A friend of mine has left over mobo that he is willing to hook me up with. Its a asus z170-e board that I am thinking of slapping an i7 on to build a rig. I am wondering, however, if it would be better to get the 6700k or 7700k in this instace. On amazon there is a 30 dollar difference, basically is the increase in performance even worth dealing with updating the bios and the 30 dollars? As a follow up does that asus board allow flashing without a compatible cpu?

source: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4012982/discusses-an-issue-in-which-you-receive-a-your-pc-uses-a-processor-tha this is seriously fucked up! MS is now actively blocking updates when it detects: Intel seventh (7th)-generation processors or later AMD “Bristol Ridge” or later Qualcomm “8996" or later MS doing everything in their bag of shitty tricks to stop people from using W7/8/8.1

What is your thoughts about locking out windows updates from Windows 7 and 8 on Ryzen and Kaby Lake cpu's. I saw this on another forum and it bothered me about microsoft pushing windows 10 onto people.

Hi guys, So my old system died from a motherboard fault so upgrade time. Tossing up between the Ryzen 1700 and the i5 7600k as I can get them to $20 within each other. Decided against the i7 7700k as it's another $150 AUD which I can't spare for the time being and I want this system up in time for Mass Effect Andromeda. I currently use the machine for gaming at 1440p 60hz paired with an R9 390 and will use it for Mass Effect Andromeda, Cities Skylines and other games. I also do a fair amount of photo editing. When I looked up the performance benchmarks I could only find comparisons between the 1800x and the i7 7700k for photo editing and none for cities skylines so I'm hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. I will also OC whatever one I get, either with an old AIO I have for the i5 or the Wraith Spire cooler with the 1700. Looking to pull the trigger on an order of CPU/RAM/Mobo for the i5 at $675 AUD or for the 1700 at $695 AUD. Buying in Australia if that helps.

Should i build a pc with a pentium g4560 and later (when i have money) upgrade to other kaby lake processor or just wait? Sorry for bad english btw

I am looking to upgrade from my FX-8350. Im looking at either the 7700k or the 1700x. My issue is, I speedrun dishonored and for the of the tricks in the run, you need to maintain a very high framerate (190+ FPS). I also stream and locally record while doing runs. I know that the overall gaming performance of the 7700k is better, but I also know that the 1700x would have an easier time streaming/recording. If I want to stream 720p@30 and record 1080p@60, while not having frames suffer to drasticall, should i get the 7700k or the 1700x? (keep in mind that my fx-8350 can keep these framerates while streaming, but just barely, although I cant locally record with the fx CPU)

Hi guys, I recently got my hands on an i5 7600k, and without any modification with software / bios (just XMP is on). My voltages look a bit high (rightmost is MAX), is this normal? There is no particular load just standard day to day tasks. What are your views? Regards, Kelv

So I am currently saving up to buy a new cpu, motherboard and ram(I already bought a gtx 1060 6gb). I am having a hard time deciding between motherboards because I am on a budget, so i don´t want to spend a lot of money on a z270. I am not meaning to spend more then 120$ on a motherboard (I will probably go for a i5 7600k). But I know that some z170´s don´t support Kaby lake yet. I am deciding between these: - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Motherboards/ASRock-Z170-EXTREME4-Extreme4-Skylake-ATX-Motherboard/B012D7HBTA/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1488040273&sr=1-2&keywords=Z170 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/AsRock-Z170-Pro4-Skylake-Motherboard-x/dp/B012D7GBZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488040148&sr=8-1&keywords=ASROCK+Z170+Pro4 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Z170-GAMING-Socket-Express-Motherboard/dp/B01AUSEBHE/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1488040273&sr=1-1&keywords=Z170 I think you can uptade the BIOS on the gigabyte mobo without a cpu(q-flash), but I am not complety sure. And I don´t know if you can do the same on the Asrock ones. I don´t have a Skylake cpu. If you have suggestions for any other motherboards please link them.

So I have an interesting problem. I built my PC 3 years ago. At the time of building i equipped my PC with 8GB or RAM and an i5 4690k. At a later date I upgraded to 16GB of RAM from klevv (llike its really good RAM at 2400MHz). However nowadays I need an i7 for running simulations and for battlefield 1. I seem to be getting fps drops in that and often when running simulations for businesses i experience hangs. I was gifted an MSI phantom laptop equpped with an i7 so I've been using that but I would like to use my pc for more than word proccessing and simple stuff. The problem I have is I need an i7 but should I: a) get an i7 4790k which is still priced at £300 in the UK for a new one or around £250 for a second hand one that I trust b) get an i7 6700k which is around £280 and will require me to buy a new mobo for around £90 (I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA z170 HD3 DDR3) with DDR3 support which will mean reduced features compared to my MSI z97 gaming 7. Or get one with DDR4 at a higher cost for new RAM as well c) get an i7 7700k which is £329 and a new mobo and new RAM also I'm running windows 8 and apparently kaby lake doesnt support that so.... I'll need windows 10 which is something I dont want. Like AT ALL options b) and and c) will cost more, but is more worth it in the long run. Also I have windows 10 on my laptop I HATE IT!!!! Also theres the issue of all of this extra hardware I'll have lying around. I still have the original 8GB of RAM that I replaced. I do want to build something like a media PC but thats nowhere in the near future

Hey guys I need some advice! I currently have an i5-6500 and have the opportunity to upgrade my cpu at relatively low cost. But was wondering if it is worth spending the extra to get a 7700k instead of a 6700k, I will be overclocking it on a Z170 Pro gaming (as long as the 7700k is able to be overclocked on a Z170 board if not decision made) Specs: Asus Z170 pro gaming 16gb corsair vengeance ddr4 Custom water cooling loop Cheers for you help!

