  1. sorry for the late reply, I'll have a look at that page hopefully it will give me some pointers, it might be safer to go with a compatible even if its trashy WXGA. Only thing is trying to find someone who will sell it down under.
  2. Been looking at trying to fix an Alienware 13 R2, the specs of it is pretty meh... to say the least. after my cousin gave me the laptop while overseas to repair it, the battery was cooked after it expanded in the chassis and I got no clue how I managed to get it back home. I immediately got a new battery for the laptop and now trying to boot it the laptop will give out 8 beeps pointing to a bad screen. i5 6200U - GTX 960M - 1x8GB DDR3L RAM - and some garbage HDD - 1366x768 WXGA HD screen TN Panel. that HDD is going straight into the bin for an SATA SSD I might consider liquid metal on the cpu and gpu should it work it might be a longshot but has anyone upgraded from the crappy screen to the Full HD IPS panel?
  3. I've been looking around the place at a few PC shops, I spotted these 2 MSI Laptops GS65 Stealth 8SF-052AU with a RTX 2070 and 512GB Storage, slightly older i7 8750H for AUD$3K. GS65 Stealth 8SE-053AU with a RTX 2060 with only 256GB Storage, slightly older i7 8750H for AUD$2.8K. I like that they have good IPS Screens, don't care much for high refresh rates as I'll never be any good at competitive shooters. Plus I can easily expand storage to them with the extra M.2 Slot. With the XPS 15 7590 the main difference is the GPU much lower than these 2. What do you think of these options?
  4. I guess, but the XPS15 9570 maxes out at GTX 1050Ti which is somewhat old at this point. I did spot some GS65 and some razer laptops with better GPUs
  5. If anything I’d expect a GTX1660 or better. I spotted a few Razer laptops with some of the specs I’m targeting.
  6. GPU anything that can game decently, the GTX1650 is my base. higher would be great. If it can fit in the price point.
  7. Hi All, I've Had my Dell XPS 15 9550 for around 3 and a half years, It has served me well, even after a battery recall, and some gaming and programming without looking too damn crazy and over the top. I'm now considering an upgrade to my laptop. Specs of my Current Dell XPS 15 9550 Core i7 6700HQ, 16GB 2133Mhz RAM, 512 GB Samsung NVME SSD, GTX960M, 4K IPS Touch Screen When I'm at home I got it hooked up to my Dell 4K 27 inch monitor, and a Dell D6000 Dock Station to have my Corsair K70 RGB (That I refuse to make it go seizure mode with RGB and have set it to white only) and other External Drives connect to my Laptop, cause the available ports on the XPS can run out real quick. I was somewhat annoyed when I saw that the XPS 15 7590 on the Dell Australia is loaded with a GTX1650, rather than the RTX Cards which is considerably far better than the Current GTX 960M in my laptop or a GTX1650 for that matter, and no extra ports... I speced it similarly to what I have currently it would set me back AUD$3.5K... for the OLED 4K Screen and AUD$3.6K... for the 4K IPS Touch Screen. More than enough to make me sit in the corner and cry myself to sleep... Anyway, Here's my General Prerequisites that I'm looking in a Laptop. i7 8th or 9th gen 16GB RAM 512GB NVME SSD 15inch - 16inch IPS screen with Silm bezels and no OLED cause I don't wanna have Burn in it needs to be thin, and powerful not over AUD$3K. aiming for the 2.5K to 2.75K range preferably While I'll miss having a 4K screen on a laptop, as it stands there are other better deals out there for laptops. Any suggestions is appreciated.
  8. That's too much hassle a server rack really... there's no need for it. good try though. the system is not gonna generate much heat, its just mainly keeping the noise down while having a PC close by in the room. so Watercooling out of the and plus Noctua coolers are silent as heck.
  9. I'm not sure what motherboard to use but I've been looking around, There's things like the the Gigabyte Z170X UD5TH out there, mainly on the Higher end Z170 Boards you'll find Thunderbolt on it, any H170, B150 and H110 has no Thunderbolt headers anywhere. But ill try redesign the build to include it. the HDD needs to be killed off cause noise is something that must be reduced, hence why i rather use a larger SSD to cover the fact that there wont be any HDD for storage. also any ideas for silent PSUs which are good, also i know that the Fractal Design R5 Case without the window a hell of a silent PC but what other cases are great for silence builds. 10. I forgot to add, there won't be any HDD's in this system, as he will use External HDD's for storage that he got lying around.
  11. Currently planning a Build for a Friend of mine, he mainly wants the PC for Audio Production so silence is of utmost importance, so windows are not needed. To Keep with the silence theme Overclocking is not needed. It also must come with Thunderbolt as well as a requirement. GPU power is not needed at this point, so its gonna run with the Integrated Graphics. it also must be an i7 as well. Here's just a part list i've done, though that motherboard has no Thunderbolt. I'm trying to keep the build under AUD$1,500 but am willing to go over by AUD$200 any help is appreciated. 12. I'm currently looking at downsizing the media box to a smaller size. I've had the PC for about 7 months since I've upgraded my main rig to this https://au.pcpartpicker.com/b/wKwV3C The set up looks like this currently and looks kinda off due to symmetry being uneven with massive box beside a TV which is off centre. Stuff currently in the PC PCPartPicker part list: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/FYkwNG Price breakdown by merchant: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/FYkwNG/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $0.00) Motherboard: Asus Z97I-PLUS Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard (Purchased For $199.00) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (Purchased For $88.00) Storage: Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Case: BitFenix Phenom Midnight Black Mini ITX Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00) Power Supply: Thermaltake 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $287.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-01-29 23:32 AEDT+1100 I know that all this needs is a GPU to turn it into a gaming rig, and a better cooler for the CPU, cause the stock cooler is absolute junk. What I mainly do on that PC is Netflix, Youtube, and stream games from my gaming rig using steam in home streaming. I do have a spare Pentium G3258 which I purchased for 89 bucks back in May of 2015. So I'm trying to figure out whether its a good idea to downsize and downgrade the Media box and put the PC in a super slim case like the Fractal Design Node 202, or the Sliverstone Raven RVZ01. Haswell motherboards and DDR3 RAM has become extremely cheap since Skylake launched. and send the current PC to my Dads home as I don't have a PC Rig over there yet. So I'm somewhat stuck on what to do.
  13. Slow motion, definitely the best way to look stupid while being cool?
  14. I got 2 Mini iTX rigs, and the one thing i really wanted was fan headers, and most only have 2 which is somewhat annoying, especially if you get an AIO where It can be run off a fan header, hence why I went with Asus Maximus VI Impact where its got 4 fan headers, and the Asus Z97-I Plus wheres its got 3 fan headers, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4ydrjX http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XxdrjX Keep in mind I got AUD pricing, and everything is jacked up down here in terms of price. If your looking to save some bucks go with a H97 board with a Non-overclockable i5
  15. Considering you got Storage already, why not bring them across to the new Build that way you can keep costs down.
