I've been looking for parts for a build I'm going to do and I'm wondering which card would be the best choice, mainly performance wise. As far as I've seen they are both around the same price range if I'm looking to get the 4gb vram 380. So which one should I buy?

The R9 380 is the perfect card for my budget but I have been looking at the GTX 970 and it looks great. I was wondering if I should buy a R9 380 now or wait until next month when I can afford the 970. Also, which 970 should I get, I have been looking at MSI, EVGA and the ASUS.

So I just bought parts for my build. Unfortunately, they did not have stocks of the SAPPHIRE R9 380 4G. So now, I'm contemplating 3 options: 1.) Wait for the stocks to arrive (note: I've already tried with other shops. It seems the demand is high on the 4G version) But so far, not a single shop confirmed when the stocks will arrive. I think they only have one supplier. 2.) YOLO and buy the 380x which is costs 12950PhP ~270USD (the 380 is just 10700PhP ~ 225USD) 3.) Go lower and buy a 4GB GTX 960 (most probably a ZOTAC AMP! which costs the same as the SAPPHIRE 380) Current parts are: Intel G3258 ~ placeholder cpu. will change to an i7 AS NEEDED. ASUS H97M-E (this was a mistake, I thought this also had mosfet heatsinks as with the PLUS) Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4GB 1866 MHz CL9 or 10 (I dunno I did not check, this was an impulse buy as they did not have corsair RAM) Seasonic M12II EVO 520W 80+ Bronze CM Hyper 212x BitFenix Prodigy M Now. What to do.

I was looking to upgrade my system this Christmas as it just turned 1 (yay!) I was looking at the R9 380 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150730) I already have an R9 280 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150706) Will these crossfire? Also, any suggestions on a different card?

I am planning a build soon, and I was initially planning to go with a 2gb r9 380, but I was wondering whether going with the 4gb model would be a good idea, as a sort of future proofing. I only plan to game at 1080p, but I know that some games such as BF 4 and Crysis 3 go slightly higher than that. I'm not super clued up over the technical details of graphics cards, but I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the 4gb model, and also whether it will be able to fully utilise 4gb of VRAM. Please provide detailed answers, and also explain any highly technical terminology. Thanks in advance!

So im currently building a pc and deciding on GPU. R9 390 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr93908gbd5ppdhe R9 380 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9380gaming4g For 50$ more, is the R9 390 worth it? Im a noob at pc so any help is appreciated. I am on a budget, able to fit in either one but of course i would like to save as much as possible and still get a good GPU (this is for a gaming pc build). Also are whats the reason for all the different types of 390/380s?

Hello! I just found out that my AMD A8 6500 CPU is too week for my R9 380 so im facing a CPU change for better performance. CPU cahnge is a though decision and it is not the cheapest thing too. I got some advices from you guys what CPU to buy but at the moment I cant afford a new CPU and motherboard. What I have in mind is a AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.70GHz FM2+ BOX CPU. It's ideal cause it's cheap and FM2 socet. Now as the title says it would be a temporary solution so as soon as I can upgrade I will. Could this thing work or should I wait more? Honestly if it can run my R9 380 whithout significant bottleneck I would be happy. The goal is an enjoyable 30-60fps gaming.

So I plan on buying an ASUS H97-M Plus MoBo. It is clearly specified that it has 2 x16 slots but the other one runs on is PCI-E 2.0 and runs x4 only. Hence, crossfire capability (no SLI). Does this affect crossfire performance? By how much? Im currently comparing a Zotac AMP! 960 with Sapphire R9 380 (both 4GB). And im trying compile pros and cons. So, if possible, a good pro for the R9 380 would be crossfire-ing instead of buying a new card.

Hi folks! I recently upgraded to a Sapphire R9 380 Nitro 4GB, and I love it! I was planning to add another one later to run in Crossfire but I need a good motherboard to go with it. So far, I have laid my eyes on the MSI H97 Gaming 3 Motherboard: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/MSI-H97-GAMING-3-Intel-H97-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-Retail_961270.html My Processor is a Core I7 4790 (non-k) and should perfectly go with it. I need suggestions on which Motherboard would be great for a Crossfire of r9 380 Nitros. Thank you.

