  1. You could look at it that way. You'll always be looking for the next different sound and never be happy with either your music or your equipment. I think we've already been reproducing audio with even basic equipment that is audibly lossless to our ears, but since that apex has been reached, people in the of high end market have been sold the idea of "taste driven" equipment that abandons merely reproducing audio for the notion of "changing" it. If you want to change how your music sounds, fine, but it seems like a departure from the original goal to me. We've already made audibly perfect DAC and AMPs, but marketing majors are good at selling iceboxes to Eskimos. That's the way I look at it. There's a big black button at the top right when you are looking at a whole board as opposed to a thread. Maybe you should read some of the threads already in the board though and see if they answer your question before starting a new one, though.

    Good Buy?

That's the least of his problems. In b4 Naruto sucks posts. On a more serious note, try getting a better pair of headphones and a cheap mic instead, OP. You might be surprised how much you were missing with a headset. Read the FAQ (It's the first thread on this board) if you have any other questions.
  3. I'll buy that for recording you might want to be artistic and change your sound. Recording is recording, however. Not to mention, a digital filter can be made (and exists!) to re-create that "tang" effect perfectly. Reproduction is reproduction. Wasn't audiophilia supposed to be about listening to music as it was intended without distortion or noise? Why are we ADDING more distortion?
  4. The output impedance is probably around 50 Ohms. But I wouldn't know without measuring it. My thoughts on tubes are as such: Just like an amplifier, you can build a computer with vacuum tubes as well! but it would be: -bigger (MUCH BIGGER!) -slower -MUCH MORE POWER HUNGRY -less reliabe -much cooler looking I know, right. There's not much reason to use vacuum tubes to make transistors in computers, but.. Why is this different for amplifiers? Tubes amps are simpler to build in a number of ways. The Bottlehead Crack is a good example of something you could build yourself without even a a PCB! Frankly, you'd be better off just building an O2 and hooking up a couple tubes in the top so they light up and nothing else. Best of both worlds. Sighted Listening would instantly make everything sound "warmer"!
  5. MMMMHMMM, single-ended class A I presume? That's gonna eat some real power. Love the stats btw: >Output Power: >500mW Oh, gee, thanks, I know it gets LESS than 500mW, that's real exact. Did they just guess? I hope it gets this at 32 Ohms at least. >Headphone impedance : 32Ω-300Ω Headphone impedance? this is an AMP/DAC. what's it's output impedance? input impedance? Does this mean it's COMPATIBLE with 32 Ohm to 300 Ohm headphones? Or do you just think it might sound good on any headphone that happens to fall in this impedance range? I DON'T KNOW. >signal to noise ratio (SNR) :>90dB We'd rather you just think of it as "warmth" rather than hiss. Not bad for a tube amp really, if it's falling with the volume pot at a constant rate. There I go ASSUMING things again, if the pentometer is before the gain stage it might be much more than linear. It says "inpot" on the label on the rear...
  6. What do you use to listen to music then? Your CD player? That's so 90's. Ok I'm done...
  7. uhhh, no. The HD595 and HD555 use the same drivers. Note that the material in the cups is different, and they thus sound different. Foam mod or not. The HD598 has a different driver, quite similar to the old HD580, but with a lower nominal impedance. The HD600 and 650 use similar drivers but are not quite the same at all. Still, they really all do look the same, I get you. I'd get the HD600 unless you like that "wood accent" design. ick.
  8. *folder*.* *cover*.* *front*.* /scans/*.* /booklets/*.* /BK/*.* that's the whole list for me
  9. sounds like fan interference. Is this the front panel jack?

I think they had to lock it last time.... http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/31666-beats-solo-by-dr-dre-review/?hl=beats

  12. Well, I don't know, I still haven't gotten the $1000 together yet to find out! I've got about 5 other headphones I'd like to collect before that one. It's another Ortho, so I'd imagine it's very accurate, heavy, goofy looking, and very strange on the high end. Apparently the one insane head-fi guy who has ALL the headphones called it the "king of darkness". It's made in California wine country. Sounds pretty fishy to me, but that's all I really know. Wood is sorta before my time, anyways...

    Bass vs Balance

Don't they always say you want a "V" shaped frequency response for dubstep? I'd say the Beyerdynamic DT990pro is my favorite in that category. I guess it does accentuate the "extremes" a bit, which is what dubstep is all about, right? I prefer the ambiance and trance myself...
  14. It looks like you say it "Aud-disease" but it's SUPPOSED to be pronounced "Odessey" (a shout out to the "wood age" no doubt) That and my shamless schiit joke.
  15. I don't fiddle with mics too much, but: I'd say one of your left channel connections is bad given the sound comes only out of the left channel (unless you recorded it all into the left channel?). You have a loose cable and it's not making a good connection somewhere...
  16. I think you have a bad connection somewhere. But I have no way of knowing without further details on what your plugging into what where.
  17. I guess Audeze must be "schiit" then too ... oh right
  18. Headphones (not headset! stop it!): Audio Technica ATH-M50 Mic: Zalman One or that shit in your drawer Sound Card: none There. Done.
