As the title suggests, is it possible to upgrade the RAM in the ASUS X551MAV-EB01-B from 4GB to 8GB? I have searched the internet for an answer to this question, but the ones I found seem to contradict each other. I will list the places I found my info below in separate sections. Specs: https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/X551MAV/specifications/ (Notice how ASUS doesn't mention a 4GB RAM Max capacity anywhere on the spec sheet) https://www.asus.com/Laptops/X551MAV/specifications/ (This does state the 4GB limit, but it also has different yet similar specs for having the same model #) Cannot Upgrade RAM: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231876 (Under Specs) http://www.microcenter.com/product/438199/x551mav-eb01-b_156_laptop_computer_-_black (Under Specs) http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASUS/x551mav https://www.amazon.com/forum/-/Tx3ELV5XYE4JVPY/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza?asin=B00SV72ZA2 (This is the Asus X551MAV-EB01-B(S), but it looks the same and has the same specs as the non-S varient) https://www.amazon.com/does-support-upgrade-8GB-RAM/forum/Fx2GPKOZFEQDRKU/Tx3VFXJDMF4FL58/1?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00SV72ZA2 (Same note as 4) Can Upgrade RAM: https://www.amazon.com/Asus-X551MAV-EB01-B-15-6-Inch-Dual-Core-Processor/product-reviews/B00SV72ZA2/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_search_rgt?filterByKeyword=8gb&search-alias=community-reviews#reviews-filter-bar (Some claim to have upgraded; this is the Asus X551MAV-EB01-B(S), but it looks the same and has the same specs as the non-S varient) https://www.amazon.com/15-6-inch-Celeron-2-16GHz-Processor-Windows/product-reviews/B00L49X8E6/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_search_rgt?filterByKeyword=8GB&search-alias=community-reviews#reviews-filter-bar (Some claim to have upgraded; some of the specs on this listing are incorrect) https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computers-Accessories/8GB-memory-Asus-X551MAV-EB01-B-DDR3-DIMM-1600MHz/B01LTD7CVQ (Claims to be an upgrade, but it looks shady) Thoughts? Have any of you owned and/or successfully upgraded the RAM on an ASUS X551MAV-EB01-B? Is so, I would appreciate any help and pointers as to what memory modules are compatible! UPDATE: I was able to find a local guy on Craigslist who gave me a deal on a 16GB Kit (2x8GB) of DDR3L RAM for $60. He let me test the RAM to make sure it worked with my system before money changed hands. I can now confirm that the ASUS X551MAV-EB01-B can support 8GB of RAM or, at the very least, that it can support the specific 8GB RAM module I have inside the laptop. I also did an hour stress test in Prime 95 (I didn't have any free flash drives or a DVD drive in my laptop for MemTest86). Pics below:

I was wondering since its still isn't really clear if 16GB is completely off the table, 4k uses higher res textures right? wouldn't it get bottle necked by the vram? would be pretty sad if it could push 60fps at 4k but had a lot of stutters because of the limited vram.

I am getting a Surface Pro 4 for school, but I can't decide between the 4gb and 8gb RAM model. Is the extra storage and upgraded ram worth the extra premium you have to pay, keeping in mind that I will be using it predominantly for school word processing and content consumption? I won't be doing any editing, light gaming at most (CS GO, Civ, etc). I can go for the higher price, but only if absolutely necessary. I will also be getting the type cover regardless of which model I buy. Can the 4gb model hold its own in performance, and at least for a couple of years down the road as well? The extra storage is really just an added bonus, because I can get an external hard drive if it really comes down to it. Thanks!

So I'm going to upgrade my CPU, motherboard and RAM in about a month and those are the parts I chose that fit my budget well (Polish prices are really bad ) alongside my current ones and the rest which won't be upgraded: CPU: i5 2400 -> Ryzen 5 1600 RAM: G.Skill Ripjawx 2x4GB 2400MHz -> idk, thats the topic MOBO: Dell 0gdg8y (from the prebuild this rig is based on) -> MSI B350M GAMING PRO SSD: Crucial BX100 256GB HDD: WD Caviar Blue 7200RPM 500GB (from prebuild) GPU: MSI GTX 960 OC (the white non gaming one) And here's the dilemma: I have to upgrade the RAM and I was hitting the ceiling of 8GB recently and am thinking of going for 16GB but here's the thing. Ryzen (and Ryzen 5 with it) greatly benefits from higher clocked memory due to infinity fabric tech. And I don't know if (because of my budget ~1800PLN = 489USD but remember prices are larger in Poland so for example R5 1600 is 999PLN = 266USD and the mobo i chose is 339PLN = 90USD) I should go for super highly clocked 8GB or opt for the cheapest 2400MHz 16GB. If someone can help me and tell me exact model look somewhere in crucial and goodram kits because they are practically the same in pricing as in the US, but you can just tell me which option would be better for my rig and are the higher clocks on RAM worth in mid range ryzen CPUs combined with my GPY and usecase. My usecase for the rig is almost entirely Overwatch but I like to use chrome or opera alongside it watching yt. I'm really looking for some cores in R5 1600, because I like to cut some .mp4 videos once in a while.

