  1. Sorry for the late reply but I looked at the log for the clone I did and it says it was a "Intelligent sector copy" and copied each sector which I assume is the same as the sector by sector cloning you said about. Anyway I have decided to securely erase the HDD and SSD because of the Trojan as I want to make sure it's gone. Thanks for the help about the cloning and about the Trojan as I have now read the whole website that you quoted from. Many thanks, ComputerUser
  2. Okay, thanks for the help I will try what you said and see if it works for my laptop. If it works I will come back with a reply.
  3. This might be a long post because I have a lot to explain. The problem I am having is that my laptop won't boot into windows after cloning the old drive and putting the new one in. I had taken the SSD out of my laptop to use it my PC instead and I had brought a new HDD to put in it instead. Because I didn't want to install all of my programs again instead I took the SSD out of the laptop put it in my PC and put the new HDD in my PC as well. I then used Macrium Reflect to clone the SSD data to the HDD. The data was cloned and so I put the HDD into the laptop, reassembled it and booted it up. I expected it to just go into windows but all I get is a black screen (expect the back light of the screen) and the mouse cursor with it's blue circle spinning next to it and the blue circle flickers. Oddly, I can access Windows project bar by pressing the Windows key and p but that is it. So, after trying to fix the problem in the BIOS with no avail I try to boot into safe mode with networking instead but all I get is an error box (please see picture attached for error). I go back to my PC which still has the SSD in it from the Laptop (I have not cleared any of the data yet) and tell Windows Defender to do a full scan. A quick scan was done yesterday and nothing came back. But, when I did a full scan today it said I had a Trojan on the SSD. This is very worrying as I have had that SSD in the laptop for a year or two now. Anyway, I quarantined the threat and removed it using Windows Defender. The laptop was working before I took the SSD out of it. The details of the Trojan is attached and the laptop I have is a HP pavilion 15-n267sa. I am right now using my PC and if you are wondering the reason I had an SSD in that laptop was because the original HDD in it died years ago. I would very grateful if any of you can help my fix my laptop and if any of you know what that Trojan is and if I should be worried about it since the SSD has been connected to my PC for a few hours. If you need any more information about my laptop or PC or the Trojan then I would gladly give it if it's reasonable. Many thanks in advance, ComputerUser.
  4. Thanks for info and as I seem to have got the same problem when downloading an .iso file from Lenovo's website then I think it's something to do with my ISP or something local like my drives etc. I am going to mark the above as solved as I think it answer's my question and I might reconsider torrenting the Ubuntu .iso to see if it makes any difference. Many thanks to all who posted here to help me and thanks for the friendliness as well. I will come again if I need help to fix a different problem. Kind Regards, ComputerUser
  5. I've decided against torrenting as I have looked up about it and I would rather not do it. But if any of you can help me more then I would greatly appreciate it if not don't worry about it. Many Thanks, ComputerUser
  6. Thanks for the info, Just downloading a game right now and I am getting high receive speed on task manger of 100+ Mbps but it's fluctuating massively. Still, it's an improvement than the .iso files. I will try the torrent option with Linux to see if it makes any difference.
  7. I am based in the United Kingdom and I went on to the mirrors page on Ubuntu and I am downloading a mirror as I type. It does seem to be quite faster at the start of the download but sometimes it randomly just drops in speed as I am watching it on task manager. It seems to have just come to a halt when I have hit 1.1/2.5 GB.
  8. To start off, I'm new here so if i make any mistake or forget to put something on here then please bare with me. I am happy for anyone to reply and if you need more information I don't mind giving it (reasonable information). The problem I am having is that when I am downloading an .iso file (E.g. Ubuntu) it takes way to long than it should be. I can do an internet speed test before and during the download and I am getting 300+ megabits per second but when downloading the .iso file it's going up very slowly. For example, I have a Ubuntu .iso download downloading right now and it's 2.5 GB big and Chrome is saying it's going to take about an hour to download it and that time is fluctuating. Not only that but I am connected via Ethernet and during download task manager is saying that it's receiving 3.5 Mbps and only sometimes going above 10 Mbps. Web pages seem to load fast and snappy and I've tried to install other items like the Chrome Launcher to see if it's just my internet or the website and things like that seem to download fast and fine. Also, only a week or a few days ago I was trying to download a different .iso file from the Lenovo website and I was getting the same problem then. At that time, I just assumed it was the website and didn't think much of it but since it seems I'm getting the same problem again I think it's something to do with my PC. Any help would be much appreciated as I don't want to wait around for ages just download a .iso file. I am using Google Chrome and I have the Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM if that's any help. Many thanks in advance, ComputerUser
