  1. Hi, I'm currently having a problem with my headphones microphone. Basically my pc reads the pause button on the headphones as if it were the microphone input. I've realized this because when I speak into the microphone no sound gets recorded, while if i press the pause button on my headphones wire a sudden audio spike at maximum volume is recorded. I suspect that is due to the specific pin layout of this headphone model, because when trying another older model it works just fine. (No, the microphone is not broken because it has always worked perfectly with my phone). For a few days I thought it was an unsolvable issue, until today. I've installed Linux in dual boot and as if by magic the microphone was working! Hence it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, but rather a software one. My motherboard is a MSI b550 gaming edge wifi and I have Realtek Audio Console installed. Could it be a driver issue? Or did I get some settings wrong on Audio console? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Enry
  2. Hello, I need help choosing between these two drives: Adata sx8200pro 1TB and samsung 970 evo plus 1 TB. I can currently find them both on amazon at the same price (around 146-150€). According to online reviews (tom's hardware for example) the adata is faster when it comes to random read and queue depth 1, whilst the samsung is faster in sequential read and high queue depth. I've also heard that samsung has very good reliability, but I'm worried about the fact that the superior performance in sequential read might be useful only in very specific situations while for gaming and everyday use what matters most is random read with low queue depth. Is my understanding of these concepts right? And if it is, is samsung's reliability really superior to adata's so that it is a better choice even if the everyday performance is slightly worse? Thanks in advance for the replies.
  3. Hi, I am planning a new build and I'm wondering if buying a new 3rd gen ryzen is worth the extra cost. I live in Europe and here I can find the 3900x at around €430, the 5800x at €540 and the 5900x at €660. I use the pc for moderate non-competitive gaming, video editing and programming. The 5800x here is 110€ more and has 4 less cores, while the 5900x has the same number of cores and is undeniably faster but costs 230€ more. My question is: is it worth it to buy the new ryzens or it makes more sense to just go for the 3900x, even if it has worse single thread performance? Is there also a noticeable difference in system responsivity due to the worse single thread performance? Thanks in advance for the replies.
  4. But those cards are not capable of ray tracing...
  5. I'm building my first pc because my old pre-built has become so slow it's almost unusable and I'm not sure which GPU I should get. I was thinking about the new 3070 which has a very compelling price to performance ratio, but I currently have a 1080p 72hz monitor and I'm not going to upgrade it in the next one or two years. What I'm wondering is: should I buy the 3070 which may be a little overkill now for my monitor setup but will be futureproof in the next few years with the increasing use of raytracing in new games (since current games use raytracing only for shadows or reflections etc., but I suppose in the near future it will be user more intensively)? Or should I get something like a 2070 wich is about 80€ cheaper but has a much worse price to performance ratio? Do you think the rtx 2070 will drop significantly in price once the 3070 comes out? Because if that's not the case then I probably should go for the 3070 or perhaps the 3060ti if it comes out at around the same time. Thanks in advance for the replies.
  6. Do you think that a tuf Gaming B550-plus or a msi b550-a pro would be more suitable for the 3900x in terms of vrm quality? I found them around 150€. Regarding the 3900x choice I'm not planning to upgrade the cpu for at least 3-4 years so I thought a 3900x would be futureproof enough. Do you think it is still overkill?
  7. Gaming but also video editing and some multithreaded programming. As for the motherboard, all the ones with better vrm (according to the Am4 vcore vrm rating sheet i've found linked on many forums) costs at least 100€ more than the tomahawk on Amazon I don't know if I'm missing something, but the msi website states it supports up to 4133 via XMP https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX/Specification
  8. Hello, I'm building a new Pc with a 3900x cpu and b450 tomahawk max motherboard. I found these 3 ram kits on Amazon and I'm not sure which one I should buy. The Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 currently costs around 72€, the G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GIS is 60€ and the Crucial BL2K8G36C16U4B is 80€. Which one would be best in terms of performance? All of them are CL16, but the Crucial one is 3600mhz instead of 3200mhz. The G.Skill is cheaper but it seems to me that the heat spreader in thinner than that of Corsair. Thanks in advance for the help.
  9. I was thinking to buy a msi b450 gaming plus max paired with 3900x with amd stock cooler. Will the performance drop due to the motherboard be too drastic? Is it really necessary to buy a more expensive x570? I'm not talking about marginal gains, but big performance drop. And is it really necessary to buy an aftermaket cooler? Because if the performance drop is substantial maybe I'll just go for a 3700x which is only 65w tdp and so requires less cooling ad a less powerful mb.
  10. Hello, I was looking to buy a Corsair Carbide spec-delta RGB case with MSI Tomahawk MAX motherboard. I'd like to know wether it's possible to adjust rgb light brightness in the stock case fans setting the brightness to zero. I'm asking because even though I appreciate the rgb light I'd like to be able to turn it off at night or maybe while I'm watching a movie.
  11. The price is about 40-50€ higher than 3700x if I remember correctly, unless I buy from 3rd party sellers on amazon, but at least for cpu and gpu I prefer to buy directly from amazon just to be safe in case of damaged product or other problems. But apart from that, I've read over the internet that 3800x (105W TDP) performance is only marginally better than 3700x (65W TDP), so I would probably need to buy a dedicated cooler rather than using the stock one.
  12. Thanks for the replies. Yes, I also think the 3900x is a bit overkill today, but do you think 3700x will age well? I was planning to save money on the gpu for now since I have a 1080p60Hz monitor and maybe buy nvidia 3000 series along with a new monitor in one/two years, but I'd like a CPU that will serve me well for at least 3/4 years.
  13. Hello, I am trying to build my first pc. My current pc is a pre-assembled HP with an intel i7-7700 cpu and nvidia gtx 1050 2gb gpu and I am planning to build a more powerful pc that will last a few years without becoming obsolete. Below I've listed the components I was thinking to buy. I'd like some advice on a few things: First of all, I have a 1080p 60hz monitor and I'm not planning to buy a new one immediately, so I've opted for a rtx 2060 for now and maybe upgrade it in one or two years with the new nvidia 3000 series and a new monitor. I play mostly offline games, like the witcher or assassin's creed for example, so I don't need 100+ fps, but I like to play at high graphics settings. The question is: will the rtx 2060 be enough to play the next one or two years games at 1080p 60 fps high settings (also considering the new DLSS 2.0) or I should save money on the cpu and buy an rtx 2070 super? Also I was wondering wether the 3900x is too overkill for gaming/video editing and some multithreaded programming and if it would be better to just buy a 3700x. And I have a last doubt: is the 3900x stock cooler sufficient with no overclocking (and the automatic Precision boost overdrive) or will it thermal throttle and reach too high temperatures with the risk of damaging the cpu? Thanks in advance for the replies.