How good would a Ryzen 5 1600 and a RX 480 8GB perform with 16 GB of ram at 1080p and 1440p in AAA games.

Hi guys, I´m building my first gaming pc and thanks to the advises I got yesterday I decided to take the Intel Core i5-6500 as my CPU. Now it was time to choose the memory and after I did some research I came to the conclusion that 8GB of Ram is enough and that speed doesn´t matter much (correct me if I´m wrong). But even though I have these vague ideas I really don´t know what to buy. Should I get rather 2x4GB (I heard this would be better) or 1x8GB (for better upradability)? How much do brands matter and which brands are good? The best would be if you could tell me what things are best for it´s price right now. Looking forward to your answers, Joiner

Do I need more than 8GB RAM? I am asking in reference to 21:9 gaming, max 3440x1440 60fps or 2560x1080 160Hz - those are the most extreme graphical settings I'll be going at. My games can vary. Currently I'm playing through AC series, starting with 1. Besides that, I play classics and new games as well. Through from Bioshock to possibly Battlefield 1. As I understand, increased graphical demand only increases tax on the GPU and the CPU? Is this true or am I mistaken? My RAM and the RAM I'll be purchasing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-FURY-DDR3-Memory-Module/dp/B00J8E90I2/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1479774211&sr=1-6&keywords=8gb+ram I do also use Virtual Machines - quite a lot and my usage will only be increasing. I'll be deciding how much I'll be using separately but I first want to know whether 8GB is still enough or if I should be going up to 16gb - might go for 24GB total (a new 16GB - 2x8GB) if the sticks are on sale over or after Christmas.

I'm a console peasant as of the moment and I'm buying a gaming pc this christmas with a core i5-6500 and a gpu of ??? well. That is why I'm here I need your help I've been earning money for a long time and have been researching for months but I still can't decide between an RX 480 or a GTX 1060. This is my first ever pc build so please guide me, I don't plan to be overclocking in ANY way. I know that the 1060 seems to be more powerful than the rx 480 but the rx 480 seems to be better suited for the future. Ok so heres what I want, Something that won't break easily and will last really long I mean its really hard to earn this much money for this build I don't want to be upgrading anytime soon I still want to be enjoying my latest AAA games in 60fps for the next 6-7 years..Lot's of people say AMD cards and cpus heat up alot but. Well I won't overclock so I don't get the point of my possible AMD card heating up. Jayztwocents did a review of a GTR XFX RX 480 8GB and it cooled around 60 degrees C.But alot of people keep going for the green team cause of the better power and higher framerates. So please help me with my decision on picking between the GTX 1060 and RX 480 please also include why you picked the card and how it will benefit me. Thank you so much in advance to all! (I'm not biased on either the AMD or Nvidia I just want to have the best experience I can have for the longest time possible thats why I came to you guys for help on deciding)

I purchased a couple of used RX 570's on Ebay for a couple of builds I'm working on for a husband and wife. The first one that I bought was advertised as an 4GB variant and that's what I paid for. To the PC, it appears as a 4GB model, but the stickers on the card say "SAPPHIRE PULSE RADEON RX570 8G DDR5" which doesn't match the more recent RX 570 that I received from another seller. Is it possible that the previous owner or maybe someone else flashed an 8GB card to appear as a 4GB model? I'm going to tear it apart and reapply thermal paste. Is there anything I should be looking for to confirm my theory? I'm very inexperienced with GPU teardowns and components.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and just tech forums in general. I'm planning to upgrade to a Ryzen CPU sometime in the near future depending on when Ryzen 3000 launches in Malaysia although I know quite a bunch of AMD chips are actually made here. Currently I'm running an Intel i5 skylake processor with a H110m-D with a pair of Klevv Bolt DDR4 2400mhz 8gb x 2 CLOCKED at 2133mhz due mobo limitations. In the future I would like to run at higher clockspeeds then the ones I have now. So my question is Is it possible say to overclock different ram speeds together? Here are two possibilities I'm considering. 1. Say for instance my current pair I managed to get a stable overclock at 3000mhz with loose timings and 1.35v. Is it possible to go out and buy another pair of 3000mhz? Should I consider the timings of the second pair as well? 2. A second scenario would be if for instance if I got a second pair of Ddr4 2666mhz and overclock those together with my previous 2400mhz to 3000mhz? Again this is assuming the current pair is stable at 3000mhz. Is that actually possible? I've been scouring the net these past few days and so far can't find an answer. Now my questions above of course heavily relies on the fact my current can actually overclock up to 3000mhz. Well on an amd motherboard a friend of mine managed up to 2900mhz without changing the voltage at 1.2v or the timings so fingers crossed it can reach 3000mhz just by pushing the voltage up a bit. So are those two scenarios possible?