Hi friends, I would appreciate some feedback on this build i'm planning. Here's the part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nwqmwP Any obvious issues? I'm also still looking for a ~24"/1080 monitor, any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Help with lackluster performance in games with R9 380
Inquisitor956 posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hello. I am a very frustrated man right now. I recently upgraded from the IGPU on my A10 5800k to a MSI R9 380 4gb GE. I did quite a lot of research on this card and saw a lot of youtube videos and benchmarks of people playing games at 60fps 1080p maxed out. I installed the GPU when it arrived and I was so happy, being able to play The Phantom Pain maxed out at a silky smooth 60 fps and Fallout 4 at mostly Ultra between 45-60fps(don't laugh at me, after years playing games between 25-30 fps at low settings in windowed mode, I almost cried). Next, I decided to install my all-time favorite PC games: Oblivion, Skyrim and Mount & Blade: Warband. This is where I get very frustrated. It doesn't matter what settings I use, I never get a smooth 60fps. I used to get better performance on my IGPU in M&B:W! (I'm neither joking or exaggerating here.) My specs are: CPU: AMD A10 5800k OC to 4.0GHz (Managed to get 4.3GHz but since I'm using a stock cooler, temps were too high) GPU: MSI R9 380 4gb GE Stock: Core-980MHz, Memory-1425MHz (OC: Core-1100MHz, Memory-1600MHz STABLE) RAM: Kingston HyperX Black 4GB Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 PSU: Silverstone ST60F 600w Fully Modular Monitor: Compaq WF 1907 1440x900 There are quite a few people on YouTube showing their Skyrim gameplay with the 380 (both 2gb and 4gb versions) and getting rock-solid 60fps at 1080p with high-res textures and ENBs. I play at 1440x900, no high-res textures(not even the official one), and I almost never go above 45fps. In Oblivion, unless I'm looking at the sky or water, I don't get over 30fps and In M&B, unless I'm doing 10v10 battles, I never go above 40fps. I am new to the GPU world as I've always been using integrated graphics, so I never had to deal with overclocking a GPU or anything of the sort. I just had to turn down settings until the games were playable. Here you can see Pure GPU playing Oblivion smoothly. I use the same settings as he does (everything but the resolution, I don't use VSR, and AA) It is a R9 285, but the 380 is just a re-brand of that card, so my performance SHOULD be similar to that. And over here I created a playlist of my performance in both Skyrim and Oblivion. I apologize for the quality of the videos. You may have to zoom in a bit on the Afterburner OSD. I tried going back to stock settings on both CPU and GPU, reinstalling drivers, removing mods, installing performance mods... I have included screen captures of both MSI Afterburner and Radeon Crimson settings, GPU-Z and CPU-Z so maybe some of you can spot something(I have heard about Crimson having some issues, but this has all happened before it. I just updated to Crimson today). Also, I disabled ULPS and enabled Force Constant Voltage in Afterburner as was recommended to me and that improved my performance in Oblivion slightly. As I said, I can play TPP at 60fps, maxed out, Fallout 4 between 45-60fps with mostly ultra settings, Attila: Total War at mostly 60fps on High. I am guessing it is one of these scenarios that are giving me these issues: 1- My CPU is not being utilized correctly. (It is also possible that single-core performance is causing it, since AMD's performance is not as good as Intel's, especially when my CPU is outdated, but as I have had no issues with modern games with it, I'm not planning to upgrade anytime soon unless absolutely necessary.) 2- My GPU is thermal throttling (even if it never gets above 70c with load, and the only game that pushes both my CPU and GPU is Fallout 4, and it is a very smooth experience in that game for me) 3- My GPU down-clocking is causing these issues.(I believe this to be the culprit, since even though I OCd it to 1100MHz the core never reaches 900MHz in the game as seen in the images below. I have no idea if this is normal, as I stated above, I'm new to GPUs) Also, I apologize if I posted in the wrong section. -
I'm putting together a list for my first build, and I was originally going with the 960. But, from what I've read on the forums here the 380 pretty soundly outperforms it. There was also something about the 4GB versions of the 960 not being able to utilize all 4 gigs of vRAM... could someone clarify? Anyway, my main question is whether there are any additional features the 960 has by virtue of being newer hardware than the 380 (which is apparently made from an older gpu?) that would make it worth considering over the 380. p.s. I'm new to the site; is there a place here to have the community look over my build?

Need help!! I can't find this info anywhere and I'm kinda desperate. Will the MSI R9 380 fit in the corsair air 240?? I know length wise wont be a problem but I'm concerned about the width since corsair's spec sheet doesn't say anything about max GPU length?? The card is 268 x 138 x 40 and the max gpu length is 290mm, I'm not sure if it helps but the max CPU cooler height is 120mm. in which if that is also the max gpu cooler width then I'm kinda screwed Urgent because i kinda want to get my PC built asap thankssss!!

Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU in the next days, and I narrowed it down to 3 options. My top choice is the MSI GTX960 Gaming Edition, but if I won't be able to get it I'm looking at the ASUS R9 380 STRIX, and the ASUS GTX950 STRIX. All of them are 2GB cards. Between the R9 380 and the GTX950 what would you guys recommend?

