  1. Got it sorted btw. If anyone is ever looking at this going "what the hell is the answer" you need to go over to overclock.net and download a version of nvflash which has Certificate Checks Bypass and that will do it.
  2. So that's the error message I'm getting. Any ideas how to fix it? http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/davidlane6/media/pic6_zpswdjxzcv6.png.html?sort=3&o=0
  3. I have no idea. Is there somewhere you can download a preset modded bios?
  4. No I didn't change the voltage table. The guide never said anything about that. I'll get right on that, cheers man.
  5. I'm new to the tech game, I've got a learning as I go kind of thing going on. I want to get the most out of my graphics card so I flashed the bios. But there has been no increase in volts and I don't know if it worked or not.. I think it did it right because I got the beeps when I flashed it. I followed a guide to using kepler bios tweaker and then downloaded nvflash. I accesed the command prompt from within the folder contained nvflash on the c drive. I saved the new bios as "bios2.rom". In the command tab I entered "nvflash -4 -5 -6 bios2.rom" then I hit "Y" when prompted, got the beeps and restarted the system. however gpu-z is still show the cap of 1.6 volts. I believe the flash took though as when I tried the same input prompt again in the command tab it came up with an error saing it can't open the file. presumably because I was trying to flash the bios with the existing version of the bios?? I have also tried the command "nvflash bios2.rom --overide -6" same error message. Anyway I attached some screenshots which should show more. Also just a quick question on how to know when you've hit your max overclock I just steadily increase clock speeds with msi afterburner and run heaven benchmark. I stopped when the heaven score starts declining. My logic is that when the score starts declining it's getting worse... I've no idea if that's smart though. let me know thanks. So pic 5 gets 608 on heaven with everything maxed and in fullscreen. but I still get the same performance cap as when I max out the voltage as seen on pic 3. So I'm hoping that by flashing the bios I can increase the voltage more than in pic 5 and maybe bump that score up a bit.
  6. Problem solved! I removed the really obstructive support bars for the monitor stand along with the stand, and I can now finally sit at it properly. I put a blanket over the glass as a short term solution to it being freezing cold and boom I'm in business. Gonna get some sleep now and tomorrow I'm playing Shogun 2 . Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I may well get a corner desk in the future.
  7. A corner desk definitely seems like the way to go. My uncle is actually a carpenter, I'm thinking I might get him to put something together for me. Might be able to do this right.
  8. My desk is a total pain in the ass, it's glass and it feels like I'm going to break both my wrists If I use my mouse and keyboard for more than half an hour (no joke). This has resulted in me playing exclusively with a controller for fear of carpal tunnal syndrome. While this is fine it's hardly ideal and rules out alot of games. I played defense grid 2 the other week balancing the mouse on a book on my knee and no use of keyboard as it does not have controller support. I tried using my desk but after 10 minutes my right wrist was red...fuck that. So I've got 2 options that I can see. 1. get a really thick sort of foam cover and put that over the desk thereby softening it. Now a second problem with the desk is that it has a fair few obstructing metal supports bars underneat it which restrict how far I can move my chair forward as I have long legs. So I'm thinking screw plan 1 which is doomed 2 fail and go straight to plan 2. Which is buy a new desk. And what better people to get advice from than you folks. This is just a start point so just a few good tips on what to look for in a decent desk would be much appreciated. Thanks. Edit: Another problem with it and actually I think this is what is causing all the problems is the it has a fancy elevated and extended stand for the monitor. Then because of all the support bars under the desk, if you are sitting in a typical fashion at the desk you are WAY too close to the monitor and your legs are pressing into the support bars. So you have to sit further back and move the mouse and keyboard fairly close to the edge of the desk so that you are in effect leaning on your wrists when you are using them as opposed to having your arms resting on the desk while using them which is the case with every other desk I've ever sat at. Ok I'm gonna see if I can remove the stand and support bars. See if that helps.
  9. So I reckon the best place for the rad is in the exhaust as then the air is hottest AFTER it passes over the motherboard as opposed to being the hottest AS it's going over the motherboard which it would be with the RAD in an intake position. Solved bitches. As for question one I guess I'll take yere word on it.
  10. So I'm not understanding how SP fans are not the exact same as AF fans for Pull configurations. I get why they are far surperior in push configurations but does the static pressure also apply to how they suck the air in?? If someone could link me to some benchmarks comparing them It would be much appreciated. Ideally a benchmark with fans that have close CFM. My second and last question is how important the positioning of the rad is in an AIO. Does having access to fresh cool air in an intake position have noticable benefits over having warm air passing through the rad in an exhaust position? again a link to some benchmarks would be ideal. I hope these questions are not too nooby but I'm finding it difficult to find solid explanations to question 1 and question 2 just occured to me so I haven't researched that yet. But in general I find it difficult to find solid/comprehensive info on cooling.
  11. so there is no bios version that supports the fx 6350. It is apparently not supported by the motherboard. GET FUCKED ASUS.
  12. ok this is where I'm at, when I try to update the bios through usb key I'm getting the message: "No update module is found in the file". I have what I believe to be the correct version of the bios on the usb key it is also correctly named (I think) "M5A78L.rom" I don't really know what else to do....
  13. Hi, first time builder, I've hit a slight snag. My cpu is apparently not supported by my motherboard, even though it says on the fucking box that it supports fx; but I digress. I know I need to update my bios, but I have no idea how to do it. I can't access windows, I'm stuck at the bios set up screen. If someone could give me a step by step guide to updating the bios I would really appreciate it.
  14. I recently purchased a death adder 2013 (still in the post) and I'm gonna upgrade my mousemat as well. I currently use a generic soft mat and I've never had any issues with it. But unfortunately it's pretty frayed at the edges and it is time for a new one. I'm not a huge fan of hard mouse mats, I find them slippy and awkward. Which is why I have not bought a 4hd already, I'm worried it has too much in common with hard mats. Some input on the topic would be much appreciated.
