    There is a Protect NVR in the Early Access store that supports 4x 8TB drives in Raid 1 or 5.   Though I think it's just a matter of time before Protect will be allowed to run your own hardware.  You can always put Unifi cameras in standalone mode to output RTSP to whatever NVR/NAS combo u have.

    Based purely on his comment about Unifi Protect, I asume he uses the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus with some form of internal HDD storage as Unifi Protect does not support NAS storage. If he uses NAS storage he could be using the Unifi Video software installed on an unraid VM or something like that. 
     
    On the other hand, he could also use the camera's via some other 3rd party software/appliance.
