  1. Any other coolers you recommend? I'm not a big fan of the color scheme, and the size is quite large.
  2. Hey guys! So I've made alot of adjustments on my first build, and this is what I've settled upon for the time being. I'm posting here to make sure my build is fully compatible, and if any better alternatives exist at this price point. Budget: No more than $2000 (USD) , but I would like to keep it in the $1600 range Use: Focus on medium-heavy adobe after effects/premiere pro usage, and medium-heavy unity usage, with some medium intensity gaming. So, both editing and gaming, with a slight focus on editing (Hence the i7). Other: The budget includes a monitor, OS, webcam, and mic. I also prefer wifi, as ethernet ports are hard to access in the location I plan to put the PC. So advice? Alternative Parts, etc? Thanks! 3. Hey! You've got a pretty solid build there. A few recommendations http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3RX0Q For the processor, just stick with the 4670k. Its a perfectly capable processor for gaming. For the motherboard, take the gryphon z87, you dont need the z97 if you take the 4670k For ram, anything works, i got you one stick of 8gb 1866hz corsair ram, so you have more slots to expand, especially when you are going for microatx. For the cooler, I went with hyper 212 evo. Im not sure if the noctua will fit in the prodigy, and depending on how much you are planning to overclock, you may or may not need a better cooler, but the 212 evo is still a great cooler. For the storage... I highly recommend you go with the ssd hard drive combo. For the same price as the 250gb, you are getting alot more storage, you can throw all your junk on the hardrive, and put all your games and apps, and maybe a current project on the ssd. Plus, you have two drives, so if one fails, you dont lose everything. For the graphics card, the asus 780 is fine, just watch for compatibility once again, you may have to remove some drive bays, which shouldnt be a problem. For psu, you only need 600w, and a gold psu is not necessary. If you really do want a gold 80+, get a cheap one, you only need a maximum of 650w, maybe even 550w, but I like the breathing room you get with the 650w. For the monitor, I threw in a fantastic asus vg248qe. It boasts a 1ms response time and 144hz refresh rate, which is great for gaming, and I believe its 24 inches. You could also try a benq monitor, but asus is a great company, that I personally enjoy. I personally like ips monitors, but they don't come in less than 5ms response times, most good ones are 6ms. Truthfully, you wont see much of a difference between 2ms and 6ms unless you are a hardcore gamer, and the better color and viewing angles may be preferred. I also threw in an optical drive to install the os, in case you need one. All together, with the monitor, its about 1600 dollars, or 1175 euros, well under your budget, while still being a powerful build with room to expand. You could buy yourself a gtx 780 ti, a better cooler, ot some nice peripherals . Im no expert, having only built one computer myself, but Ive done alot of research. Post your updated build so I can take a look at it.
  4. PSU is totally fine. 500w is more than enough for what you are trying to do. For that budget, you might want to upgrade to a 770 or even a 780, especially if the build is more gaming focused.
  5. Sorry for the late response, I had to think about the build for quite a while Here is my finished build-ish, I still need some clarification on some parts. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3FL4Y Processor: I really want the i7, so I would like to stick with the processor I currently have. If necessary, i.e. I want to spend more on the rest of the build, I can downgrade to an i5, which, as you said, is still a fantastic processor. I'll see how the rest of my build turns out, and then buy a processor based on that. Good news, Im going down to LA in early june, i can pick up my processor at the microcenter there, so maybe its better to just stick with the i7. Cpu Cooler: I'm going to stick with the noctua nh-d14, hopefully the nh-d15 comes out soon so i can go with that. Paired with my ram i get a 15 dollar discount (yay!). Motherboard: Oh boy. The motherboard. I'm taking the asrock into strong consideration, but I would like an asus motherboard. Color scheme is not an issue for the motherboard, i just want a good mobo. Currently Im considering: Asrock extreme4, asus z97 pro, and gigabyte g1 sniper z87 (~$150 one). I may end up going with a green color scheme if I go with the gigabyte, or stick with a blue if i go with the asrock/asus. Memory: 16gb gskills looks good, and comes with the 15 dollar discount. No problems here. SSD: Again, pretty standard, I dont think Im gonna ned the 256 gb, 120 should be just fine. I currently have a mac air, and Ive been living off of solely 128 gb of storage for about two years. Hard Drive: Im considering whether