http://jalopnik.com/bmw-designs-the-ultimate-gaming-machine-510645699 BMW is usually known for engineering cars... but here's their vision of their own PC. It is designed such that it looks good whether it's upright or placed flat. It features magnetic side panels for quick access to the components, an LED sceen and knob combo in the front for quick access to the PC's stats (such as temperatures and CPU load) and fan control, and the corners can be used as handles. Quite interesting and all, but how many radiators can this thing hold?!

So with the current Steam Machine craze, I decided to think out side the box ( see what I did there ) so here is the craziness. This is meant to take advantage of Steam's in home streaming. I could put tech names but these are just gonna be casual description and links so you guys can look at it: So here is what i'm starting out with. A PNY 512 MB 9800GT Power Edition, 2 x 2 Gb 1333 DDR3 SO-DIMM ram, 2.5" 120Gb 5400 rpm cannibalized laptop hard drive. It's basically a M-ITX board with a celeron 847 soldered to the board. This is a 1U server case with an 80 plus bronze 200 watt power supply. PCI Express riser card is needed because the full length slot is horizontal in the back. Since the case doesn't come with any fans, I was thinking I might need a bit of air flow ( sarcasm ) so i'm gonna get 2 or 3 of these. So what do you think. Any feedback would be great.

Hi guys, I am running Windows 8 with the only mod being Classic Shell to make it more like Windows 7 (and every other Windows version). Every time I try to install DirectX for games, such as when I first run games that I have on Steam, it just hangs. Nothing happens. I have to force end the task in Task Manager. Then it will not run again until a large amount of time (hours) has passed, or I restart the computer. And even then, it will not work. I do not know if it is related, but I attempted to install Oracle's Virtual Machine software and it did the exact same thing. However, the DirectX problem has been something going on for a few days. It first started when I tried to install a game when I was disconnected from the internet. I figured that was the problem, but now, I am not sure. I tried running the DirectX setup for a game from inside the folder rather than letting Steam do it. Same results (and problems). Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

I was playing around and building some machines and mostly I7-4770K, GTX780 and SABERTOOTH Z87 are popping but I have problems with the other parts.. I want It to be looking sexy and to be quiet and the Sabertooth is saying it by its self.. Please do suggestions down there ... oh and the price range is like 1800$ If you don't understand me correct me Link to the current plan: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sogoodbybob/saved/2t27

Hello LTT Community! My name is Albert and I'm from the Philippines It's been a while since I last visited this forum and I promised myself the next time I visit here I would post my build! haha Anyways, when Valve first announced that they are sending away 300 of those awesome Steam Machines, I quickly enlisted myself and became a Steam Hardware Beta Candidate. But when the systems are about to be shipped they announced that only people from the United States can receive. It was a sad story So I decided to turn my rig into something like a Steam Machine. Specs: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Gigabyte Z77N-WiFi Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz Zotac GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256bit GDDR5 reference Creative Sound Blaster MP3+ USB Soundcard Seagate Barracuda 500GB WD Caviar Green 2TB SilverStone ST45SF MSI MT-C118 case ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry for the not-so-nice quality pics. It's the best that my camera can give -test fitting... -more test fitting... this time with the graphics card -this is how it looks like in the front... I removed the cover for the DVD drive so I can put my 2TB HDD inside. haha -with the help of my awesome father, we started creating the backplate for the gpu... -epicly cheap setup right here -not bad eh? -much better -this is how it looks like on the inside... notice the foam below the gpu.. it helps the gpu from not shaking inside. Also, I used a PCIe flex riser so I can plug it in the motherboard. -lay her down!!! More progress soon... I will be powdercoating the whole case flat black and have the front panel customized by my friend. Stay umm... tuned? lol Thanks for viewing

I'm sure you have all thought about it, the machine you would build if you had all the money in the world. Small form factor big form factor I don't care I want to hear them all! Hit me up

