  1. So far, so good, but I'm not going to know if anything's wrong until using it for a while. Thanks a lot for your help!
  2. Okay, I looked at my BIOS and it says my tRFC is 631 (auto) while my tRFC2 was almost 500 (left at Auto) and my tRFC4 was 289 which I bumped up to 300. I don't know if that will help, but is there any input you have for this? If not that's cool too
  3. I think I know where to do it for my mobo, but what timings should I be setting my RAM to? should I be going up? down? 500?
  4. How do I know what to manually set the timings to?
  5. Occasionally, my computer will suddenly shutdown and restart. The screen goes blank, but the fans and lights stay on. Then, the computer reboots. I do not receive any error messages. This has happened 3 times so far. The first 2 times this happened, I was watching a movie through a Discord stream. The third time, I was browsing the internet and Facebook. The room was comfortably cool for all occurrences. I thought this could be due to high temps, but I've added another fan (3 in, 3 out) and upgraded from my stock CPU cooler to a Noctua U12S. GPU has unobstructed airflow. Outcoming air is only a little bit warmer than the surrounding air. 1. Does anyone know what is going on? 2. How can I make this issue reappear? 3. How do I fix it? Specs- Mobo: MSi Pro B550-A CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 RAM: 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3600 Storage: 1TB NVMe WD Blue GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 5600XT Gaming OC PSU: Corsair TX550M Gold (550W) Case: Antec DF600 Wifi Module: TP-Link Archer T4E OS: Windows 10 Edu 64-bit SMBIOS: Ver 2.8 The only part that has been overclocked is the RAM. I changed it to 3600 because of the 2133 limit. I would un-overclock it, but this problem has not been predictable so I wouldn't know for sure if it solved the problem.
  6. Dang, I appreciate your experimentation, and I'll definitely listen to you. I'm new to computer building and such so I'm just trying to play with whatever I can get my hands on.
  7. I appreciate the warning! I had no idea that would be an issue, so i'll probably go with an AM3 socket 2 or 4 core Phenom, whichever is cheapest with a preference for a 2. Out of curiosity, how did you know it has terrible vrms and vrm cooling? I'd like to watch out for this in the future
  8. Budget (including currency): USD$200 Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minimal desktop usage for Mom I have an older computer that ran Win7 Starter. The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 (rev. 1.0) which uses DDR3 RAM. I plan to get an AM3+ slot processor (probably a 6 core FX just for kicks) and fit it with 2x4GB DDR3-1600 or 1866 RAM. However, it looks like the latest drivers are for Win8.1. Is this going to pose a problem if I use Win10? Is it possible for a motherboard from the past decade to not be compatible with Win10?
  9. I don't think they specifically made any "out of the box" drivers compatible with 98, but I read on Retro Systems Revival that the chipset can be backwards compatible with 98. I was sort of able to install the graphics driver, but there was something about the IDE that I needed to install. Supposedly the drivers can be compatible with a workaround. I'm not necessarily looking for drivers that will work. I'm asking for help on how to make the drivers (from the Dell website or otherwise) work on 98SE in any way, shape, or form. Similarly, someone got their Latitude D600 (which is about 2 years older than the D520) to work with 98, and they made a file with a bunch of drivers that worked with it.
  10. I have an old Dell Latitude D520 that originally ran Win XP. I installed Win 98SE on it, but it's missing a bunch of drivers. I don't need to install all of them, since I don't plan to go online with it and I don't anticipate using a USB (I have plenty of left over CDs to transfer data). My plans for the laptop include enjoying the nostalgia of the quirky screensavers and themes, reminiscing about my first laptop (an NEC running Win 98), and playing old CDs like Freddi Fish, Spy Fox, and Pajama Sam. So far, I'm only able to run in 16 colors (bleh) and no sound comes, except for a startling beep when I press the "wrong" key in DOS or some other noise when I press something in device manager (can't remember how to replicate it right now). I've tried playing sounds through Sounds in the Control Panel, but it does not let me play it. So far, I've used Retro Systems Revival to install some 3rd party ICH7 chipset, DirectX 9.0c, and Intel 945M Graphics. and before you say it, no I don't want to use a VM. Not only have 2 ISOs not worked on VirtualBox, but I specifically want to put this on Bare Metal. The laptop currently has, I believe, a Core 2 Duo T2300, more than enough RAM (I had to edit system.ini to limit the maximum RAM), and 80GB HDD 7200RPM. If you need any more info, feel free to ask. Thanks, y'all!
