Just started a new build this morning and got to the early stage where I had enough set up to fire her up and see if she posted (she did). Issue was, I was getting no signal from the DVI port on the motherboard. HDMI and VGA, no problem. Motherboard is a Asus Prime H310M-A. The DVI cable I was using to test was DVI-D Single Link, where as the motherboard connector was Dual Link - could this be an issue?. I've also since realised that the H310 chipset only supports two displays - could this be the reason? If so, surely that wouldn't just mean that one of the output connectors is just 'dead'?? (I wasn't testing all three outputs at the same time) Any advice would be gratefully received

Hey guys. As someone saw my post i was switching my dead GPU to new GPU and i will be switching to same GPU and that is r9 270. I had MSI R9 270 and i bought used R9 270 Powercolor. Okay so the guy told me that he was using that card and that its working in his home . I didnt tested in his place but yeah. I saw him bring the card and he was really gentle and he packed everything cool and the card really looks in awesome condition with even crossfire protection on her (screws intact too). So i plug her in my PC and it gives no screen, black screen. He is sleeping now but i remembered that he sad to me that he was using HDMI cable only not DVI-D to VGA adapter like me, so maybe thats the case my card wont boot and it gives black screen? To add my ex card which is dying still shows screen (but with artifacts since she is dying and driver wont work) with same DVI-D to VGA adapter , but this card wont work. I dont think guy is scam because he told me call me if something is not right and i will gave you back money and similar. Even on box that he gave me with the card i can see his adress where he lives and his name and even phone number because he bought new card and box was XFX RX580 4GB. So my guess maybe DVI port dont work on card , faulty? Maybe i should try HDMI to VGA adapter what you guys think could be the problem?

Hi, I was planning on purchasing the MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER and after looking at it's specs, I realised it only supports Display Ports and HDMI. My problem is my BenQ ZOWIE XL2411 monitor doesn't have a Display Port slot. So is there any RTX cards that support DVI? Because apparently the DVI to Display port adapters are too expensive and most of them don't even offer 144hz. Thanks

Hello. I come to you in a time of need. At my workplace we've been tasked to specifically work with an older 3D monitor (Acer gn246hl) and a Quadro RTX 4000. The issue (Aside from the deprecated technology) right now is, the quadro only has Display Port outputs (and a usb C) , while the monitor only wants DVI-D 24+1 as input for the 3D to work. We've tried an adapter but it did not work, as it capped at 120hz at 720p. We've now found out that we may need an ACTIVE adapter for the 144hz at 1080p to work. The issue is, I cannot find any such adapters in my country (I need it asap) , but I do find Active adapters for Display Port to DVI-D 24+5. My question is , can I plug a DVI-D 24+1 male connector into a DVI-D 24+5 female connector? or is that love forbidden. If not, then do you have any other ideas of how we could make this monitor + gpu pairing work with the 3D ? Thank you.

I just got an active Display port to DVI adapter for my monitor because My graphics card only has Display Port and HDMI and my Monitor has VGA HDMI and DVI. My old PC had a graphics card that had DVI so I could get 144hz on my monitor no problem but HDMI doesn't allow it. I plug the Display port to DVI into my computer and monitor and try upping the refresh rate, I'm able to do it but something pops up on my monitor saying "incorrect cable please use the dvi dual-link that came with your monitor" I have the Acer GN246HL monitor and GTX 1660Ti graphics card

I would like to connect my GPU and Amazon TV Stick to my monitor. Unfortunately, my monitor only has one x1 HDMI and x1 VGA port. VGA is no good because I have a widescreen resolution. Could I use some kind of HDMI splitter for this? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I've just switched from HDMI to VGA using DVI to VGA adaptor. My monitor resolution is 1920 x 1080, but now there's a back bar at the right side of the screen. I can also see vertical stripes down the screen. Any ideas of how to fix this? My graphics card: EVGA GTX 1050 TI SC

I just installed my RTX 2070 in my pc and I got myself an active DisplayPort to DVI adapter because my monitor, a BENQ XL2411, only takes DVI and HDMI. Since I want 144hz to work on this monitor, I could not use the HDMI port. Now the problem is that the control panel detects my Display port as HDMI and does not alow me to set the refresh rate higher (exept if I got to a lower resolution like 800x600) Here is my adapter: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004SUO1GM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My previous graphics card was a GTX 780 and I was connectiong the DVI with the same cable and I could use the 144hz capability. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am wanting to get an oculus rift but I have a few problems. I have an 'MSI Trident 3'. I want to be able to use my monitor and oculus at the same time but the problem is that I don't have enough working hdmi ports. My PC has a display port and a dvi-d port. I therefore want to get an adapter so I can plug the hdmi lead from my monitor into either the dp or the dvi port. I am wondering what adapter I should get in order to not loose resolution or anything on my monitor (my monitor is 2560x1080 90Hz). Even better if anyone knows how to do this as it will save me some money...my pc has a total of 4 hdmi ports (1 on the graphics card. 1 on the front of the computer. 2 on the back). I want to plug my oculus into the hdmi port on the front to avoid wires getting tangles etc. In order to do this I have to plug the graphics card hdmi slot into the other hdmi slot on the back labeled "vr link". This then activates the hdmi slot on the front. This leaves 1 more hdmi slot that I thought I could plug my monitor into but when I tried it didnt work. I am guessing this one is plugged into the motherboard. I did some research and have gone into BIOS to see if I can activate the port but I can't seem to find any option that activates it. I will be very grateful if someone could solve this.

