  1. I think i found what i need, would need 2 of them though. If i understand it right, it just converts the pwm signal from the header to the equivalent dc voltage output and i should be able to at least control them with the bios step ups even if the software doesnt work, right? https://www.newegg.com/phanteks-ph-pwhub-02-black/p/N82E16811984030?item=N82E16811984030&source=googleshopping&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-mobile&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-mobile-_-pla-_-accessories+-+case+%2f+rackmount-_-N82E16811984030&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAjwps75BRAcEiwAEiACMQ7GlLWFjLXn2gQwsGduf7V68OYnTeH08LES4kJ5lFfOiRMBJ5q7aBoCI2kQAvD_BwE
  2. Asrock B450m/ac, the bios is sort of confusing, i think i found a fan control page, it has the step up settings and some presets but i couldnt find anything to change it to DC
  3. Recently bought a newegg abs computer, yea, i know, but 1150 for a ryzen 5 3600, 2070 super, 16gb 3000 ram, 500gb ssd, partspicker was 1125, so yea. Anyhow, with the cpu cooler it came with it was getting it up to 90c, idled at 55, and gpu would get up to 80c and idle at 40. So i got a thermaltake 240mm aio, installed it easy as, the old thermal paste was applied terribly, only on 2/3 of it and squished out the side. So now gaming peak cpu temp is 55 with little spikes to 70 max, idles at 35, and gpu is 65 max, idling at 35. I mounted the radiator to the top with the fans blowing out through it, it was just passive intake with the cpu fan blowing at the glass. It has 3 front intake fans and 1 rear exhaust fan that came with it, hooked up with the pwm and controllable. Problem is, the radiator fans and pump are 3 pin, 100% actually isnt too loud really, they're only around 1800 rpm, i can hear the gpu fans running louder at just 50% when they come on, but i figure i can dial it down a bit for idle times. I just cant figure out how to switch it to dc so i can use argus to figure the minimums and whatnot. From what i understand, i should be able to switch it to dc and use normal fan controller software, no? Another thing i noticed when checking air flow at idle, my rear exhaust fan is now at a weird perfect negative pressure balance where air is just barely moving into the bottom of the fan and out of the top, fan spins properly though, and when it gets warmer and the pwm ramps up the air comes out on top and bottom. Just wondering if that could cause a problem somehow. So, if the b450m/ac doesnt have a way to switch to dc, are there fan controller modules that can be hooked up and controlled with software or something like that? I've found some that have a high/med/low switch, but i'd really like full software control
  4. Right on, makes me more comfortable playing for longer periods now. I havent ever cleaned it actually, been thinking about upgrading the ssd and ram, probably do it all then. But even with the warm normal use temps being okay, the fans are sort of loud when it gets over 75c doing normal stuff, like one level lower than max fan speed, with turbo off its barely noticable and only ramps up one level a couple times an hour if that.
  5. Tl:dr at bottom I have an hp omen laptop, 17-an012dx specifically, rx 580, i7-7700, 12gb ram, $1000 best buy black friday deal 3 years ago, still running great, but they all run a little hot. When i first got it i looked into it because 50c idle cpu temps, 90c when gaming, and 75c with 40% cpu usage, seemed a bit high just doing normal pc stuff, chrome, discord, music, video playing etc. I also noticed the speed reading at around 3400mhz even though its an unclocked 2.8 processor. So, i found out its normal for these laptops and it was because of Intel's turbo boost feature which turns on when cpu usage hits 100%. I guess it just stays on for way longer than needed after having a short 100% spike, running faster and hotter for no reason. Then i found a thing saying to limit the maximum processor state to 99% and that will disable the turbo. To do that its simple but its like 10 clicks, ain't no body got time for 10 clicks... Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings (right side) > Change advanced power settings > + Processor power management > + Maximum processor state Click an arrow Click apply Click a close it... So i did that and temps were around 55-65 max during normal use, no noticable slowness or anything. Even gaming wouldnt get past 75. But, i wasnt playing any cpu intensive games and totally forgot about it, skip to three years later now... Picked up assassin's creed origins for $7.50, interwebs say i should be able to get 40-50fps 1080p. Even on low 720p it was barely 30fps and super unstable... Googling issues randomly led to a thing about Intel turbo boost again, switched it back to 100% and now it runs super solid 40fps 1080 on high/extra high settings, 90c, fan screaming, but i figure its fine for a few hours at a time at least, never seen it more than 91c. Tl:dr Is there a program or way to make a clickable desktop shortcut of a script that toggles "Maximum processor state" between 99 and 100%? Or a way to add the function for individual games like a Steam launch options type of deal?
