  1. Budget (including currency): ~1000€ Country: Finland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Most demanding will probably be Call of Duty Other details: My friend needs a new PC, and I don't really feel like looking for parts and building one for him unless I have to. Are there any decent prebuilt PCs that have standard parts and don't come with 10GB of bloatware installed? If not, what parts would you recommend at that price?
  2. Oops, forgot about the GPU. He has an RTX 3060 ti. I was thinking if it would be a bottleneck. He also plays a lot of Counter-strike where the GPU is definitely good enough.
  3. Budget (including currency): 1000€ Country: Finland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games Other details: My friend is looking to upgrade his CPU and motherboard, and his budget is a bit over 1000€. He currently has a Corsair VS650 PSU, so that will need to be upgraded if he goes with an x670 or z790 mobo. What would be the best upgrade at this price? RAM will also probably need to be upgraded to DDR5, preferably 32 gigs.
  4. Not an option for me. Forgot to mention but my budget is 600€ max, so the higher end ones are way too expensive, and i'm not paying 500€ for something with 64GB of storage and 4GB of ram. Also i prefer android.
  5. I'm looking for a phone that will last a long time, so basically something that has software support for at least 3 years, and has good enough specs so it doesn't feel dreadful to use. Also it should be easy to repair because I will inevitably crack the screen at some point. The fairphone 4 ticks most of these boxes, but for some reason screen protectors and cases for that phone are really expensive. Anything else that gets close to this?
  6. How is the performance? I'm no mobile gamer, but I want my phone to be snappy and fast in normal use. Is there ever any delay when going to the home screen for example? Do you think it will last until the software support ends? Are there any general annoyances with the phone?
  7. I've been trying to find a website where you can pick 2 parts and compare their specs and performance just to get a general idea of which is better and by how much. For GPUs I've found Techpowerup has something like this, when you go to the page for any GPU, there is a chart with relative performance to other GPUs, but i haven't found anything like this for CPUs.
  8. Yeah, it's good enough most of the time, but more performance is always better. Maybe i should just wait for raptor lake or ryzen 7000, and then see if i should upgrade.
  9. Budget (including currency): 400-600€ Country: Finland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming & game server hosting Other details: I currently have an I5 9400F. I upgraded from my old 1050 Ti to an RTX 3060 ti, and it's bottlenecked by the CPU in almost every game. A ryzen 5600X or 5800X would probably be a good upgrade, but how long would it hold up? Would it still be enough in 3-4 years when i upgrade my GPU? Should i just upgrade to a mid tier CPU like the 5600X or I5 12600K, and upgrade them in a few years along with my gpu?
  10. I have this old HP prebuilt PC which i was thinking of using as a game server. It has a Delta Electronics DPS-460DB 460W PSU. It's from 2011 or 2012, and it wasn't used for a few years Here's a picture of it
  11. I have the ifixit pro tech toolkit which has those tools, but even those don't fit under the glass There is just no space at all as you can see in the attached image.
  12. The iFixit one was actually the first one I watched, and it was just as useless on this part. I guess I'll have to just keep trying.
  13. I have watched multiple teardowns, none of them go into any detail on that part. I can't get a guitar pick in between because the glass won't move at all.
  14. The adhesive just won't loosen at all. The phone also cools down really fast after trying to heat the adhesive, so maybe it just doesn't get hot enough or something? Does anyone who has dabbled with phones have some tech tips?
  15. That usb adapter is a good idea, didn't even cross my mind. Thanks!
  16. I got an old pc from a friend that wouldn't boot, and he wanted some pictures and stuff out of it. When i tried it myself, the hard drive made horrible noise, even when i was in the bios (you can hear it in the video i added) and it got stuck on "windows is loading files". Well, it didn't get stuck, it just was very slow and the bar would move once every few minutes, so i decided to just shut it down and move the drive in an another pc. When i moved to a second pc, it somehow wouldn't boot. It just got stuck loading windows, even when i wasn't booting from the probably dying drive. Is there anything i can do besides taking it to a shop that repairs dead drives? Should i just wait and see if it ever loads windows? VID_20211226_205647.mp4
  17. It's an asus FX505DV. I've heard laptop coolers don't really work that well on this model because it gets most of it's air from a grille above the keyboard. If i apply it, i will also use conformal coating so if it goes off the die, it shouldn't kill the laptop.
  18. So i bought some thermal grizzly conductonaut for my laptop because it's loud and noisy AF. I just realized, that when I'm walking to school during winter in -15ºC, the laptop probably gets cooler than 10ºC, which is the minimum recommended temperature for the conductonaut. I was just wondering, what actually happens to it under that temeprature. Is it super bad for the laptop?
  19. Maybe. The problem i'm having is that under a significant load the clock speed drops to ~600MHz. Any nvidia control panel settings or overclocking doesn't help at all, except the power limit in msi afterburner, which increases the speed to 700-800MHz
  20. it's windows 10, I've just customized the title bar. The same thing happens when trying to flash an older bios for the same card.
  21. I have an asus strix gtx 970 which isn't working properly. I have tried pretty much everything except flashing the bios. When i tried to flash it, after it asked me to confirm the update, it just didn't do anything. I have the correct bios for the card.
  22. It looks kinda in between a grease and foam, not sure which one it is. also it's a perfect square, not spread out at all. The big one is on the vrm's. Should i change them or can i just put it on with the old ones? I don't play anything too gpu intensive anyway, 60-70% usage max.
  23. I just disassembled my Asus TUF FX505DV because it was running really hot. Those lighter colored things on the memory chips in the attached image are thermal pads i think, do i need to replace them too, and if so, will just a tiny drop of normal thermal paste do the trick?
  24. Yeah, but even if the drive is completely empty, it should still be recognized in the bios, right?
  25. Forgot about that, it's probably enabled by default on a prebuilt, right? Any other just in case that is not the solution?
