  1. ok well thank you again for the responses. i have 32 gb of ram and i have a gtx 1080 there is no thermal throttling either. now how would i go about reducing memory timings?? Thank you again
  2. Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a Alienware 17 r4 and I have been having occasional freezing during games, not a complete lock up just a momentary freeze. This happens some days and others it does not. When i run stress tests I never have this problem and it scores accordingly. Can someone tell me what I should be looking at. Also if I overclock it seems to get worse idk if it is a voltage thing or what. Someone please with some idea to help me anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time in advance.
  3. Hey, AceBoogie.

I have been able to get some help from your post in the forum you created because I have the same AW model as you do.

    I7-7820hk, gtx1080

I wanted your help on something that I am struggling with.

I am getting PL2 and EDP OTHER error on throttlestop.

I wanted to copy your settings but unfortunately, I was not able to see what you changed in TPL settings and CPU cache in FIVR.

I did not go 4.4~4.5 like you did but set at 3.9 but those two errors do not seem to go away.

If you are still active in the forum, I hope that you can give a friend a reply. Thanks mate.

  4. You should make sure you know what your talking about before you jump on a forum and sound not so smart...
  5. Ok so I have had a AW17R4 for a few months now, and I have had issues getting it to perform the way it should. Now through lots of searching and asking people I knew I pretty much fixed my issues. But if you go to your control panel and to the power options menu then to edit plan settings. From there go to change advance power settings find processor power management find maximum processor state and change it from 100% to 95% you will see a drop in temps and no effect on performance as far as I can see. Please let me know if this works on all laptops try and I hope this helps everyone who is having thermal issues.
  6. well I have done all the things you said and I have fixed it so I had already set pl1 and pl2 to 100000 but I did some undervolting and messing with setting in throttlestop and now I am getting 4.2ghz all cores and no PL or thermal throttle thanks for the help everyone!!! also liquid metaled it and my temps are 86 degrees at full load so I am very happy I have some head room to maybe go for 4.4 as that is what I should be able to get. SILICON GODS BE ON MY SIDE LOL
  7. and something else I am idling at this speed can you tell me how to make it idle like it should please? Yet here we go again I don't see how it could be a limiter I don't know the good news is its only edp other now
  8. so is there a way to find out if it is locked internally is there a written file I can look for or something? Since last night I have been messing around all night basically and I am massively undervolted now and am running at 4192mhz with no throttle. I am guessing you are right about the internal tpl. there should be a way to bypass something like that I should be able to use this to its full potential.
  9. Also if I set the tpl to 45 it is PLT (power limit throttling) right away under load. So wouldn't this suggest that there is something wrong either internally or in the settings or bios? Also there is a lot of fluctuation in the package and core temps I have repasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryo so that is not a issue.
  10. ok so since I posted last I had to unplug the cmos battery to reset the bios so the computer would boot again. I uninstalled throttlestops ini file and downloaded xtu. no matter what I change the settings to in xtu I get power throttled. I was wondering what would cause it to throttle even at stock speeds and let me know what screens you need to see please I would just like to get something close to what I was told I could overclock this thing 2. Thank you again for helping me.
  11. let me know if you need to know anything else. Thank you in advance for anyone who even tries to help me.
