    Its a seagate (firecuda?). The data isn't worth enough to warrant sending off to a third party to recover. Just exploring all options prior to reformatting and do a fresh install of windows. Also for the learning aspect.

    I am trying to help a buddy with his laptop that stopped boot. When he loads up his laptop it instantly goes in Automatic repair. Chkdsk shows it as NTFS. When I plugged the HDD into my PC it shows as raw. I am trying to avoid formatting it as he had some data that he would like to have back. Any ideas how to restore his windows and not completely reformat his HDD?
