  1. Update: the chipset seems to support 32Gb sticks but the old i7 6800k doesn't

Thank your answer, I thought that could be because back in the day there weren't much 32Gb Sticks around so nobody ever bothered with it, but also 128 Gb max aren't there for no reason as max cap. I really need to upgrade the cpu from i7 to threadripper but first comes the gpu due to workload reasons.
  3. I have an old mainboard the asus rampagne 5 edition 10, it needs to hold out for another year or so. I want to get an ram upgrade for now, and carry that over to the new mainboard and cpu, I want to put 32 Gb sticks in and I am not sure if the mainboard will accept 32x4, it can fit 128Gb and has 8 slots, so my question is: can the mainboard utilize 4x32Gb when half populated or does it just work with 8x16Gb.