First of all, hi everyone and thanks in advance, my name is Marco and I decided to build the second computer of my life and I'm having a question about CPU temperatures. Here are the specs, so that I can explain better later on: Case: Fractal Design Node 202 with Integra 450W PSU; Motherboard: Gigabyte Ga-H270N-WiFi; CPU: Intel i5-7500; CPU Cooler: Cryorig C7; RAM: 1x8GB Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4; SSD: Crucial MX300 M.2 Sata, 275GB; HDD: Hitachi Travelstar 1TB 2.5 7200RPM; Graphics Card: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Windforce Fans: Two Fractal Design 120mm PWM fans. Sorry I can't remember the name. I think that's all. So now, I want to describe the "problem" that I have. I'm having higher CPU temps than I was expecting with an aftermarket CPU Cooler. AIDA64, at idle, gives me a reading of around 34°C (about 93° F). Now, I know that this is not that bad and I know that the case is actually really small so temps can be tricky to handle, but, still, given that I have something like 20°C (68° F) in my room I think that it's too high. I checked the CPU Cooler and it's not moving or anything (of course the fan is moving, I mean the actual cooler is sitting still over the CPU) and I think I applied the right quantity of thermal paste (the one provided by the CPU Cooler). Cable management is as good as it can be in such a tiny case. I tried to run AIDA64 stress test for 10 minutes and the max temperature that I got was 57°C (134°F). That, again, is not disastrous, but higher than what I was expecting. GPU temps are actually pretty good, so no problem there. Is there anyone that can explain such readings? Am i being paranoid for no reason? Sorry if I made any mistake but I'm actually Italian, so my English might be not perfect. If this is a silly question I'm sorry. Thanks again, I hope someone can give me an advice.

Hi, I just finished building my first PC and it doesn't work. Apparently I need to upgrade the BIOS, but I thought I did not need a processor to do that. It just won't turn on with our without processor. How can I make it work? Flash the BIOS with a USB key? Here is my config: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($59.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: Asus B150I PRO GAMING/WIFI/AURA Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard ($122.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($65.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 960 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($129.99 @ B&H) Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Mini Video Card ($138.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX Tower Case ($42.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: Cooler Master GM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Total: $560.94

Hey guys, so its been about a week since I did my build and I noticed that while I'm gaming (GTA 5) my CPU temps go up to about 60C with only about 25% utilization which I feel is a bit hot because the cooler I have is a H100i v2 what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

So, what is your opinion on the Kaby Lake microarchitecture, do you think it's worth and upgrade from last year's Skylake? Personally, I would get a Kaby Lake CPU only if I was building a system entirely from scratch, the performance improvements is simply too little to justify an upgrade from a Skylake CPU in my opinion.

So question...I just built a new computer i7 7700, msi H110M, RX480, 16GB RAM It turns on but there's no display... all power has been triple checked (4 pin and atx) and no beep codes. I'm guessing it's the bios version since it's a brand new processor, but you can't update the bios if there's no display... I've checked the MSI website to make sure that the processor is compatible already. I tried both onboard hdmi (removed the video card as well) and the RX480. Tried one RAM stick at a time Any ideas would be appreciated ?

NB! I've made the purchase so no further conversations needed I already have a gaming PC, which i got 1 1/2 years ago, but i wanted to keep it and build a mor eballer mITX Rig, which is relatively portable. I live in Norway so what i can choose from is more limited due to smaller retailers. But id like to hear second opinions on the build before i press the purchase button. so i am planning my new pc build and i wanted to get some opinions on motherboards for kaby lake, and nvme ssd performance. the list so far is https://pcpartpicker.com/user/hellspaw3200/saved/HrqBmG i want to keep the processor, the 960 pro ssd, and the video card. everything else is open, obviously i want to get a overclocking motherboard, and i am planning on doing watercooling. For ease of help. i am in the us, so usd is my currency I want to spend around 2000 to 2500 dollars on the actual pc, the watercooling is already accounted for. the pc is going to be for video making, gaming all kinds from minecraft to crysis 3, some programming, and lite 3d work. i want to use 3 monitors eventually but 2 i think i wanna get 1440p monitors at 120hz i will be using a nice mechanical gaming keyboard, and gaming mouse, already selected. and i am upgrading because i am running a 2009 craptop

So I've just got my new rig built constructed of half new and half old parts, everything boots up properly. I checked my Corsair Link and Speccy to see my CPU temps and neither are recording any at all... I'm running an i7 7700K w/Corsair h100i. The pump and it's LED plus the fans are working but I'm not seeing any temps at all. Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be?