Have had this Cooler master elite 430 case for my main rig for about a year give or take a few months. It was the best option for cheap at the time, but I've always felt that the window and the front panel were ugly as hell. So, I took a trip to Home Depot and picked up a few nuts and bolts along with a couple sheets of bronze/smoked acrylic and some aluminum molding. Also picked up a few handles to go on the top for carrying. As for the insides of the case I have: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard AMD FX-6100 Unlocked processor 8gb of Patriot DDR3-1600 RAM XFX Radeon 7850 Ghost Edition 1: Intel 530 Series 120GB SSD 1: Seagate barracuda 500GB 2.5" drive (5400 RPM, storage) 1: Western Digital Consumer 360GB (7200 RPM, storage) Thermaltake TR2 600w Power Supply Corsair Liquid Cooling I started off replacing the ugly side panel window. I didnt cut a new cut-out. It's the same exact size just not crystal or cut for a fan. This was the easiest part, fit perfectly. Next, I completely scrapped the front panel. I instead replaced it with a flat straight piece of acrylic with aluminum molding on top and bottom. I held this on with quarter inch bolts and nuts, and gave it about 1" space between the front and the actual frame for airflow. It really looks great and has a nice industrial style I was originally looking for. Lastly, the hardest part, a custom made hard-drive cage/ cover / shade / partition. It's just two sections of acrylic met at a 90 degree with another corner of aluminum. Used a hole saw to cut out the wiring hole. It's still not perfect but, it looks quite nice through the window. After the handles were placed the build was pretty much done. I'll be purchasing another 7850. As well as a 1-4tb hardrive for more storage. So it's still in progress, will upload better pictures soon.

The First AMD Powered Steam Machine, Quite Impressive At $499
TechFan@ic posted a topic in Tech News
This is the first AMD powered Steam Machine prototype and it's from the botique system builder iBuyPower. Lets dive straight into the specifications, what do you get for $499 ? well actually quite a lot. You get a "multicore AMD CPU" so it seems iBuyPower hasn't figured out exactly what CPU it wants to use in this machine moving on you get an R9 270 graphics card, a 500GB HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth and a Steam controller all running on SteamOS. These specs put the system at a level of performance higher than both the PS4 & the XBOX One. Linus's budget gaming build which had a 7770 costs $450 without an OS, the R9 270 has twice as many shaders as the 7770, twice the memory and twice the memory bandwidth, so essentially it's twice the GPU so for $50 more you're getting quite a powerful machine. According to Forbes there will be two versions available : iBuyPower claims that this box is slightly larger than the PS4 and quite a bit smaller than the XBOX One. Availability is set for next year, iBuyPower will be releasing more information at CES in January 2014. Source #1 -
Hi guys, I'm preparing to reinstall my OS, but I tend to do a looot of customizations when messing with this stuff. So, I was wondering if I could stage/setup my OS in a VM, then transfer that to a boot drive/physical hardware. Could I just make the VM, make an image, and restore from the image? Or would things break? I know I can't just copy/paste, but I am just curious as to if this is even possible. As it would seem like it should be. Or is it worth the trouble? Thanks, Vitalius. P.S. Order of Operations for how I would go about doing it: Install Windows 8 to a VM. Update fully (including 8.1) Install Steam and other Programs. Customize everything to how I currently have it. Begin process to transfer it out of the VM. Install Drivers. (Note: This is how you would need to do it, since a VM uses the default drivers for the OS it is being hosted on.)

