Hi, I just got two GeForce 8800GT graphics cards, and don't know much about that era of computer compnents (I was still a kid). I would like to use these in a build, but don't know what was around back then. If anyone could educate me on hardware from that era, or even find me places that still sell them (new or used).

Hi, I am trying to build a system with a ryzen 1200 and a geforce 8800gt. My issue is that this graphic card doesn’t boot on that system. The system is trying to boot, but the gpu fan keep spinning at full speed. Do someone know if the geforce series 8 are compatible with ryzens cpu? I don’t really need the graphic power I just want that computer to host a media server and I had this card, cpu and mobo laying around. Thank you for your answer. system specs: motherboard asus a320m-k Ram 2x8gb ddr4 gpu geforce 8800gt cpu ryzen 1200

Ok FPS problems are back again in CS:GO with the LAN PC... this is getting really annoying because its NOT thermal throttling which i guessed was the problem last time, which was probably wrong but hey now the card NEVER goes above 40C no matter what so now that i have installed a temperature monitor i can see that my CPU never goes above 60C when playing CS and the GPU never above 40C so there is no thermal throttling as far as i know. the problem just returned after having been gone for a looong time, well 4 or so games with both bots and people(seeing as i only play on it to make sure it works at the moment thats like 6 days lol) and it only crashing(admittedly worse) but now with the recent Gamma update to CS:GO the crashing seems to be gone and everything was working untill after 2 bot matches and around 8 rounds of full 10 on 10 casual on office it just decided to drop from 45-100 fps to 15-20 fps and now when i hopped in a casual match on Inferno it was fine whilst spectating the first round but the instant the second round started i was down at 10-20 fps from around 50-70 fps. im thinking VRAM or something right now but im not sure what to do about that or how to monitor that on Linux seeing as it was hard enough to find something that nicely monitored my GPU temperature. i am running medium settings with shaders at lowest and no FXAA and that + the extra cooling from the fan i strapped to it seemed to fix problems the last time but now i have been gone for a week and havent been able to tinker with it and i updated the game and it was great until it dropped the FPS like that. i really have no idea what the problem is this time so if anyone has ANY idea or potential fix i will try it becasue this is honestly becoming a really annoying problem to try to fix every other time i start the game... anyway here are the specs of the PC and a link to the build log and update thred for it: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT(custom passive cooler(now with 140mm fan)) RAM: 2x2GB Corsair DDR2 800MHz Motherboard: ASUS P5N-E SLI PSU: Dell 300W Case: Cardboard box HDD: WD2500YS 250GB 7200rpm OS: Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 Thanks for any replies and any help here, i really have no idea what it is

Ok so i have 2 options here, one is to get this computer that i found that i can get for around $70: CPU: AMD Phenom 4x 9759 GPU: XFX HD 4870 1GB Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 RAM: Corsair 2x2GB of 800Mhz DDR2 PSU: Corsair VX 550W Price: about $70 shipped to me and i have a 250GB HDD Or i could try to get parts, and in that case this is basically what i can afford: 1: CPU: I5 2500 GPU: 8800GT(this will stay the same over all the builds because i have it) Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2PV Intel H6 RAM: Samsung 2x2GB of DDR3 PSU: 260W Dell PSU i have around HDD: 250GB 7200RPM WD (i have this too) Price: about $105 2: CPU: I5 760 GPU: 8800GT Motherboard: Generic H55 motherboard off ebay RAM: Corsair 2x2GB of DDR2, unknons speed PSU: 260W Dell PSU i have around HDD: 250GB 7200RPM WD Price: about $115 Ok this is what i could come up with right now and im pretty sure build 2 is pretty crappy value compared to build 1 tbh, but thats the pricing. shipping is brutal to Sweden so this is what i could find. This PC will be running Linux and will only have 2 purposes, 1: experimenting with Linux 2: a LAN pc to play CS:GO on at either 720 or 1080p so what should i get? the main problem is that none of the people selling CPUs have replied to be so i dont know if i can still buy them or not. thanks for any replies and any help

this is my LAN PC this far, this is like the fifth or so version of it because just when i get ready to buy the CPU, every time the seller dosent respond well here it is this far, tell me if there is anything that really needs to change right now that wont be super expensive CPU: I5 2400 GPU: NVIDA 8800GT (have) RAM: 2x4GB of DDR3(havent decided on what to get exactly) Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2PV Intel H61 (have) PSU: some Dell one i have at about 260W i think(not 100% sure, will probably be switching this out but i dont have the budget right now) (have) HDD: 250GB WD RE WD2500YS (have) Case: not sure but to be honest mre then likely a cardboard box with some fans. (have) CPU Cooler: Il see what i can dig up from my pile but i know i have some generic 115x coolers. (have) total budget right now is $50, and im spending $30 on the CPU and waiting untill i have some more for the motherboard(end of the month probably) Ok thats what i have right now, i might get a I5 2500 or maby even a I5 3470(if i can find the cash) but im not sure it will be worth it, the only thing this PC will be ever used for is tinkering around with Linux and playing CS:GO, thats it. the main worry is the GPU right now but i already have it and it might be able to play it at low 1080p 60Hz avrage or something. otherwise il just step down to playing at 720p and sourcing a 720p monitor because there pretty cheap here(or atleast cheaper then getting a new GPU lol) thanks for any replies and any suggestions with this

