  1. So I went and looked at the info for my rented server while it was running. It doesn't display the amount of network traffic it uses when running. However, I did get a response from support and the rental service uses a 1 GBps connection like a business center. But I'm almost certain thats for their entire network and not just the single server box. It also turns out they run 6 different servers on one box. So no idea on the average traffic for just my server node.
  2. That reliability percentage may have been an overestimate. I have only ever had issues twice. The primary concern I have is the upload speed. HostHavoc doesn't share the info for what they have so I don't really have much to compare to. But do you think that its going to be an issue? I understand if you don't know, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Thank you
  3. Awesome, the general consensus with my friends is that the R620 is the best bet as well. Now I have another issue to consider... My internet speed. I have spectrum which is reliable %95 of the time, however I'm a bit worried about the upload speed not being enough. How does these speeds look for game server hosting?
  4. So I've been practically going insane researching this stuff as I don't usually work with Server Boards or XEON CPU's. Anyways, here's what I've found so far for refurbished pre-built systems: Dell Power Edge r620 with 12 Cores@3.5GHZ w/ 64 GB RAM Or I could look into building my own from a barbones system: R710 w/o CPU, RAM, HDD/SSD's Intel Xeon 5690 6 Cores@3.46 GHz 64GB Ram The barbones would actually be cheaper for similar performance. However, I'm not %100 sure if that 5690 is actually part of the 5500/5600 series as I've been getting different results when looking into it. Hoping you can help verify if that barebones set-up with the linked parts are in fact compatible.
  5. OK then... Well I think I may have found something that would work alright. But this is the kind thing I've been looking at here. I know I'll still have to get the bays/drives, but would that work OK?
  6. I still don't understand what the best bet here is... Not sure if I should look for a dell and just upgrade the cpu to something with a higher clock speed (Arma servers are CPU-Heavy). I mentioned the recommended specs for the Arma server require at least 3.4 Ghz. Is it not going to be an issue if I go for something with a lower clock speed? Also, how does this system look if I just added more ram: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ProLiant-BL20p-G3-397435-B21-Blade-Server-3-8-Ghz/370509659313?hash=item564418bcb1:g:7yUAAMXQh6JRF~VQ I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, I just don't know what to do here.
  7. Yikes... A ryzen would cut out more half my budget, so that's not really an option for me. However, a refurbished R720 wouldn't be a terrible idea. Is there other retailers you know of besides ebay, amazon, or newegg that sells refurbished R720's and parts? Also do you have any recommendations on the best FCLGA2011 CPU for what I need? One with 3.4-3.6 GHZ would be ideal if you have any recommendations.
  8. So according to Host Havocs Site, I am currently paying for something similar to a VMware Virtual OS. The system that its hosted on has a Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1270 v5. I get pretty good performance on that already but for my own build, I would like to have more processing power than that unless its unnecessary. I'm not sure what kind of system would be cost effective here. Should I continue to look for a Dell R710/R720 with the required specs? Should I just look into building my own? Is there another system that I am unaware of that would be ideal? What's the best place to purchase said system/parts to build my own? All I know is what specs I require and what I have currently get from renting. I don't know what system would be best and what retailer would be best to purchase said system from.
  9. So here's the deal, I lead a pretty large Arma 3 Unit. We pay $29/ month ($348 /year) renting just the Single Arma 3 Server + TS Server. We're growing in size quite substantially (Just hit 35+ active players) and are in desperate need of increasing our Server Capabilities. However, our operating cost monthly/yearly are already pretty expensive for what we get and we're looking at purchasing/building our own server unit to host 2-4 Arma 3 Servers + 1 The TS Server. I have been looking at Refurbished Dell R710/R720 and am having a hard time deciding if that would be the best option. According to the wiki, the recommended specs for each server instance is 3.4 Ghz, 4gb Ram, and 320GB of Storage (500GB w/ mods). So I know what specs I need, just don't know what server unit to go for and I need recommendations on what kind of server unit to get (Rack. Tower, Etc). P.S. On the component side, I am leaning heavily towards a Dual Xeon (X5690) system with AT LEAST 32GB RAM (64GB Preferred). However, I am new to setting up a server box and working with VMware, so if I am wrong on any of this I would also appreciate tips.