NAVIGATION v0.1 - First build - unnamed project - Parts ordered v0.1.1 - Some parts delivered, not a big update. Still waiting for the PSU and case! v0.1.2 - Mlacom is bad... Case not deliverable, PSU broken (sigh) v1.0 - Build completed and it works! [Timelapse Video included!!] I am finally building my PC! I have posted a few threads about what to get a few weeks ago and I have ordered some components on Friday, October 11th. Why? You may ask: "Why do you need this?". Well the answer is that I have YouTube channel where I upload gaming videos and such. I also like gaming in general so even when I'm not recording I need a strong PC. On the side I also do a lot of video editing, not only for YouTube but also for other projects. For now I'm going to school, but I will be finishing this year, so I want to have something powerful when I'm done with school so I can put all my energy into production. The programs I mostly use are: Adobe Permiere, Sony Vegas, Adobe Flash Professional, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop. I want to start some 3D animating soon. Video files take up a lot of space so I will try to get a lot of storage. Some stuff will be brought to me on USB3.0 external HDDs too, so I need those ports also. I also enjoy series and occasionally a movie. I want all my videos to be in 720p but that is not achievable yet as my 2TB drive is already full. For example, all 10 seasons of Friends take up 224GB in 720p. What? I'm going to get maximum I can for my budget. It started at €1.000 but I soon figured that won't be enough if I want to get everything I want. Everyone told me to get 4770K over 8350 + capture card, so I did. For now I wont be able to afford a graphics card yet so I'm going to stick with my old Sapphire HD5750 1GB. It's not a good card, but it will have to do for a few more months, until I have enough funds to grab 280X or 7970 (whichever will be cheaper). When? I have already ordered my parts (except for graphics card). I will also be getting more storage after I get my GPU and more funds. I don't have a job and I'm a senior at my high school (High school for design). I get 50€ per month which I try to save all/most from. I have to wait for my items to be delivered now, which will take 2-10 days. I have used two different stores so I hope everything will be okay. I initially ordered everything from one store but they didn't have stock and had some problems with delivering those items so I ordered the same thing in a different store. I am also getting my drivers license at the moment so I keep that money separate from PC funds but if there is gonna be some money left over when I get my license, I will use that for GPU/HDDs. LIST OF PARTS: ~> Green = Delivered | Plum = Waiting for part to be delivered (yellow is hard to see) | Red = Not ordered yet <~ CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K 3.5GHz [€318,42] MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP [€123,22] RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB 1600MHz CL9 (2x8GB Kit) [€140,30] HDD1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB [€90,28] HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB [€82,30 (pre-owned)] HDD3: WD Red 3TB HDD4: WD Red 3TB GPU1: AMD 270X / AMD 7950 / AMD 280X / AMD 7970 [Depends on funds...] SSD1: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB [€108,58] PSU: Corsair CX600M 600W [€74,71] Zalman ZM600-GT [€59,85] Case: Sharkoon T28 Red Edition [€66,50] Xigmatek Alfar [€44,14] TOTAL SO FAR: 884,79 + 82,30 + [$GPU] + [$HDDs] PART CHANGES!~ Apparently mlacom.si is #1 useless website on the world. I ordered the Sharkoon T28 case and CX600M and ten days later I sent them an email asking where are my components. (They said it would take maximum 10 days to deliver) They replied that their supplier doesn't even have the case yet, so they are waiting for their supplier to send them the case so they can send it to me. I do understand them being a small reseller that they can't afford to have everything on stock but not notifying me about the situation is absolutely credulous. If I weren't to send them the e-mail I'd probably never get the case or heads up about the situation. I had a few cases to chose from that were actually on stock and that weren't absolutely too expensive or complete crap. The only case that looked semi-okay was Xigmatek Alfar (black). I decided I don't want to wait for another week or two just to get my PC up and running so I just took that. Then I was at friends house cleaning and formating his and his brothers PCs when I get a call from Mlacom (at about 5.40P.M) that the PSU I ordered is there but the box is messed up and it's most likely all broken inside. I almost flipped my beans but decided not to freak out too much. They guy then said something about a different model if I want to have it shipped the same day so I'd get it ASAP. I though they'd give me the Corsair CX600 v2 (non-modular) so I just agreed with the seller. When I come home later I found a new reseed on my e-mail, where it said they actually gave me Zalman ZM600-GT. It's still 80+ Bronze so I though Okay, I'll just have that, it can't be that bad if it's 80+ Bronze. I have stated somewhere before that I did use a generic PSU (or whatever you call a LCPower 5550 PSU....) Now I just have to wait a few more days for the thing to actually arrive so I can finally start putting the things together. Explanation: CPU: I was told by most people on the forum that I should get 4770K over 8350 and capture card. I did. MoBo: I had to chose something cheaper. I wanted something better but this seemed like the best option. I also asked forum weather I should go with MSI Gaming series motherboard but most everyone told me to stick with Gigabyte. RAM: 16GB for video editing. Would go with something higher but it's just so expensive now-a-days. But hey.. RAM is RAM... HDDs: I already have 2TB Barracuda at home so I though I'd just RAID another one for now and then later get 2x3TB WD Red drives. My Barracuda is already full and I don't even have half the things I want on there... GPU: I won't be getting two GPUs because I just can't afford it. 280X/7970 should be enough for what I'm doing though. SSD: Seemed like the best option from what I had to chose. PSU*: Pretty basic PSU but still 80+ Bronze. I ran my last i7 machine on €30 PSU and had no problems, so I think this will be more then enough...... I hope...... Case*: I was looking for a cheap under €70 case that would have a window, cable management options and 90°c (lol not Celsius..) turned HDD bays so I can easily swap my drives. This case seems great for all of that, having 6x3.5" bays, 2x2.5" bays and I even get THREE red LED fans! This is a steal! I know that my motherboard is a bit blue, PSU and RAM a bit green and this is red, but I don't really care that much. I hope the fan LEDs will be strong enough to make it look nice. So I unfortunately don't have this case and PSU, but both are quite okay for now. I wont be putting my 2x2TB drives in RAID0 but will rather keep one as external (works fine with USB3.0 anyways) and will populate the remaining two HDD slots with 2x3TB WD RED drives. This case did come with two fans preinstalled so that's okay I have finally received everything and put the thing together. You can see the timelapse here:

The Steam Machine prototypes going out to 300 lucky beta participants have been detailed in a post in the Steam Universe group. Quick catch-up: Last week, Valve revealed SteamOS, a free Linux-based operating system for living room gaming, and announced that multiple hardware manufacturers will be selling SteamOS machines next year. But first, Valve is testing its own prototype with 300 systems. According to Valve's Greg Coomer, the 300 beta participants will receive one of the following builds: GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660 CPU: some boxes with Intel : i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3 RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB DDR5 (GPU) Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high These aren't necessarily the specs of the third-party systems being sold next year. "As we talked about last week, the Steam Machines available for sale next year will be made by a variety of companies," writes Coomer. "Some of those companies will be capable of meeting the demands of lots of Steam users very quickly, some will be more specialized and lower volume. The hardware specs of each of those machines will differ, in many cases substantially, from our prototype. "Valve didn't set out to create our own prototype hardware just for the sake of going it alone—we wanted to accomplish some specific design goals that in the past others weren't yet tackling. One of them was to combine high-end power with a living-room-friendly form factor. Another was to help us test living-room scenarios on a box that's as open as possible." The prototype isn't yet "finished enough" for a photo, says Coomer, but he teases upcoming details on SteamOS's streaming technology, which allows games to be streamed from a Windows PC to another PC running SteamOS, as well as the Steam Controller, Valve's custom solution for PC gaming on a couch.

Engadget got there hands on a prototype steam machine: http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/04/valve-steam-machine-hands-on/ The picture i'm most interested in: ;p I really think this could be big for PC gaming. But still I don't see me buying one... what do you think ? Config of this machine: GPU: GTX780 mobo: Asrock Z87E-ITX CPU: Intel I7 Storage: 2.5" HDD Reactions: +Bring console gamers to PC +Nice and small -Very rough design -With this config, expensive. -Only room for one SSD/HDD (maybe mini PCIe SSD?)

Need input on a cheap gaming build for my nephew.
Vitalius posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I'm planning a build for my nephew that needs to be able to do 1080p medium-very high gaming (depending on the game) at 35-60+FPS. Considerations: Used is fine as long as it's not from some random guy who I can't trust. Ebay trusted sellers are acceptable for example. Max Budget is $375 including shipping (not tax). I already own peripherals, an OS, a case and a monitor. Future proofing is irrelevant imo as this is so cheap that I don't see it as worth the money/time/effort honestly. The two CPUs are because I'm conflicted about choosing between quad core or dual core. I'm not sure if the benefit would be worth it. Also, I have ECC RAM listed there because the motherboard & CPU support it and it's the cheapest set of 2x2GB RAM I can get. This means I can one day use this as a weak File Server if I wish. -
How to Learn Linux Networking
skullbringer posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
I am 17 and I recently applied for a job as an IT-Systems technician. The company I am going to most likely work for does a lot of the Network Administration for Audi (car manufacteuirer, just to clarify) in Ingolstadt, Germany. From what they told me, they are working a lot with OSX for production workstations and a lot of Linux for Networking and Servers. So I guess I should "learn" Linux or at least get to know the basics. So here comes my question: What would you recommend to learn Linux? Should I just download VMware and make myself a little Linux-desktop vm, or are there special applications / structures in Linux networking that I dont have on the standard deskop version (ubuntu)? Thx -
Most bizzare name for game in history - Amnesia: A machine for pigs
Guest posted a topic in General Discussion
Yes people, if your monitor supports resolution that has capability of reading this long title you know that I'm talking about a new Amnesia and its title is: PEOPLE HERE WE GO: Machine for pigs, and i think this is the most bizzare name for game in the whole history of human kind. The series was going to drop but original makers of game: Frictional Games studio met a guy from TheChineseRoom called Dan Pinchbeck and they together wanted to rise the game up once again, but Frictional didn't have time for that and TheChineseRoom themselves without original makers made the game. Protagonist is Oswald Mandus who has came back from Mexico from expedicion that went very wrong. He comes back very sick and has weird dream about a dark machine. The story itself is happening in 1899. Oh, i am already getting old now! And that is even 60 years later from the original, thanks, now i feel even older now. Game was already sold in 1.5 million copies and it got two prizes on Independent Games festival. Awesome, isn't it? If you don't know what Amnesia is, it is a survival horror game from first person and Pewdiepie plays it a lot, and i dont think he won't do the same for this Amnesia. :) And here are some links for you people :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_9IyBzbyWQ#at=50
