Thank you both for your advice. The security isn't extremely important since it's just weekly backups in multiple different locations. We've had it for 8 years without a problem. Getting a certificate on FTP seemed difficult, so we never bothered. The attacks are still going on, but it's the same commands being tried over and over again from 500+ IPs, and it all comes up as unrecognized commands. SSHFS looks interesting and might be more userfriendly for our parents with a mounted drive. We don't use the same passwords for the FTP as anything else. It's all 16 character random generated passwords. From the commands they're trying to get through, I don't even think they want the passwords, but rather infect it to become a zombie or something. That's probably the same reason they have 500+ IPs acting instantly as soon as I block one. I have blocked 438 IPs so far, from all over the world, and they pop up as fast as I can click them. I'll look into the mounted drive options next week probably. Thank you for your suggestions and help!

Hi. I have a small FileZilla FTP running for familymembers to backup offsite (they have one too for my stuff) just in case. We've had them running for 8 years or so without any issues. We barely use them. Today a lot of attempted traffic caught my eye, and it looks like it's being attacked. I don't think anything got through, but I'm not sure what I should do. Any recommendations? I wouldn't want to limit access to only a few select addresses since we sometimes get new IPs and even use our phones if we need something randomly. Something "broke" when I reset it and re-updated it. The Bandwidth Monitor no longer tracks this machines usage, but works for the other 7 clients - now this machine can run at close to normal speeds. Think it's all working fine, just a few tweaks needed that probably comes in the near future. I'll contact support tomorrow regardless. Thank you so much for your assistance with this, Lurick. IPv6 already disabled. Firewall already disabled. Basically disabled everything I could find. Just did a factory reset to retest with default settings - same speeds with a bunch of the traffic analyzer and speed meters enabled

Options for NAT Acceleration is Disabled or Auto. Set it to Auto, made no difference. Got 502/694 this time - tested 3 times and it's +- 5 from test to test

Updated firmware - no change. About 250 short on download, and 50 on upload. Connected R7000 again just for sanity check - still 745/750 on that one. 750/750 on direct cable to modem.

That's one of the pages I'm not familiar with, but I doubt that's what you're talking about. I'll check the tabs for anything about packet counters now. Edit: Didn't find anything about packet counters in any of the tabs, or in the manual - I did however notice that the Router's 'check for new firmware' didn't update to the newest version on the support site (the version I mentioned in the original post), so I'll quickly update to that version manually and check if that should fix it.

Hi. We've bought a new Router (ASUS BRT AC828) to replace our beloved Nighthawk R7000 when it started randomly rebooting (apparently that's a very common issue with that particular router?). We pay for 750/750, and had no issues running that with the R7000. The new ASUS Router seems to hover around 550/700 with all features disabled. Directly connecting to the modem gives a steady 750/750 at all times. I tried enabling and disabling all features - even enabled QOS and set it to lower rates, full rates and rediculous rates to see if it had anythign to do with it, but it didn't help. Tried both WAN ports too, all LAN ports to PC, 8 different devices and basically everything I could think of apart from changing to an older firmware version (Current: Version 3.0.0.4.380.7341_FBwifi) Such an expensive device shouldn't be limited like this. Hopefully it's my mistake somewhere. Any ideas?

My parents printer broke down and now they need a replacement. I have no beneficial knowledge of printers other than how to use one, so I was hoping for someone in here to help with some choices. Budget up to $200 (can probably push higher if need be) Needs duplex printing and scanning capabilities. Preferably a slim model 18-20 cm in height to fit on the shelf. Any and all recommendations are appreciated. EDIT: Ordered on recommendation from a friend. Canon PIXMA MG5752 (I don't know how to mark as answered, so I put solved in title. A moderator could do it or reply with a post of how to do it. I tried searching but it didn't get any hits)

I'll check out those articles you linked. Thanks Could you put some recommendations for what would be needed if I'm not using the STX? I would like the flexibility of being able to use USB from phone or laptop or other PCs to connect and have the same sound. Keeping the EQ settings in the loop without it being integrated into the source (soundcard in this case). Receiver? Preamp? Dedicated EQ or built-in? Thank you for your suggestions!