So I just recently build myself my first PC and I have had sooooooooooooooooo many problems with it. First windows was not downloading to the USB then windows not downloading to PC then windows blue screening for absolutely no reason and now whenever I try to enable X.M.P. mode on my G.Skill Ripjawz 3200Mhz ( I think it's this one... maybe CL15 tho https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX59299) windows will boot then after a few minutes, blue screen with no error code for me to try to fix. As soon as I turn XMP off however, my PC starts working fine. Any Ideas? I will be trying to manually oc it but hoping this awesome comunity could help me out. Just wondering bc in a lot of other posts about XMP they always say something to the lines of "do you have the correct XMP profile selected" or what not but when I go to enable it, I only see one profile. Is this of any consequence? Edit: Mem is the CL16, I was wrong, sorry. Update: brought voltage up to 1.4V, forgot to set up fan speed when I installed them so I fixed that. and My PC is not blue screening at 3000Mhz. at 3200Mhz it still blue screens is this still an ok oc? Or should I be trying to get all 3200Mhz advertised speed? Update 2: RESOLVED

My problem is that when i play for example battlefield 1 on ultra 1080p i get only like 70fps while my friend with i5 7gen/ 16ram /1060 6gb gets more than 120fps. What is wrong with my build is it makes me feel so dumb that i wasted so much money. It happens in all games. Like league of legends, state of decay, need for speed payback, total war etc. Is it possible that 8gb ram is not enough becuase everyone in internet says that 8gb for 2019 is just perfect no games need that much. Also in benchmarks i get lower results that avarage 1070ti and r7 users. It really worries me cuz ive always wanted a good pc and i worked alot to get the money.

Hi, i have a Ryzen 5 2600 with a 1060 6gb and 8GB ddr4 2400 hyperx ram. Ive noticed whilst playing a lot of games i get above 60 fps and i seem to get quite frequent fps drops. this also occurs with chrome and the os itself like a stuttering effect. Thinking the only 2 upgrades that i could really do is upgrade to 16 gb and buy a 240gb ssd. do you think this will solve the problem? if not what do you think is causing it. Also how will i be able to move just the OS from the HDD to the SSD without all the files because obviously it has a smaller capacity. P.S. the parts come today

So basically I have one stick of 8gb ram running single channel on a z270 motherboard. I want to buy another 8gb stick so that they can run dual channel at 16 GB. Can someone link me a ram stick preferably from Amazon that will do the trick? The ram config is in the image below from cpuz.https://imgur.com/a/CS3gMSV

So my pc has an FX-6300 cpu overclocked at 4.2 Ghz, 8GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3 ram, and an rx 560 4gb for my gpu. I have a little bit of money and i can either get a better cpu cooler (im using the black edition cooler) and 8gb more ram, or i can get an fx-8350. what do you guys recommend for gaming? And before you say save for a ryzen or something like that, yes i know that FX series is an old chip but its all i could afford and i dont need the best thing on the market. I just want to know if I would benefit more from overclocking my cpu more and with more ram or if getting an fx-8350 would benefit more in games. ( im mainly talking about destiny 2 here)

I've tested my ram in userbenchmark. it shows same there, 2133mhz. if anyone can explain and relief me. any help would be so much appreciated.

Hey everyone, so this weekend I finally did my cooler upgrade, which I unfortunately attempted to do it myself and going off of what I saw from Enermax, and my lack of ever having installed a cooler on my own, I followed the enermax video which showed the MOBO being out of the chassis before they installed it, so I did that, and in between taking out my Graphics Card on Friday and my computer guy fixing my PC on Saturday night it stopped working or maybe it was from my attempt to pull it out. So luckily he found me the same card (A Power Color Red Dragon RX580) but in the 4GB model, so I'm of course looking to get back up to snuff. However I'd like something possibly not PowerColor. I'd like to keep it to AMD graphics but if there is a good Nvidia solution I'd also be interested. I need it to support DVI-D (I think that's the one), Display Port, and HDMI so I can keep my 3 monitors. I'm looking to spend under 200.00.

I currently have the Radeon Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 8GB GPU. It still runs very well and I am using all of the ports on it for 4 monitors. I shouldn't need to upgrade for another year or two, but I'm not sure what to start looking for in a new GPU. This card starts to struggle with more than 2 videos playing, granted there are 4 monitors going. All games run smooth and at a decent FPS. Any suggestions or tips as to what I should be looking for in a new GPU? I still want to run 4 monitors. I usually have 2-3 instances of Minecraft running (I am an admin on a server and have 2 accounts on it, plus one more on my personal server). One monitor us usually dedicated to Discord, 2 usually have Minecraft on them, and the other is for videos. EDIT: Forgot to mention my monitors. Main display: Asus Acer Gaming Monitor 27” Curved ED273 Secondary display: Samsung 24" 1080p monitor Third display: Sceptre 24" tv Fourth display: Hisense 4k 43" tv Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