Ok im trying to sell my G1 GTX 970 right now and if i get the price im asking right now im fine but seeing as there is basically no way im getting 2800kr(about €300 lol) which is a pretty decent chunk of retail price already, i need to survive a bit longer after i manage to sell my 970 before i can afford the glorius 1070, and my only choice is to use a 8800GT that i have whilst i save up because i run 2 screens and my motherboard only has a HDMI out sadly(stupid ASRock lol) so i need to use a GPU. all i really do is play CS:GO, NFSU2 at 1080p and watch anime and youtube at 720p/1080p so how long do you think i could manage to survive with a 8800GT? i really badly want a 1070 and im pretty sure im not going to be able to sell my 970 for much once it drops and im really short on cash. thanks for any replies and any help, people with a 8800GT or have experience with using one are verry wellcome to put up some round figures on what i can expect for preformance(im guessing basically shit )

Ok so i have a 8800GT and a 250GB HDD laying around that i want to use for a LAN box to run CS:GO at 1080p 60Hz(or there about 720p is fine) but i need a motherboard and a CPU too, so i have decided to try to get a 771 Xeon and modding it to 775 and then try to pick up a 775 board. i know how to do the mod but i dont know what CPU or motherboard to get and i dont know where to get them because Sweden is a total bitch for used parts if you live in the north and you dont have a car... so some help here would be great, also if you happen to have something like a Q6600(or a Q9xxx) and a 775 mobo and you live in Sweden feel free to sell it too me lol. thanks for any replies and any help

Ok so im selling my 970 to be able to afford a 1070 when it launches(and no i dont care for Polaris and AMD right now because i want Shadowplay and all that) but between the cards im going to use a 8800GT, but im pretty sure i cant just slam that in my rig and its good to go because i dont think it will run on the latest grahics drivers so were do i find those? also is there anything else i should know before putting the 8800GT in my system? im ofc overclocking it to its limits so no need to mention that. thanks for any replies and any help here

i have a 8800GT and not much money at all and i kind of want a LAN rig to run CS:GO and lighter games because i dont feel like bringing my full tower PC all the time so how would it preform in CS:GO? settings would probably be low and at 720p but if it can do more then 30 its almost fine

Ok so i have wanted a LAN potato for some time now, it just has to be able to run CS:GO at 60fps preferably at 1080p but it probably wont lol. well here are the specs so far, tell me what you think and for the CPU i need help to pick one so please tell me which one i should get Specs: CPU: Core2Quad Q6600($45) / Core2Quad Q8400($45) / Core2Duo E8400 FSB1066($20) / some other Core2Duo's for around $15 GPU: NVIDA 8800GT w/ passive cooling RAM: 2GB of DDR 400MHz CL3 RAM PSU: One that i found with the motherboard, not sure what Wattage but im sure its fine Motherboard: Fujitsu Simens D1826(there is little to know info on it but its a LGA 775 board) Storage: 250GB SATA HHD from WD Im really not sure what CPU to go for here because im on a tight budget and i would rather not spend $45 on a CPU if i dont have to and i also have no idea what the FSB numbers mean and if they matter at all, i just put the one for the E8400 there because it said so in the add for it. thanks for any help and any replies here, i will probably run Linux on it if i end up building it but il figure out what to run on it later for now i need to just know how this will preform in CS:GO and what CPU to go for

Ok so heres a litle story about how i just screwed up a LOT of things.... It starts with this 3COM switch i am trying to crack into that i got a coupple of months ago. i was trying to access it, or rather finding a way of accessing it so i could factory reset it. so i looked at the reat I/O and saw a port marked console 19200.8.1.N and realised it was a serial port. i looked at the rear I/O of my main PC and saw that there wasent a serial port there so i started looking around my storage of old hardware for some mobo with a serial conector(not realising that this would still require me haveing a serial cable) and i found an old server that had that and also had some SATA ports on it. so i stuck a pentium 4 from '04 in it(i have literally got no idea what p4 it is ) and then looked at the rear I/O again and looking for somewere to conect my screen, but there was nothing that i recognised as a display output, only a serial port, a shit load of usb 1.0 ports and some audio stuff. I started looking around for a video card but quickly realised that i had thrown those away or sold all of them, so i hoped on blocket(Swedish craigs list) and started to look for cheap graphics cards. i found a passivly cooled Geforce 8800GT for $20 and decided that that would do as something to just run a screen. then yesterday i went to the hardware store to pick up some other things i saw a serial to usb converter and i ended up buying it. so now i didnt need this old shit server i thought, but now i couldent back down from buying the 8800GT... then yesterday i posted a topic about some of this but anyway i cant seem to get any access to the switch with this serial to usb cable no matter what i try it seems. i just got home from picking up the 8800GT as of wrighting this and when i came home i tried slotting the card into the server so i could atleast sell that off or something, and the pice of shit dosent fit because this server motherboard has some kind of special slot for graphics cards, also one of the small heatsinks on the 8800GT literally just fell off. so now i have spent hours of work on and about $50 on a load of stuff thats compleatly useless to me right now. also i have found another motherboard with a serial conector, that also will take the graphics card, but i have no idea what socket it is and the pinns seem like they might be bent, and i also just sold all my other processors then the p4 in the server 3 days before wirghting this so i cant even find one that would fit... and i just found another motherboard with serial and a processor but it dosent have SATA and wont take the graphics card. i feel misirable right now and i have no idea what to do. all i wanted to do was to reset the freaking switch and now i just have a freaking pile of useless hardware that im not sure what to do with... fml

Hi so recently i bought an old zotac geforce 8800gt 512mb gddr3 for like $10 at an old computer parts store. ive tried to play some games on it and believe it or not it was able to run some games at 1080p on low to medium settings. i manly bought this card to 1. have a cheap decent card to put into my system since i sold my gtx 950 2. learn how to overclock graphics cards. im using MSI after burner to overclock my graphics card so i was wondering how do you overclock a graphics card? ive overclocked my cpu in my system to 2.6ghz using the manual FSB and everything else on auto. so i was wondering if overclocking a graphics card would be the same thing?
