Hi guys i am looking for advice on buying a new prebuilt laptop.
The intended use is for Xilinx's Vivado software. The problem is that there are no benchmarks to turn to, hence I thought I'd ask you guys here for an advice. Xilinx only provides the minimum required memory for specific FPGA build/project.
From my observations and what I could gather from some relative old posts on the internet here are the main points:
CPU clock is important since 90% of the time software uses only 1 core. Hence the need of fast CPU clock. Otherwise this particular software can utilize up to 8 cores.
Fast RAM (DDR4), since this software is memory hungry
Minimum requirements for RAM is 32GB.
Maximum budget for the laptop is in the range of $2000.
Now my dilemma is to go with an intel that can clock up to 5.3 GHz or use a ryzen with a slower clock?
Can a ryzen over perform an intel even with slower clock?
Is the clocks frequency still as important in CPU performance as it was?
Which configuration/laptop/mobile workstation would you suggest?
