  1. I love old gear....I dont know why. I love the challenge of getting a modern title to play on a 1999 box. I just do, I love the challenge, the improvising, the learning as you go. the Old compromises of seeing just HOW LOW can you set the graphics (WHAT< Why can I play !.12 World of Warcraft on a private server in WIREFRAME????). One of my favorite things to do is find some trashed PC, and find something for it to do. SO my question, when trying to squeeze every bit of processing power and memory out of a box, the way we used to do it would be to make custom OS disks with all bloat torn out (and important stuff too) or Boot into Dos instead of windows, or Kill WIN after game is running ,....Now there are apps like Razer Cortex that will kill processes automatically, free up ram, or.... ....Launch game on its own Gaming Desktop...???? Looks like its running something like VRware , it temporarily suspends windows.......or should i learn more about gaming on Linux? I really like the idea of gaming on Kali.... Suggestions?
  2. Has anyone used a Leap motion for the gripping ? I just got a bunch of oddball hardware to try with steamVr to see if it really will work like middleware without having to mess around much. Mixing things like IR tracking with white light led tracking and hand tracking and fullbody tracking. Here are some of the things bought/found/fixed PS3 eye cameras x 3 with 3 Razberry Pi wifi, to be used with FreeTrack (trackiR, TrackHat) for head tracking at least, and room tracking at best. Kinect for Pc v2 and V1, people were doing cool stuff with this in vr 5-10 years ago. Dell Visor headset, WMR HP v1000-100 WMR Lenovo Explorer WMR Lenovo Explorer Controllers Occulus Rift Dk2 Headset (outside in ir tracked headset, specs similar resolution and fps to rift cv1, no sensor/Camera yet. (look close at ebay pics, the black square might not be what you think...anyone need a hdmi to vga box?...boo) Occulus Touch Controllers (but senor yet.....mmm) Leap Motion hand pose controller (hoping to add index like ) Xbox controllers little android bluetooth controllers lenovo light sabers big pile of other junk garbage and crap....OH and instead of Headphones, i set up a 5.1 surround sound system using a JBL PA with 15's, a Bose PA, powered by 2x Carver Pm-350 power amps, AND A mASSIVE POWERED subwoofer..I already broke a window.. MUHUHAHAHahhahhhahha planning to sell all this stuff off to fund a proper setup, haven't decided if Index is super important or not
  3. Could the bottleneck be the other direction? AS in the 1660 super can do 50% more with a better cpu? IDK,...passing thought nevermind , i thought i read 1st gen ryzen 5 that sounds like a good choice of parts to me.
  4. I think i can guess the answer to this but ive noticed only recently that a GPU can have the same number, but have radically different specs. Example., Rx 570. If i go on Newegg I see offerings of this card from around 100$ to 300$, same 8g, seemingly same configuration. What im guessing is the 570 only the actual GPU chip, i assumed they would alll use the same DDr5 ram too, now im not sure, maybe cheaper ones don't use Samsung ram? They all seem to have the same copper tubing and 2 fan arangement, now im thinking that might be different going from say MSI to.....i dont know....Gigabyte, What else can be different? Mine Overclocks to 1550 stable enough so far, but a 570 4g I bought a few weeks ago wouldn't go over 1400 or stable, I understand that there are always differences in manufacturing from one chip to another, but that seems like a big jump to me. Just Ordered a refurbished 2060, and now im concerned its might not be as good as it can be. Up til now I play at 1080 so something like an overclocked 570 was just fine, but Im just getting my VR set up (i have to play ALXY), and that seems like a good all around budget card to go with my 450b ryzen build. So, help a re-noob out, what's up with the huge price diffferences? One more thing, before I got the MSI 570 8g I had a XXXXwillnotslanderXXX 4gig, my PC saw it as 3g, any idea why?