I bought some speakers and an amplifier during Black Friday, and now I'm looking for a few extra things to complete the entire set. However, I am new to speaker setups, and would like some guidance to fit things together properly. Audio source is mostly PC. I have a Xonar Essence STX for my headphones and I love it. Would you use that as source, or go digital and get a dedicated DAC/Receiver or something? I want to be able to set EQ presets for different genres of music and movies. (10+ band EQ would be preferable, just like the STX) I would like to be able to have at least 2 input sources so I don't have to switch cables, but simply change the input channel, but this isn't a must. Amp price is around $1k, speakers $600 each (2x floorstanding) Budget is whatever gets me a great result. I'm not looking for a 'cheap' solution if it's not good. I enjoy being satisfied with how it sounds just as much as I like the contents of the track. I have noticed people going crazy when I mention I want a way to use an EQ, but I simply love tweaking it to exactly my liking for each different genre. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

Thank you both for your replies. The speakers are in head height and faced directly towards me aprox 45 degree angle from vision to either side. Sub is below TV on the floor between the two pillars with the speakers on. So from the TV/BR player, what do i connect inbetween. I checked both and none of them have EQ menus.

So I've finally got the time to setup the speakers I bought about half a year ago. What do I need in order to do this? They have input selection for USB, 3.5mm, RCA and TRS. I would like the vocals to be cleaner and not be drowned as much. (It sounds good without tweaking, but I would like to be able to have the vocals stand out more) Equalizer? Receiver? DAC/AMP? What am I looking for to be able to adjust them to my liking? I appreciate any suggestions ofcourse. Thank you!

Well, in the end it was a mistake, ofcourse. Not entirely sure which of the things I did that managed to get it going now, but it works. Went crazy and kept making small adjustments and tested over and over again - paid off in the end. Thanks a lot for your input guys! Next up: see if I can trick the (U_BOARD) to use an alias instead of my domain name when supplying links in emails. Any ideas lol?

Thank you both for your replies. I have tried both just to see if it was sending at all since I didn't get any error messages in the email filter (I do if I put gmail settings incorrectly on purpose) I'll recheck the php.ini and mail functions just in case. Wouldn't that report an error though?

So I've been fiddling with setting up a phpbb forum for a small community. Currently it's on a local windows 7 computer using XAMPP to explore the system and iron out most of the starter issues etc. So far I've gotten everything to work, except for e-mail. (registration verification, resetting passwords and other notifications via email (forum internal message system for notifications works fine!)) I would like it to use the built-in mail() system if possible. (I tried using smtp over gmail from a guide I found somewhere a few days ago, also didn't work) The real issue is that it doesn't show any errors while trying to send anything. If I put the smtp settings up incorrectly on purpose I do get an error of the correct type. Email settings tab in ACP: http://i.imgur.com/4c8VU2I.png Any ideas are greatly appreciated! My hardware is capable of running this. I don't play games more than maybe 3 hrs a week, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy this monitor while I do that, and also while just doing work or simply browsing. I adore the slim bezles, and I'm eager to experience both higher refresh rates and higher resolutions - this is a hobby. For the few games I do play, or might play in the future when I have time - G-Sync should still be a thing. I don't want a TV. While the price is what keeps me from just buying it and seeing it for myself, I'm more concerned about getting something that will make me enjoy it every single day I use it, regardless of it being either in games or while browsing the web or anything else. While it is a $1k monitor, it's still a monitor - it can do other things than show games. Haven't had the chance to see this or the 34um95 in person yet. I will when I get back home in 2 weeks time.

I never cared for 21:9 at all, and still don't, I think? However. after watching that, I think I'll have to at least go to the store to see this one in person. It might just fit my needs in a different way, Just need to get another stand for it I guess. Interesting!

It will make me feel good about my purchase even if it might be 'overkill' in some aspect. It's just too damn good. I want one. The alternatives are too slow to arrive hnnng. At this point I might as well flip a coin about either strapping myself to a chair for a month or just ordering one.

I don't need it, but I'm interested in trying it. Dragging windows without seeing 60FPS dragging would make me smile. I do play games every now and then, but nothing that requires 60+

So I've had my eyes on the swift since the announcement, but kept waiting for the price to drop, and now I'm waiting for alternatives since it's still rather expensive. It does however bring all I really want. Thin bezels really makes me happy G-Sync seems interesting even though I don't do much gaming 1440p @ 27" will run it at 120-144hz (first time using this, so excited) and red fits my build theme, just to top it off Am I just being stubborn on the price? Is there anything else I should consider? PS: Acer doesn't interest me, Countless bad experiences
