  1. I am trying to increase my audio listening experience. I've bought inear monitors and enjoy using them. I recently started a trial with Tidal to try to see what hifi audio sounds like. I notice a little difference but 3 times the difference when I compare to Spotify. I listen on my iphone and windows PC. Is it the hardware that is holding me back or are my ears just not picking up the quality? Would a sony walkman increase my listening experience? I am looking at the NW-A306.

You generally need a compatible CPU to update the BIOS. Some motherboards have a dedicated button that allows you to update the BIOS without a CPU installed using a specifically formatted flash drive. Your motherboard, unfotunately, does not.

If you bought it in a store, take it back and ask if they'll flash it for you. Otherwise you have three options. Try your luck with another board, get a board that supports BIOS flashback (off a USB with no CPU installed), or return your CPU to buy a Ryzen 7 3700x instead.

Some motherboards will say 'Ryzen 5000 ready on the box'. That means they already have an updated BIOS from the factory. Get one of those?

    Thank you for this info!

I thought my motherboard with compatible with the new gen CPU :(.

If I take the whole PC to a microcenter (even thought I bought the MOBO from newegg) can they update the bios?

If not I guess the only solution would be to change either the CPU or MOBO right?

  3. My PC won't post....

The DRAM light on the Motherboard (ASUS TUF Gaming x570) is on and I've tried the following:

    - Insert 1 RAM stick in each slot

    - Start up with the CLRTC pins connected with a screwdriver

    - Checked the compatibility of my RAM with my motherboard

All lights of RAM, PC, and VGC are working as well as the fans for the CPU, VGC, and case.

  4. I am confused on the effects of watching 1080p content upscaled on a 4k monitor vs a native 1080p monitor. And what about the reverse situation, 4k content on a 1080p. I have heard it is pointless to buy a 4k monitor if all I am watching is 1080p on youtube, anime, and even lower quality on streaming sites.

Is the only point in buying a 4k monitor just for gaming and video editing?

Is it better to just buy a really nice 1080p high refresh rate monitor vs the 4K LG gaming monitor?

Only Thunderbolt docks support >1080p. Dell Thunderbolt docks have one type C port on the thunderbolt module that supports a monitor

    https://www.delltechnologies.com/resources/en-us/asset/data-sheets/products/electronics-accessories/dell_thunderbolt_dock_wd19tb_spec_sheet.pdf

The docks only support 60hz, however that's reading too much into it. What the docks support is a fixed resolution bandwidth. So if you have two 4K monitors at 60hz, you can't run them at 120hz, but you might be able to run one at 120hz. You might not be able to if the dock's firmware doesn't support it though, as the dock itself is it's own MST displayport hub. So even though you have 4 outputs on it, collectively you can only drive 3 FHD monitors, 2 4K monitors or 1 5K monitor. You can't use all the ports.

So I wouldn't make a purchase decision based on this assumption. The alternative are Displaylink docks, which are software GPU's and don't even try gaming on them, they suck.

Thank you for the info!! I guess I’ll hold off on buying a dock for now and eventually get a PC when things are back in stock

  6. I have a dell XPS 15 (2019) that I have connected to a 27in 1440 res in 60 hz screen via usb-c. I was wondering in the future if I could run a 4k monitor at 120 hz if I connect my laptop to a thunderbolt dock and then connect the 4k monitor via display port and my current monitor via usb-c.

Can docks like the caldigit SOHO or TS3 plus do this? What do they really do in terms of powering monitors?

  9. So it looks like Spotify doesn't allow you to change your EQ. And I noticed the music sounds a little better on Youtube but still doesn't reach the quality of the iphone. I was able to play around with the Windows EQ settings and enabled the enhancements "bass boosted, Headphone virtualization, and loudness equalization". Still doesn't match the iphone but it's an improvement so thanks guys!

If I were to just invest in greater audio would a DAC work even with a bluetooth headset? Or would a program like Equalizer APO work?

  10. I'm noticing that listening to music via spotify sounds better on my iphone (XS) vs my PC (XPS 15 2019). Why is this? The bass is more present and the overall volume is louder, and the clarity is noticeable on the iphone compared to the PC. I don't think I'm imaging this, so what's the reason? And how can I make the sound better on a PC? Thanks in advance!

Build looks ok. Will run most of the games just fine.

But you have chosen overpriced components when you can spend quite less for similar performance.

Also rx6800 is released for $579, so how in the Neptune's moon are you getting it for $499??

See, this build looks much more balanced...

Thanks for the advice! Sorry I meant to choose the RTX 3070 because it looks like that graphics card is better for overall tasks and not just gaming.

  12. Budget (including currency): $1500

    Country:  US of A

Games or workloads that it will be used for: Valorant, 4K video editing, Fortnite, Among Us

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

This pc is for a friend. They currently game on a dell xps 15 2019. They have an lg 27 in 1440p w/ 144-fps, but can only drive75 FPS due to HDMI. I know the graphics card will be able to Keep up with the monitor but Would this pc be able to handle 4k editing? And should we wait for reviews to come out on the amd graphics cards? Also I know some money is going to RGB, but it’s necessary....for frames of course.
    Thanks!

I would go for a 5600X instead on a B550 motherboard. You'll get a definite gaming performance boost from it over the 3700X, and it should be about the same price.

My main concern with the 5600x is that it has it only has 6 cores and I'm afraid that it wouldn't be able to handle multiple applications at once and have slow render times compared to the 3700

I’ll think you’ll be fine. I run a 3800x at 4.4ghz all core with a rtx 3080 on a 1440p 144hz monitor and haven’t seen a bottleneck issue yet. You being at 4k should put less strain on the cpu also.

What games do you play ?

I don't play that many demanding games, Valorant, Fortnite, Rocket League. I want to play the new star wars squadron, The last of us, and Cyberpunk (when It comes out )