im going to need the 2TB, or to stick to 1TB and get the other TB at a later time as an upgrade if I need it. As i stated above, ive been living off of 120 gb for two whole years, so Im not sure if I will need 2TB just yet. Graphics Card: So Ive been thinking, do I really need the 780? Im going to be gaming, thats for sure, but I only have one monitor, going to have 1080p monitor, and Im not a HARDCORE gamer. Sire im going to play the most recent graphically demanding games, but im not going to notice the difference between 40 and 45 fps. I have a friend who has a dual monitor 1080 p display, and plays the latest games, and is fairly content with a chillbast 760. Do I need the 780, or should I just downgrade to a 770, or even a 760? I know many people say you should get the best monitor you can afford, but theres a huge price difference between the 770 and 780, so im still considering this option. Thoughts? Case: According to pc partpicker, the graphics card wont fit the nzxt case, so Im going with a fractal design define r4. A fantastic case anyways, with great soundproofing, and only 90 bucks with the 10 dollar discount Im getting. It also gets really good reviews on Linus's channel. PSU: According to Nvidia, they recommend at least a 650w power supply for a 780 graphics card. Will 550w be enough, seeing as this is a pretty high end build? Im a bit worried about it, but if the 550w is enough then I should be good. And why did you go with rosewill, over corsair or seasonic (the more reputable brands)? OS: Good Monitor: So for the monitor, as you can see, I went with the designo series one. I like one, fairly big monitor, so i went with the 27 inch. When it comes to the faster response times of the tn vs the graphics of the ips, I prefer the ips. The designo series monitor was ips, great design, and had a decent response time of 5ms, so i went with that. However, it is a tad bit expensive, as you pointed out. Is the proart, or even the asus tn panels a good choice? Any other monitors (Asus preferably) that you recommend? Peripherals: Here, I wanted to splurge a little, and I absolutely LOVE the feel of the mechanical keyboard. I just realized that the blackwidow ultimate has blues, so Im not so sure im going to get that keyboard, as I prefer the browns. Any good mechanical keyboards with cherry browns? For the mouse, I just got the deathadder, only 50 bucks and gets great reviews. Its also really simple, it doesnt have all those fancy buttons I dont need, and the color is configurable. So that was alot, I would be really grateful if you could address all my thoughts and questions and clear things up a bit. Sorry for any grammar mistakes, Im writing this in a bit of a hurry. Thanks so much! PS: Almost forgot a disk drive, Ill just through in the cheapest one i can find, I dont need blueray or anything since I have a ps4, just something to run my os
  6. Faceman: Thats fantastic! I really like your high range build, it has just what I want at a cheaper price, after switching some components up for cheaper components from the mid ranged build i think i will be fine. For peripherals, I only really need a monitor, I think I can stick to my crappy keyboard and mouse for the time being. Jtrier1: Why do you recommend a dual sli over the singular gtx 780? Ill post an updated build later for you guys to look at. Thanks again!
  7. For more background I wish to be able to plug my pc and game console into my monitor Blue/black color scheme Under/around 2000 dollars I live in the us Silence is great but not a priority I plan on overclocking, but not by much
  8. Thank you all for the great responses! I will definetly look into these builds, thanks alot
  9. I would like to keep the price under $2000 as well
  10. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/flamehfur/saved/4vBQ Hey! This is my first build, and I would really like some advice on my part choice. Any way to make this cheaper is also helpful. I plan on using this pc for gaming, editing videos(light, not high end), and all purpose use. Thanks! Update 1: I have a few questions 1. Is there an advantage to dual sli of the 760s over the 780? 2. Is 550w enough? 3. Its hard for me to part with the sabertooth after linus's review on it. Can I have some more information on the asrock motherboard in the high end build, and a comparison to the asus sabertooth 4. Im a big fan of aesthetic builds, so I would like to stick as close to a blue and black build as possible, since having to spray paint parts will void warranties. However, I can make exceptions to parts like the ram and motherboard. I may just end up getting blue leds to light up my case and illuminate the parts, so its not that big of a deal if it cant work out. Thats also the reason I went with the designo series monitor. 5. The Fractal design define r4 looks like a fantastic case? Would it work for me? Its not too expensive at 100 bucks, and gets god reviews on linus's channel.
