: -AMD Ryzen 7-4700U 8-Core -1TB M.2 PCIe SSD (+1 2.5" drive expansion slot) -1920 x 1080 IPS Display -8gb SO-DIMM 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM (+one slot to upgrade to max 16GB total) -Fingerprint reader I plan to upgrade the RAM with an equivalent stick (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1576454-REG/crucial_ct8g4sfra32a_8gb_ddr4_3200_mt_s.html) for a total of 16GB ram. The cost of the laptop + extra ram comes to $1,065.71 CAD (or $840.52 USD). Am I stupid or is this a SWEET deal? Machines equivalent specs that I've found are all more expensive (and/or are super ugly). Is this a good laptop to buy? For reference, I use my laptop for schoolwork (browsing Google Chrome with 10 or more tabs, word processing, programs such as AutoDesk Revit or Sketchup, etc), music production (FL Studio 20), photo editing, video editing and more. I do NOT game on my laptop, so I am not as interested in specific gaming specs. If there are any other laptops I should consider, let me know! (I would like equivalent or better machines at around the same price point). Thanks in advance!
  22. Hi, I am planning on upgrading my laptop in the very near future. I currently have an Acer Aspire 3 A315-21-92FK. Even though I modified it with a 2.5" SSD, its AMD A9-9420 chip is an incredible performance dampener. I am planning to get an Asus Vivobook S15 S513IA-DB74 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1584028-REG/asus_s513ia_db74_ryzen_7_4700u_8_1ts_rdn_15_6_windows_10.html/specs), and will add another 8gb ram stick to make it a healthy 16gb (its a great computer btw if your looking for a $1000 laptop; AMD Ryzen 7-4700U 8-Core, 1tb ssd m.2 PCIe (plus a 2.5" drive slot) and 8gb ram (expansion up to 16) at 3200 MHz). My question is this; is it possible to transfer the data from my current SSD to the one in the new laptop's without deleting the Windows 10 installation on that drive while not transferring my current copy of Windows 10 to it (I want to start as clean as possible on the new laptop without losing my files/applications). I would just put in my current 2.5" SSD in the expansion slot, but I am aware that M.2 is just plain better than 2.5" due to SATA's lack of (relative) speed and would like things to be as buttery smooth as possible after my Aspire 3 experience. Thanks in advance!
  23. So recently I've just bought an Acer mid end gaming laptop and I was thinking to upgrade the ram. So then I checked on CPU-Z that it comes with DDR4-3200Mhz ram. But then I was confused when I check on ark.intel.com, my CPU (i5-10300H) memory type is 2933mhz. So, my questions are: 1. Can I put a 3200mhz in the second slot, by any chance, would there be a problem after installing it? 2. Should I buy a 2933mhz (which is unreasonably more expensive than 3200Mhz), or should I buy a 3200Mhz (which has a reasonable price)? Sorry for my bad English Thank you!
  24. Hello guys, I am trying to fix a broken monitor that I bought for cheap, but I ran into a problem. The LCD is not cracked but the it does not show any image. I do not have any information as to how the monitor broke, but the backlight turns on. The PC recognizes the monitor when I plug it in but I don't get the OSD menu either. Is my problem the LCD or the display controller?? Thanks ahead for reading and trying to help me out.
