I guess this is news? I don't know or feel much about it. Would love for people to chime in. So, the key I take away from this is that they want to centralize bitcoin?? Is that how they open up this article? It seems so positive, but then why are some people thinking this could cause bitcoin to crash or even break into more than one coin? There are so many cryptocurrencies now and, as I understand it, many of them are based on Bitcoin in some way, anyway. So, why would splitting the coin ever be a good idea or something that could be a solution? Bitcoin blocks need to be upgraded so there can be more transactions per block *without* changing the block size, so why does it seem like this is fundamentally changing the cryptocurrency? Just for a '*convenience* upgrade' it seems? So, here is where I'm like whoa there. Whoa now. SegWit was proposed by a Bitcoin Core developer well over 2 years ago and already been an option made available last November. Yet, this Bitcoin Core developer doesn't actually represent and speak for Bitcoin Core?? It has been an 'option' for ~9 months, yet it still hasn't really been integrated/adopted?? Sketchy again, the positives are all great and OG-type sounding. Yet, "Nearly all Bitcoin Core developers" oppose it and it seems like the majority of the internet does too. Do you support it? Haha do you understand what this really means? Good or bad? They just now mention BIP 148 as the main 'competition'. Furthermore, passive aggressively hint that without SegWit2x Bitcoin collapses or splits. What happens to bitcoins today if the coin splits by the end of the year? "Disclosure: CoinDesk is a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, which acted as organizer for the SegWit2x proposal and has an ownership stake in Coinbase and BitPay." Sketchy http://www.coindesk.com/explainer-what-is-segwit2x-and-what-does-it-mean-for-bitcoin/

Hi I'm a newbie to building and am building my first computer. Thanks to u Linus (and team)I've put together a great computer however I have reached the limit of the pc part picker community to help me. so I'm asking you guys to help me refine and change stuff in my build. i don't use terabytes of storage (currently only use 70gbs however a new pc means new things I can use) I'm not a extreme overclocker so a one touch is awesome(not needed) games currently include: minecraft, terraria, the powder toy, terra tech(never used due to .1 fps) finally I have a top budget of $1000 but any thing $100 higher is stretching it My current build (updated) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/PhMP3F

Im somewhat new to the PC master race. But I just did my first rebuild yesterday, in my new In Win GT1 case. and today I installed a Hyper 212 Evo Cooler Master, not so much fun for my 1st time doing so. but its in and doing its job. the highest temp was 60-65c playing Doom 2016. the interesting thing since the Hyper 212 evo install my FPS has jumped crazy high to max 185 fps on all high settings running Heaven benchmark. also my gpu temp now maxes out around 125, as before it hit 170 to 185 temp. its all weird but very kool.

My PC that I want to build, mainly for gaming and regular work. I want it to last for some time so longevity is important. I am not sure if I should invest into DDR3 or DDR4 Any suggestions are helpful. Specs: -MSI GeForce GTX970 GAMING 4G Graphic Card ($539AUD)-Cooler Master Vortex 211Q Super Low Profile CPU Cooler ($25AUD) -Intel Core i7-6700 CPU - Skylake LGA1151, 3.4GHz, 8MB - BX80662I76700 ($420AUD) (No stock cooler) ^hence -Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ($70AUD) DDR4 SET -Kingston 8GB Kit DDR4 2600Mhz HyperX C15 Dual Channel Kit (2x4GB) ($99AUD) or Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 2400MHz Vengeance LPX Desktop Memory - CMK8GX4M2A2400C14 ($89AUD) -Gigabyte G1-SNIPER-B7 ATX Motherboard ($179AUD) DDR3 SET -Corsair 8GB kit (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance XMP Heatspreader Desktop Memory ($79AUD) -Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2PV DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard, LGA 1151, DDR3 ($105AUD) I haven't chosen a power supply due being unsure about wattage and different pin connectors for GPU, CPU and motherboard Please also post any ideas for an SSD My allocated funds for the build are just over 1000 so 1000-1300AUD If you find better deals that are located in Australia and ship to Perth that would be great.

This is kind of late, I guess, but Linux Foundation decided to team up with edX, a non-profit online education site founded by Harvard and MIT, to allow easier entries into Linux courses. In this case, an introduction course that usually costs $2400, will be free over the summer. There is no limit or prerequisites to enroll and you can even "audit" and keep the course's materials, tests, and have access to the forums associated with the course. Otherwise, you can complete the course and get a completion certificate for free unlike some classes on edX. Source: Anandtech, "$2,400 'Introduction to Linux' course will be free and online this summer". And here's edX's page on this: "LinuxFoundationX: LFS101x: Introduction to Linux | edX". Linux is everywhere and it's pretty much the bare-bones or foundation of many operating systems like Android's OSs, Valve's SteamOS, and Mozilla's Firefox OS. The other thing is that Linux tends to be the tinkerer's OS as it requires you to actually explore it unlike Windows or iOS which are made convenient for users, but for some they are too restricted. So, if Linux is so open-source and kind of directed to a DIY mentality, then take a class? Ignoring the fact it's free, some people want guidance or want to learn it from a school environment. Personally, I'd like some guidance before messing with anything. I could have learned about automobiles the old-fashioned way, but there was a class in high school and those are usually free, so I took it. Even though it was an introduction class, there was a ton to learn. So, I'll probably sign-up even if I don't go into computer sciences and it'll be handy to have some knowledge of Linux. Who knows, I might end up being the guy who makes a revolutionary, Linux-powered toaster. Edit: Damn it! Someone beat me to it. There's an actual toaster-PC. It runs on Unix-like OS called NetBSD which is sort of close enough to a Linux-powered toaster. "NetBSD Toaster with the TS-7200 ARM SBC".

*Alright - so I noticed I'm a little short on cash... I forgot about the 13% Tax!* This used to be my old planned build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/QKshFT And this is my current one I'm looking at: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2rQYmG Aim: Firsts things first, this is going to be mainly for gaming, but I'm a small YouTuber and I will be uploading videos 2 - 3 times a week and I plan on doing game design/programming next year. I have a project planned for the future (Dev. time 2015 - 2017), which will require a lot of rendering. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to purchase an i7 (I don't think I need it as of now). So an i5 will have to do for now... I might just sell the CPU on Classifieds when I have an extra $150 in my pocket, but the question is... Is an i5 decent enough to render? Budget & Location: My budget is about $1400 for the build, $1600 total (Taxes included), Since I'm in Canada, I will be using NCIX. To save some money, I decided to drive to their store instead of getting the parts shipped. Monitors: I will be using 1 monitor, and I don't plan on upgrading to any more in the near future... Keep in mind, plans may change. The monitor I am currently using will run at 1920x1200, which I purchase a new one in months to come. Peripherals: No, I don't need any Peripherals, I have my own. I will need an OS, but I will just purchase a key off of G2A and boot it off a USB. (ISO drive) Side notes: - I didn't choose any SSDs for my build, but I may be able to get some off a friend who will help me with the build... I will add those later on, and plan to upgrade other parts as time goes on such as Dual 780's, SSDs, Water cooling, etc. - If you are going to re-edit my build please use ca.pcpartpicker.com and multiply the base total by 0.13 so the final price makes it easier on me. - Yes, I am going to SLI in the future, but you never know, I can turn that 780 to a 870 or 880 when before I start to SLI. That's about all the information I can provide, if you have any more questions - I'll be sure to answer! Reason I'm asking for help is I'm looking for any cheaper parts but has the same power. For example, I'm not too sure about the memory I have chosen, and hopefully looking for a cheaper, yet more reliable part in that category. Still quite new to this, so pardon my noob(ness) Thanks for the help, cheers!
