I need advice on CPUs. I'm building a pc that is intended mostly for gaming with hopes of recording and editing in the near future. My motherboard that I have already bought is an MSI B250 pc mate which, correct me if I'm wrong, does not support overclocking. I have 8gb (2x4) corsair vengeance ram, and I intend to buy an evga 1060 3gb gpu. I'm not sure however which CPU to get. Should I get the i5 6500, or 6600?? (Budget oriented) Thanks, Cleedus777

Hey I am choosing a better processor. I am having trouble choosing between the i5 6500 or the i5 7500. which gives you the best bang for your buck.

So I am going to upgrade my system and just need some opinions on which way I should go for gaming all of today's titles to the next gen ones in 2017 and perhaps 2018. i5 6500 with asus pro gaming mobo and gigabyte geforce gtx 1060 6gb graphics card or i5 6600k with asus z170a mobo and EVGA SSC geforce gtx 1060 3gb graphics card Thank you.

Hi all, Recently decided I want to build my own PC, I ideally want it to run games like Overwatch, nothing too far above that calibre really. Just wanted to run my build by a few people with far greater knowledge of the industry than me, any changes you guys would make I am more than happy to adopt, just trying to stick in a roughly $1000 budget. Also not 100% if everything is compatible, but here's what I've got so far; http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/JnjTr7 . Thanks a bunch! Will

So I've decided on an i5 6500/6600 and a gtx 1060 3gb version to buy. But I'm wondering, is the AsRock B150M Pro4 a good mobo for this? I don't think I'll need any fancy features, just everything that's necessary and helps make it last long. (It also has very good audio and by accident perfectly fits the color scheme of the vga...)

Hello LTT forum, I was looking at a desktop and settled on a i5-6500, Windforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5, and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. Where will the system bottleneck reside. Sincerely, Bicreeper P.S. I can be fine with a 6600k too

So I am looking to upgrade my CPU, and I'm thinking of getting an i5-6500. Will this CPU be good enough to run games for the next few years? I thought about an i5-6600k, but found it hard to justify the price. Also, can you overclock an i5-6500 through the motherboard BIOS? Thanks in advance!

Hi guys I want to know difference between i3 6100 and i5 6500 in gaming with 1060 in games like BF1,BF4, World of Tanks, CS GO, RaiinbowSS, Ghost recon Wildlands, Forza Horizon 3... Will i3 6100 bottleneck with 1060 and that stuff. THX Guys

Hello, long story short I just have overclocked my i5 6500 to 4.7ghz, it is pretty stable with one catch.. 1.43Vcore in bios and cpuz shows core voltage 1.44 and hwinfo shows between 1.432 lowest and 1.448 top. Idle temp is between 30-40C while web browsing. Temperature never went over 60C with corsair h115i in quiet mode. There was only one time for 65 C which was just a spike for a milisecond that is all, under heavy load with prime95 for two hours it did not go over 60C. Is there any risk frying to CPU with this temperature values ? Motherboard: MSI z170a gaming pro. PSU Zalman LX 600W

After OCing my i5 6500 CPU to 4.4Ghz, I could visibly see the increased scores in commonly used CPU benchmarks such as 3dmark and Cinebench. But I noticed L1 cache bandwidth dropped nearly 75% after OC as I checked it on AIDA64 and SiSoftware Sandra. Although lantencies at all levels got better (they all decreased) but that bandwidth drop is just too much to just pass by. I'm concerned if this is going to make gaming performance not any better or even worse. It will be very much appreciated if I could get to know how someone who knows well about the CPU architecture and stuff thinks about this. Thanks in advance.

I have an FX 8350 and I feel like it's upgrade time. I live by a Microcenter, and they offer fantastic deals on both of these processors. Here is my dilemma: I have a 144hz (ASUS VG248QE) monitor and an r9 290. I play CS:GO (and obviously utilize the 144hz), Overwatch, Battlefield 1, GTA V, and H1Z1. Do I go for the i5 6500, or do I go for the $100 more expensive (when bundled with motherboard) 6600k? I don't plan on overclocking either unless I get the 6600k, then I obviously would overclock when it starts wearing down in like 3-5 years. What do I do? I plan on adding a Vega (RX 580/590?) or Volta GPU (1170?) when they arrive Also, I really don't care about getting 144hz in any game but Counter-Strike and Overwatch(Which i currently do), every other game is enjoyable how it is even if I'm not hitting 144FPS.

Hey guys! The Core i5 6500(goes upto 3.60 GHz) and the Core i5 6600(goes upto 3.90 GHz) are both great processors. But, for a budget build should I go for the cheaper one(6500)? I will save around 1500 bucks(25-30$). Is the Core i5 6500 enough for gaming? Or should i spend the extra buck and get the 6600? PS I've left overclocking out of the picture.

