  1. I’m looking to upgrade my monitor and I’ve narrowed it down to these 3 (Gigabyte M27Q-X, LG UltraGear 27GP850-B or MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD). I’m leaning towards the M27Q-X however, I don’t really need the KVM function. Additionally, would I still be able to connect multiple devices to the M27Q-X and switch between them like a normal non KVM integrated monitor? Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback.
  2. I’m looking to move away from my anti virus + firewall provider (Norton) and moving to using Windows Security. My question is, would relying on Windows Firewall be sufficient. Additionally, can I prevent outgoing connections using Windows Firewall?
  3. I apologize if I post this in the wrong area. I have been getting quite a lot of BSODs lately, most with the stop code: memory management. Additionally, I have also been frequently experiencing the Aw Snap: status_access_violation page error in chrome. At first I thought that my PC may have been inflected so I ran a few AV scans using Norton and Norton’s Power Eraser (I believe that is what it is called) and a quick scan with Windows Defender but nothing was found. I have updated Windows along with my display and amd chipset drivers but no luck. I also ran a sfc /scannow which found errors that couldn’t be repaired. I also ran a memory test using the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool but for some reason I couldn’t view the results in the event viewer so I’m currently running an extended memory test using the same tool. I’m thinking that I’m just going to try reinstalling Windows when the memory test is complete. I’m also thinking of switching to just using Windows Defender and Firefox after the fresh installation. I’ve always been worried that just using Windows Defender wouldn’t provide adequate protection and thus I have been using Norton for many years. Would it wise to switch to just using Windows Defender or would I be putting myself at risk by not using a paid AV service? Any advice would be appreciated.
  4. Ah, thanks again for the info. I think I will move away from using a hidden network.
  5. Tyvm for the insight guys. I have a second question, are there any advantages to me keeping my SSID hidden or would I be better off not having a hidden network?
  6. I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot but when I was setting up the wifi on a device I was greeted by a message stating that using a hidden SSID may create a security risk. Stupid question but what kind of security risk would using a hidden network pose? Any insight would be appreciated.
  7. Hey all, I'm thinking of trying out Linux (Pop OS) for the first time on a laptop that I was gifted. I'm coming from mainly using Windows and I'm wondering which anti-virus/network security software would be best to use on this platform.
  8. I'm looking to install MSI Afterburner however I saw a story a few months ago stating that bad actors were using a malicious site to host malware laden versions of Afterburner. I shouldn't have anything to worry about if I were to dl Afterburner from MSI's site itself (https://www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards), correct?
  9. I'm looking to make the switch from using Lastpass as my password manager and I'm wondering what are some good alternatives? I have heard good things about 1Password and Bitwarden but I'm not sure if using an open source password manager is a positive or not. I'm also willing to pay for the service. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  10. I have been using Norton for well over a decade with little complaint however over the last week it has been closing itself and crashing randomly. I have reinstalled it and even reinstalled Windows but with no success, I don’t seem to be alone in this instance seeing as others are reporting the same issues on Norton’s forums. Anyway, I’m looking to switch to a different Antivirus provider as I can’t trust a program that keeps crashing. I’m looking for recommendations, I was thinking of trying Bitdefender but any feedback would be appreciated.

    Alphacool

I'm thinking of buying something from Alphacool using their website. Has anyone had any issues or concerns when ordering directly from them?
  12. Yeah they are lol. Would my needs be safely served by going the DMZ route?
  13. I’m just using it to supply a connection to my main router.
  14. Unfortunately my ISP’s router doesn’t offer that feature.
  15. So I had to reset both my ISP issued router and my main router as I couldn’t remember my passwords. I have a quick noob question. I believed that I previously had a DMZ set on my ISP’s router/modem to my main router’s IP address as I want my main router to control all my wireless and security settings. I also turned off the wireless radios on my ISP’s device. Is this a smart way of going about things or would I be better served using a different method.
  16. Thanks for the info. It is good to hear that it is quiet and has limited dust.
  17. Hey all, I'm looking to switch from my current case which is a Fractal Design R6 and I'm looking for something with better airflow than my current case. I was eyeing the Be Quiet Pure Base 500DX, Cooler Master H500 Mesh, Cooler Master TD500 or the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh. I'm leading towards the Lian Li however, I'm concerned about how well it handles dust given that the front panel has an opening on the bottom. Any feedback would appreciated.
  18. Ty for the reply. I take it that by default standard user accounts don’t have to install capabilities?
  19. I currently have a separate account with admin privileges along with my standard account for Windows 10 and I'm wondering, if I were to have the user account control settings set to their maximum setting and require a password would it really be necessary for me to have a separate admin account? The main reason for me having an admin account is to inform me and prevent any unwanted actions/installs on my PC but wouldn't the account control settings provide me with the same ability? I'm sure that I'm misunderstanding this and any your feedback would appreciated.
  20. I'm using a Define R6 case with 3 Noctua NF-P14s (2 front + 1 rear).
  21. I ran a 20 min stress test using 3D Mark and the highest temp that I got was 71c.
  22. Hey all, I recently moved from a old Haswell CPU to the 5600x however, my idle temps seem really high. I'm idling in the range of 55-65c. Is this normal? My old CPU would idle around 30-40c. I'm currently using a Noctua NH-U12S as my cooler and I checked to make sure that it was seated properly. Any advise would be appreciated.