Hi guys! This is my first time around here, and I would like to ask for some help! Today I changed my old config, for a new desktop PC, and I would like to use my old monitor with the new PC. With the old PC, my monitor (which is an ancient LG Flatron W1934S, with only D-SUB, VGA connector) went into "power saving mode" as I turned off the PC or it went to sleep, if it was idle. In the old PC the mointor was hooked up directly to the VGA port of my GTX 650. So, today I fired up the new PC, and connected it to the monitor. All were good, but here comes the annoying problem. I have a Quadro 2000 in the new PC, and the display is connected through a DVI-VGA adaptor. I have image, and I can even set the native res of the display, but as soon as I turn off the new PC, or the display goes to 'sleep' when idle, the monitor doesn't go to "power saving mode", rather it has a moving text of "check signal cable". The problem is, that this way the monitor never turns off, and this message is very annoying! I would like to ask for the help of the great LinusTechTips community, to help me sort it out, whether somehow I can setup the Quadro 2000 also, to send the monitor to this "power saving mode" rather than to this "check signal cable" state... Now I use the i5's iGPU, with the mobo's VGA port, and it works like it has to, it sends the monitor to "power saving mode" if it's needed. Also, with an other monitor I tested the Quadro 2000, with the same DVI-VGA adaptor, and it sends that display to power saving mode... I utilized 2 different VGA-VGA cable, with the 2 monitors, does it matter? Thanks for any help in advance!

Hi, I am looking at upgrading to a RX 5700XT however I have ran into a issue I may have. How would I go about adapting Display Port to and older DVI only 144hz monitor? I have tried an cheap adaptor on my GTX 680 but it only shows up as 60hz... I know the DVI cable is dual link and capable of 144hz as I use it natively via the 680s DVI port. I assume I need a better adaptor? any help appreciated

hello everyone, 4 days back i had this issue with my GPU (gtx 780 ti), i'm using a dvi-i to vga adapter (yes i know it's not the 20th century anymore) connected to my asus VW193T monitor and i tried to turn it on that morning but the screen didn't detect it, i thought the problem was that the adapter broke, but I've tried it with an old quadro 2000 and it worked just fine, then i thought that the graphics card was dead, but when i hooked it up to my tv over hdmi it worked perfectly, display port worked as well, i run games and all seemed to work great, so then the dvi-i port was clearly the problem, fortunately my monitor has a dvi-d port, my question to you guys is if dvi-i and dvi-d are related, in other words, if dvi-i port died then automatically the dvi-d is dead as well considering they are really close to each other, also, is there a way to know if dvi-i port is damaged physically or its just a software issue. thank you

I bought a pretty old BenQ monitor (XL2411T 2012) that can run 120hz and maybe even 144hz? The guy who sent me the monitor only game me a HDMI cable which does not allow me to reach anything above 60hz, so I used my own DVI cable (Yes its dual link) and all I get is a distorted and blurry screen on anything above 60hz with a message that says "Use the DVI Dual link cable that came with the monitor" can anyone recommend me a DVI cable that will work? I've read that CPO, BENFEI, Cable Matters and AmazonBasics DVI Cables work but some reviews say otherwise, please I really need help TL;DR: What DVI Cable should I get for my XL2411T? (Don't have DisplayPort)

I have two Monitor at my Desk. The primary Monitor is plugged in over DVI and my second one is over HDMI. Now i wanna get rid of my second one but everytime i unplug the HDMI cable nomatter if from the Monitor or the GPU my primary Monitor goes black. In the Bios everything is ok. Works over 15 min. I deinstalled the Drivers in safemode with DDU, installed newest Drivers for my R9 290X and as soon as i restart my PC and log in the same thing happens if the HDMI cable isn't plugged in for the secondary Monitor. I flashed the gpu Bios but still the same Problem. Does anybody have any Idea how to fix this Issue? I need the second Monitor for another Project and i also need more space on my Desk. Reinstalling Windows is not an option.