Ive put the g2 650w for future upgrade-ability, 390 maybe, unless something better for the price comes out. Z170 board, i know its a locked cpu but i will eventually upgrade to a 6700k or whatever other cpu is higher end on the same socket. An SSD will be added when i have some spare money. I will be using it for Gaming/Photoshop and possibly premier pro cc. On one of my last posts about my build that I'm planning, somebody told me that I should switch to an i5-6500 CPU instead of the i5-6600 I was going to get because I had though it would give me a very decent performance boost over the 6500. My build is below ,-vvv-, you should check it out. But, I was wondering if anybody else had some input on that. I was looking up performance benchmarks for both of them and comparing and I don't see much of any difference besides clock speed on turbo boost. I want to be able to play Rocket League at max settings 1080p 60fps while streaming it to Twitch or Youtube (1080p/720p @60fps) so my friends can watch me do really bad. Rocket League is a very CPU heavy game because PhysX runs off of the CPU instead of GPU. In my laptop I have right now I have an i7-6700HQ which can barely do that and I'm hoping a desktop i5 will be able to outperform that. Any help or opinions?

I would like to have your opinions on the computer I am about to build for myself. The part I am the most worry about is the motherboard. Having reliable wireless ac is important for me. I will probably wait a month or two before I buy a graphics card (gpu budget around 300$, advice are welcome). This will be my main computer, I mostly browse the web but I also like to play recent games. Hey guys! Muy current MoBo and CPU is a ASrock H61M-VG3 with an I5 3470. I play games such as The Division, Shadows of Mordor, GTA 5 and The Witcher 3, and I've been noticing frame drops more often as of late, added to the fact that if I even attempt to open another program while playing these games my PC slows down by quite a lot. Task manager shows CPU @100% usage, while neither my R9 390 nor my 8 GB ram ddr3 go any higher than 60-80% usage, which leads me to believe the CPU is being forced too much. I have a 250 GB ssd and 1 tb HDD @7200 rpm, so the only conclusion I draw is my CPU. This leads me to the question in hand, I currently have about 3000 Argentinian Pesos (about 200U$D), and a friend willing to buy my CPU+RAM+MoBo for 4000 Pesos (around 250U$D), and another 2000 Pesos (125U$D) from selling an old system I had, netting 9000 Pesos (575U$D), which is about enough to buy a Skylake combo I was offered, which is I5 6500 with a Asus Z170A motherboard and (x2) 4gb ddr4 ram modules. Is the inversion worth it? Is there another setup you recommend for around that price? Thanks!

Hi, would 6500 bottleneck 1070? If yes: Option1: What about 970? Option2: What about oc-ed 6600k? I'm planing to buy new pc in the next (2-3) months: ASRock Z170 Extreme4 (ASRock H170M Pro4) i5-6500 2 x 8G HyperX Fury DDR4 Samsung 850 Evo 500G GTX 970 (whatever is on promo at the time of purchases from ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI...) Corsair RM750x (Corsair CX600) FD Define S Window Do you think i can go 1070 without making the system cost much more (it currently costs around 1300USD)? Thanks. : )

Hey guys so my pc arrived some days ago and I built it.Then I booted it and the video fans spinned for a sec then stopped.I thought it's the psu (I had a corsair vs6500 650w) so I changed it. I changed it to a Seasonic S12II 620W.Now,this psu should easily handle it. The gpu still won't boot. Then I checked the ez debug leds and the cpu led was turned on.So that means that the cpu is the problem right? What can I do? My parts are: MSI B150M Night Elf i5 6500 8gb ddr4 ram r9 380 sapphire nitro intel ssd blah blah http://pcpartpicker.com/p/VKYpxr

I'm building a gaming rig around this July/August and can't decide on which Gen on the Intel side. From the research that I have done the 4690k has great OC headroom and but is on the haswell chipset with ddr3. The 6600k or 6500 are good, but straddle the 4690k in price, with good OC headroom on the 6600k but for more money especially with the z170 mobos going for upwards of 100 USD. Currently I am running a Core 2 quad q9550 with a MSI 650ti boost. I plan to get either the msi r9 380 4gb or the msi 960 4gb. I am welcome to suggestions on the CPU / rest of the build. Thanks!

Hey guys I was just browsing the web and saw that the I5 6500 is going for $204 dollars on amazon where as the 4690k is going for $234 on amazon. I plan on upgrading my mobo and CPU in a few months and my budget will be around 500 dollars. 75 dollars of that though will be used for new OS so I was planning on pairing it with the gigabyte ga z97 mobo. I originally planned on pairing that with the i5 4690k but saw that the 6500 was less expensive seem to have better reviews. So my question is, is the 6500 or the 4690k better for gaming? Component Selection Price CPU Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor $224.95 Buy Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard $90.88 Buy Total: $315.83 If anyone has and better Ideas for a mobo and cpu that fits within the 415 dollar budget then I'd love to hear it. Oh and just fyi I plan on pairing it with a gtx 980. Thanks!
