  1. Hey everyone, I am building a new system tomorrow and short of using memtest to make sure I don't have faulty memory are there any tests I can and should be doing once I boot her up to make sure all the components aren't faulty and are stable? Side note, any recommended settings on the X99 BIOS (I am doing some Googling as well but ask here just in case). Thanks everyone!
  2. Can you elaborate a bit so I can have an understanding?
  3. Okay guys I've come up with these two builds, can anyone improve either or inform me on which to go? I'm leaning heavily towards the X99. I already have the cooler for each system so it's not on the list for either. X99: Should I get the ASUS X99-DELUXE instead? CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor ($565.00 @ PCCaseGear) Motherboard: Asus X99-A ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($399.00 @ Storm Computers) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($194.00 @ IJK) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($261.00 @ Centre Com) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW ACX 2.0 Video Card ($519.00 @ CPL Online) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case ($199.00 @ CPL Online) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W ($199 @ PCCaseGear) Total: $2336.00 Z170: Should I get the ASUS Z170-DELUXE or PRO-GAMING instead? CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($519.00 @ PCCaseGear) Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($245.00 @ Centre Com) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($177.00 @ IJK) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($261.00 @ Centre Com) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW ACX 2.0 Video Card ($519.00 @ CPL Online) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case ($199.00 @ CPL Online) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W ($199 @ PCCaseGear) Total: $2119.00 Thanks everyone.
  4. Hello everyone! I am building a new i7 6700k based system (overclocking in the future 1+ years so nothing needed for that side of things in this first phase) and I've been out of the game for a few years so I am here asking for some advice on my component choices. First off some details: Budget & Location: ~$2500 (high preference) in Western Australia (absolute Maximum $3000) Aim: Gaming (90% League of Legends), future FPS games, some 3D Engineering programs. Monitors: Possible two in the future 1440p. Peripherals: None. Why are you upgrading?: No technical issues, just want a new rig as my ~5 year old one is feeling the pressure. Here is my current component choice: I'd like criticism on the motherboard, memory, and possibly power supply but I feel 860 watts would be enough, otherwise I'd be willing to shell out for a 1200 watt modular Corsair unit. I have a high preference for an Asus board, Corsair memory, and nothing other than a Corsair power supply as I have NEVER had any problem with these guys. Finally, I am looking for a Nvidia card only. POWER SUPPLY: Corsair AX 860i (~$325)MOTHERBOARD: Asus Z170-AR (~$244)STORAGE: Samsung 850 EVO 500GiB (~$269)MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2A2400C14 16GB (~$189)CPU: i7 6700k (~$525)COOLING: Noctua NH-D15 (~$129)GRAPHICS: A Nvidia 970 card probably (~$499) rough cost I see aroundCASE: Corsair 750D (~$199) Total: (~2 379) If it helps out the main sources of components in Western Australia (that I know of) are: 1. pccasegear.com 2. ple.com.au 3. msy.com.au (horrible website) There are a few more but they are usually more expensive than the first two which are the main choices for everyone I see around. So, what do you all think?
  5. Hey guys, Since Linus got that lag tester in the mail after he did the LG 34UM95 review is there any chance of some data on the response time/input lag rather than one from the manufacturer. I can't seem to find any from other websites so it'd be cool if Linus could do a quick test and let us know - I am teetering on the edge of buying one.
  6. Would you say the Noctua would trump the Corsair H110? I'm going for as cool as possible and a quiet as possible. Don't mind if it's a bit louder if it's a lot cooler though. Having looked at a comparison chart here: http://www.asus.com/us/site/motherboards/Z97/comparison/ I don't really see a difference between the Deluxe and the Pro, basically the Deluxe has 1 more SATAe port, 2 more rear USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports and an extra Intel I211-AT ethernet port. I'm not too sure I'd use SATAe because that's for PCIe SSDs right? So really... nothing that justifies the extra money, unless I am missing something massive here. Sure 850W is enough? I've always thought it was best to go ~20% more than what you would need at the most. So if you had parts that use 1000W you get at minimum a 1200W PSU. The calculated value I get from a really quick input from a wattage calculate says I should get something with 818W or more, and I figure 1200W would be safer. As for memory just something with C7 then since that's the lowest latency?
  7. Hey guys, After a very long time with my current PC build I am going to be upgrading with the intent of running multiple 1440p monitors, or if the pice drops enough the LG 34UM95 (but I doubt it). Anyway: Im in Australia. I'm using PC Parts Picker because it's easy, but the final hunt will be done on lowest cost - so don't be afraid to use PCPP with the US selected instead of AUS. I intend on running multiple 1440p monitors. I intend on expanding storage A LOT in the future. I intend on purchasing another EVGA GTX780 Ti in the future. No peripherals or operating system cost is required. This will be a gaming and serious web development build, dual booting in Windows and OS X (hackintosh ftw) with virtualisation for testing IE. Essentially, Windows for gaming and OS X for all work related stuff. So far I have this planned: CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 93.3 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler ($109.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: Asus Z97-DELUXE(NFC&WLC) ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($380.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($144.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Superclocked Video Card ($669.99 @ Amazon) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case ($129.99 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: Corsair Professional Gold 1200W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Total: $1775.94 I am a complete loss on which memory to use. I want to stick with Corsair since I've had a wonderful experience with them in the past, and from what I hear they are top stuff. Given that I am going to be using this for gaming and work, with many servers running locally and some, possibly heavy, virtualisation going on what's the best route? I should clarify I am not interested in anything less than 16GiB at all, and it doesn't matter if the build goes above as long as the memory is right and in no way skimped. I'm not super sure on my motherboard (the 4790k only works on Z97 yes?) choice - just wondering if there's a bad rep for them out. Last time I checked it was hard to discern anything from the very limited number of reviews (only 1). Also, watercooling or aircooling for the CPU? I'm not opposed to either just want the best cooling for my buck, which I am going to assume is water but again I am not sure on which to select. I appreciate any help!
