  1. Ill just give them one of these and it wont be my problem https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-USB-Cable-USB3S2SAT3CB/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=ssd+to+usb&qid=1576769240&sr=8-4
  2. @Kilrah I bought a usb 3 SSD, and i have the same issue, I guess I didnt get a good enough one of that either. But anyways, Im already pretty committed to this computer front panel hot swap project
  3. @Lady Fitzgerald Its for my convince. I need a rugged and standard way to transfer large files from computer to computer consistently. For downloaded content such as video games, and movies. We dont have fast internet, so when one person in our house wants to share some large media file with another who hasnt downloaded it, I want a plug and play drive that can be copies to and read from quickly. USB 3.0 has never done the magic speeds as advertised, and usually slows down for some reason, its just not consistent (usb 3.0) is what im trying to say. Network transfer is an option, but windows shared folders is a headache, and so it setting up p2p/ftp. I have found that my need for a super flash drive has become quite clear over the years. When I want something really large downloaded. I can give my friend the drive (he has fast internet) and he can plug it into his system and download it and drive the drive over to me. it'd be faster than downloading the media myself. the point is, I cant rely on USB 3.0 for fast transfer speeds, because for some reason, it never goes the speed I need it to (yes, usb 3.0 drivers are installed, I think it might be something with the flash drives, usb 3.0 isnt slow on just my computer)
  4. Thanks Ray and Fitz. Thanks Kilrah. SirTek, That is a good idea, because I am looking for the ability to remove and place drives in my computer from the front. I guess I have a server technician gene or something. USB doesn't cut it for me.
  5. lets say we dont hot swap pcie, but there are other protocols that i know which offer super fast speeds, like thunderbolt
  6. Hi, My system runs with an nvme ssd, I am wondering if a product exists which will let me hot swap nvme drives on the front of my PC, like hot swappable SSD bays that already exist. Putting a nvme in an SSD adapter will still cap me at Sata 3 speeds. I have found a product that seems to only exist as a concept. https://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=259f Does anything like this exist right now? I need to move large amounts of data FAST.
  7. Id like to boot my OS as fast as possible. And if my local network will ever be involved, ill use a fiber card and nvme cache on the other end
  8. I was looking at the gigabyte x299 designare 10g for the raid nvme capability. Are there any other motherboards similar to this where the cpu is not bottle necked when it needs to communicate to two nvme ssd's in raid?
  9. If thunderbolt can take mouse/keyboard/display port though one cable, why cant it take a few more display port signals?
  10. From an earlier forum post, I was told that 1440p monitors running at 144hz need about 12Gbps, with thunderbolt 3's capability of 40Gbps, I see no reason my setup (like the one you mentioned, Rob) cant work. Unless the hardware isnt there, which is why im asking the forums if the hardware exists. Honestly I cant imagine that some sort of multipurpose protocol/cable (usb 3.2, thunderbolt, usb c?) hasnt been made to handle such needs. If anything, a fiber cable would have enough bandwidth to work here. I just am looking for that product right now, the one thatll convert my display port signals (3 of them) to one data line.
  11. Is it possible to inject three display port signals into one thunderbolt cable? I am having a hard time finding a 3 input (display port) 1 output (thunderbolt) pcie card. Is this something thats actually done? or do I need one thunderbolt per display port?
  12. What If I run one thunderbolt optical cable per monitor? Is there really nothing out there that will do ~60 Gbps? Theoretically: what about interfacing with fiber cables that go ~100Gbps, say I will buy such a cable and interface for display port to go through a fiber controller
  13. Hi, I have a computer that is not so quiet, I could make it kind of quiet, but it will never be dead silent (as if its not there) This is why I would like to put the computer in another room and cable in my triple 1440p 144hz monitors and keyboard/mice/USB I don't know if the capabilities of thunderbolt are good enough to give me triple 1440p 144hz monitors through a single cable. Has anyone done anything similar? Might you have experience with thunderbolt and can recommend a product(s) So I can take this project forward.