Gaming PC with i5 6500/R9 380 or GTX 960 for 800$
nordakse posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi, I would like to get some advice for my build. I will start from CPU, I have chosen i5 6500 because its cheaper than i5 4590 (I live in Lithuania) and 6th gen, ddr4, etc.. Build with I5 4590 is only 80Eu less, so i think is not worth to trade 6th gen for 4th. Than GPU, watched many reviews and benchmarks still didint decide which one to choose, for me these cards are identical in performance, my only concern is 128bit (GTX 960) vs 256bit (R9 380). I will play in 1080p resolution and I think its wise to pick 4GB version, because new games are demanding more ram and I really want to get stable FPS in Dayz and Arma 3. Maybe you can give some thoughts about this? Or should i wait for r9 380x? Motherboard - I have no idea which one to pick. After reading about chipsets - B150, H170 and Z170, I have chosen H170 chipset bacause I dont need overclocking, SLI or CrossFire features and I wont loose performance. I picked MSI H170 Gaming M3, but I think its overpriced, for same price I can get Z170 chipset. I only want to get full performance from other parts and have 4 ram slots. Maybe you can offer some other cheaper motherboards with H170 chipset and tell what features I loose over MSI H170 Gaming M3? Memory - as far as I know H170 chipset doesnt support higher memory clocks than 2133 or I am wrong? Maybe I can go with cheapest ddr4-2133 memory without radiators? PSU - I dont need fancy ultra quite PSU, I only need to keep my system stable and not very loud. So i have chosen Corsair CX500W. 500W will be enough for my build? Maybe you can offer something better? My build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI H170 Gaming M3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($111.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($53.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($66.71 @ Newegg) Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB Video Card ($204.99 @ Newegg) Case: Thermaltake Versa H23 ATX Mid Tower Case ($54.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($53.98 @ Newegg) Total: $741.62 Thanks for your help in advance -
Hi, im new to overclocking, i know that its overclocked already but i want to squize out some more (tips are welcome to) What is the save voltage ? I am using msi afterburner ,gpuz & kombustor (if i should use something else just say it) Thanks in advance

Basically I've been on the fence about an R9 380 or a GTX 960 for ages. Both I'm looking at 4GB models. I've found an R9 380 4GB windforce 2x for £170 and a G1 Gaming 960 for the same price. Anyone know which will perform better once overclocked. Purely a gaming build with an i3-4170 and 8GB of RAM.

I'm finaly building my first PC on the 11th of this month, and I have hand picked each component: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M (Black) Intel i5 4460 @ 3.2GHz Raijintek Erebos Core Edition MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition Kingston HyperX Fury white 8GB Samsung 850 evo 120GB WD 1TB Caviar Blue Seasonic G-650 Gold My problem is Graphics cards. All the numbers look the same to me, and I can't really tell the difference between models... So these are the 3 options: Gigabyte Radeon r9 380 GV-R938G1 Gaming 4GB Asus Strix Radeon r9 380 Strix DC2OC Gaming 4GB MSI Radeon r9 380 Gaming 4G 4GB. I haven't desided if I should go with a White-Black, or White-Black-Red build, so I don't care about colors. Which one is the best of the three?

Hi guys I'm kind of new to this forum but I need some help I have got a Intel Core i7 6700K with 16gb DDR4 RAM and a Asus z-170a Motherboard. All I have left is the graphics cards, I love gaming but I do a lot of editing on my pc is well I have 1 R9 280 already and im not sure if i should get another 2 I have the money I just need to get the right one I am happy to get rid of my R9 280 and give it to my brother but would it be better for me to buy another 2. I have been looking at AMDs new R9 300 series of cards for a cupple of months now and with christmas coming up I need to make a choice I don't like NVIDIA they just don't appeal to me what so ever. I like the look of the R9 380s I was thinking of getting 2 but would it be better for me to get one R9 390 and then have the room to upgrade in the feautre or do I just go for the crossfire setup. Lots of people have been saying on different websites and videos that you should go for the better card and leave yourself room to expand, but would it be better to pair with what i have?? Help please guys I need a decision by Thursday this week!! Thanks Olly

This will be my first build and I'm looking for a pc that I can use to do some editing of 20min videos and some gaming with Rocket League, Ark, etc. I'm really trying to keep it in the $1000 range and I would like it to be only black and white. Hey guys, I had one last quick question before finalizing my pc build. Here in Canada, the GTX 970 is about 400$, while the 4gb r9 380 is around 300$. Is the extra 100$ REALLY worth the extra performance at 1080p? I'll be playing the upcoming Black Ops 3, GTA V and a couple other popular games like CS:GO and Grid 2. Should I save 100$ and spend the extra cash on some games? Or should I splurge and get the more powerful yet more expensive GPU? Pairing the GPU with an i5 4460 and 8gb of RAM.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new GPU for an upcoming build, and don't want to spend too much on decent 1080p performance. I was debating the r9 380 (4gb), the r9 280x and the rumored 380x. Which would get me the best 1080p performance for my dollar? I'll be playing mainly CoD, GTA V, and other popular games. I'll be pairing the GPU with an i5 4460 and 8gb of RAM.
