  1. Hi there! I've got a bit of an issue where my TL-WR940N TP-link router is bottlenecking my net speed. Having talked with my net provider, I should be getting about 50/mbps speeds. When connecting to the modem via ethernet, that does come through, but through my router, the speed is only about 10/mbps. The device should be perfectly capable to handle the 50/mbps, as it's rated for speeds up to 450. I've fiddled around in the settings and sought out various guides, but I just can't seem to find a solution, nor the source of the problem. If I remember correctly, some months ago I did manage to get it to work properly, but since then it has been reset and I have no idea what I did differently compared to now. Any advice? Anyone had similar issues and found solutions? Thanks in advance for the replies
  2. Thank you all a ton for your helpful responses! Unfortunately I had some files on it, but they were not of importance. It's just going to be a hassle to re-download my games and I have backups of the rest of the stuff on other drives. I also saved the website AbydosOne linked... I have a feeling I'll screw it up again in the future and I'll need me some nice and easy recovery. Once again, thank you all for taking time out of your day to help this dummy! Have a pleasant morning/day/evening!
  3. So I was trying to make a boot stick, but accidentally used the "media creation tool" on my external HDD. I tried formatting the thing, but the capacity keeps displaying 32 gigs, when it is WAY more than that. It also says it's in FAT32, no clue if that is what it should be, or if it should say something else. Is there a way to undo this curse or am I forever doomed? Please help!
  4. I just want to throw in a single stick of 4 or 2 x 2gb sticks. No huge upgrades. The only thing it would be used for would be net browsing and office apps, but I also want to upgrade it to Win10, despite Win7 being an absolute gem.
  5. So I have this old thing, a Lenovo ThinkPad R61, sitting here in a bit of a sorry state, not being used much. I hope to change that. The first thing I want to switch out is the memory. It has 2 sticks of 512 MB, 667 MHz ddr2 in there. I want to switch them out and upgrade to at least 4 gigs, but I'm not sure what to get. The CPU in it is a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo and I'm afraid of compatibility issues, since I'm not very well versed in this sort of stuff. After the RAM I also want to give it an SSD. No need for the capacity to be sizeable, I just want it to be the boot drive and make the machine a bit more snappy. I heard that the outdated BIOS in this thing could limit the capabilities of a newer SSD. I guess I'll have to deal with that somehow too, but I'll deal with that later. What SSDs and RAMs would you recommend for this old machine? (old for me anyway lol)
  6. Honestly just some light gaming and sometimes video editing, but overall I just want a reliable lil machine that will pull through university with me. I've been thinking around and about $800 tops. Also I'm from the EU, just saying that if that would affect anything.
  7. I've heard that the Lenovo ThinkPad series is generally very trustworthy and more friendly in regards to user servicing and/or general upgrading so that definitely sounds good. The other ones I haven't really heard of before so I'll definitely do some research. Thank you for your answer! It helps a lot
  8. As the title says, I'm trying to figure out which brand to buy a laptop from. I'm wondering which ones are more trustworthy when it comes to hardware and overall build quality and which ones are not. I may have just had my circumstances be quite unlucky, but after using my newly bought Asus laptop for approximately one and a half days, it was absolutely bricked by itself in some way... Still no clue how it happened. Anyways, after taking it back to the store I'm left wondering what is a brand that I could feel safer ordering/buying from.
  9. I just decided that I'll take it back to the store and buy a different laptop from a different brand. Anyways, thank you for the reply and have a nice day!
  10. So here's my issue: When I try to turn it on, the power indicator flashes briefly for a second and the hdd gives off a little spin up noise for a short moment and then it's dead again. When I plug in a charger and then try to power it on the same thing happens + the charge indicator flashes orange, then white and it is dead once more. There's nothing coming up on the display, the hard drive shuts off after a second, the fan doesn't even wind up and the charger doesn't seem to be doing much when left alone, since it wont heat up at all. I've tried fiddling around via trying to do stuff with the buttons, but it just refuses to stay alive. Note: I have used this laptop before, even just hours before this happened. Also it's pretty new, bought it days ago. I have absolutely no clue what has gone wrong. Also the battery is built in and the OS is installed on an ssd, not the hdd. Thanks in advance!
