  1. Are you familiar with CTR? As far as I've read and researched the system resources are very minimal. But I would definitely prefer to do it in BIOS. I researched everything for 3 months prior to building my first PC (back in March 2020), and even with all of that knowledge I couldn't figure it out. I cant seem to find anything for Gigabyte x570 boards that give more insight. So I kind of "gave up" and used the software. Thanks for your input. PS. : I love you.
  2. Whats up everyone? I have been using CTR 2.1 for a few months. I attempted overclocking on my own with my old 3700x, but just couldn't get it down. All youtube videos seemed to be too specific to motherboard manufacture and BIOS tools, that were never the same as my Gigabyte (Aorus Elite Wifi). I got CTR back then and it got my 3700x to 4.375 which I never was able to even HIT on my own or with PBO. After some months of trying, I got a 5900x and swapped it, and after much more tinkering was able to get it to work with my 5900x. I am getting about 4.5 and boosting for longer up to about 4.8. I was hoping to get to 4.9 or higher, but I just don't know how to get it there, and don't want to mess anything up. My cooler is the NZXT x63 280mm AIO. So all of that said, I am trying to find out if anyone has experience with Windows 11 and CTR 2.1. I have hit up Linus on Twitter as well as Jay and Gamers Nexus, but nobody will cover the 1usmus software, which is obviously their prerogative. I am hoping to find out if I am wasting my time trying to run this program with Windows 11 and 5900x, or if I should be trying to use Ryzen Master to achieve a higher clock on the CPU. If anyone knows of a professional or well layed out video for overclocking on Gigabyte BIOS with Ryzen 5900 or any 5000 series, I would be interested to find it. Or if anyone has personal experience with overclocking using these pieces of software. P.S.: I love you. edit 1: added a few words to make sense of a sentence
  3. Just wanted to update. First, thank you for your advice and opinions. I appreciate the time you took to respond. My card was not power throttling. HWinfo and GPUz showed thermal as my reasoning for performance cap. When you dip that low, something is definitely wrong. The GPU never went above 72. I checked so my software first to be sure that wasn't limiting me, which it wasn't. I ordered both 1mm and 2mm thick, because I didn't know what the thickness was from any research. For anyone wondering it was 2mm for all of the pads inside. taking it apart was simple. ZOTAC was absoulte garbage at applying both the thermal paste and the pads. The quality of the pads were so bad they were crumbling apart when I tried to remove them. The thermal paste wasn't covering the entirety of the GPU, but pretty close. However it was very dry and crusted, hardly elastic at all. I applied my thermal pads. Which was tedious and terrifying, and I ran out of 2mm pads so I had to use stacked 1mm for two of the rows of memory. I applied a generous helping of kryonaut paste to the chip. I kind of felt like the Verge...but hey I didn't want to risk anything and not have enough. I did the memory pads on the back first, then screwed it back on and did the front, forgot to mention that. after over an hour of testing and benchmarking, my memory is down over 15 degrees. My GPU was getting close to 80 at peak, but it never throttled. I was staying at 1835-1865 on the core, with turbos going up to 2055. I no longer have thermal issues or throttling issues. In fact, I was able to get a better overclock stabilized to 125 Mhz core and 1050 9n the memory. Which is up about 25 and 50 respectively. I am seeing a performance improvement of 10-15% depending on the game or program, and my 3d Mark scores are in line. further testing is still required as it's only been a few hours, but things look to be normal now. It's a huge relief. For anyone about to do it, it's not as bad as you think.
  4. Hey Guys, I've had the card for about 7 months, I got lucky to find one used at MSRP of 1500. However, I never really dove deep into testing out through benchmarks. I was getting about what I expected out of games, maybe a bit less. But yesterday I started to benchmark while watching HWinfo and GPUz. My GPU never went over 72 degrees. I always thought that was pretty normal as I keep my fan curve agressive and keep my side panel off when gaming on my case. I had it overclocked by 100mhz this whole time on the core, and 1000 on the memory. I ran Time Spy and was getting about 15-20 % less than the average score on graphics, and overall for that matter. I thought this was a fluke. But multiple runs and multiple restarts, same thing. I never had RTSS on before, so I enabled that. I saw that my gpu once it hit 72 was throttling the clock down from 1850 or so all the way down to 1300 on some runs. I thought that was absurdly low, which it certainly is. But 72 is not hot, and that should not be happening. My memory seems to be getting hotter faster in the card. I thought this was my overclock, so i sent that back to 0. Same problem. Ran it at stock core clock. Same problem. Google searches turn up some instances of bad thermal pad and paste application. OK, but that surely has to be rare....right? What kind of shitty manufacture would take a halo flagship card and apply the damn paste or pads incorrectly on them? But I digress....I built my PC myself, and have become pretty comfortable with that. I have upgraded several parts, including my CPU and installed an AIO. I have ordered thermal pads, and they are here now. But opening up my 1500 dollar card is a bit daunting and nerve racking to be honest. It looks simple enough. But still, very nerve racking. My question is this; is there ANYTHING else I should consider before doing this? Does anyone else have any experience with the trinity 3090? I ordered both 1mm and 2 mm thermal pads, because I couldn't find solid information anywhere about which one I'll need. If I am on the right track, great...is there ANYTHING that anyone can tell me to avoid or be careful of? anything I need to do to it while it is opened up? All help and tips are welcomed and appreciated. Sorry for the long story. I talk a lot when I'm nervous I guess.
  5. Hey Guys, I have never owned a laptop, and have invested heavily in my desktop setup. I have tons of games. I will be traveling for work as well as have some down time at work, so i purchased the Gigabyte G15 YC today. It will be here tomorrow, but I am curious how all of my games will work. Can I just log in to the different game launchers and download the games that I have purchased? Most of them are on steam, but I also have Call of Duty and Red Dead 2 through those launchers. I tried to just google search this, but found that most topics involve remote play, which I don't think I will be doing. Any input is greatly appreciated!
  6. It went incredibly smooth! He did everything I asked for, and I've now got the card installed. It blows me away, and gives me a ton of faith in fellow PC enthusiasts. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning!!!!
  7. This all made me feel much better. I have been pretty insistent and i feel like ive been thorough. Between the tips here and on r/buildapc thread, I have made this research about as safe as possible. On another note, I cant wait to install this thing in my build! I should have just done it back in April. This is my first ever PC build and I went with a 5700xt because I wasn't sure I would love PC as a hobby. But holy sh** I don't know if i will ever stop enjoying this stuff. What a wonderful, wonderful world I live in.
  8. I asked him why he would consider this since he is selling his, and his answer was that he has a radeon 580 card, he lost his job recently and needs the money. So he will still have a system to play games, and can still use the PC parts I am trading. Seemed to make sense, unless he is just a fantastic liar. lol
  9. I am getting it for $950 US. I am also throwing in two 8 gb 3600 ram sticks and two NZXT non rgb fans that I am not using. I have been looking for a local deal for about two months, and this is the first person that was willing to negotiate on their list price. That is a great Idea. So I will ask him to run a benchmark and put a piece of paper with my name on it. I truly think he has a 2080Ti, and he has been responsive to all of my questions. It makes me feel a little better that this is a guy doing this through Facebook Marketplace, where he has his real name and info and stuff. It is less anonymous. The only thing that I am worried I won't be able to catch is if he comes to meet up and has a 2080 strix instead or something like that. But I guess I didn't consider that he might have a card that is worn out and only is stable enough to boot up and show GPUz.
  10. Understood, and thank you for the reply. I guess I am just taking a big risk because I will not have that option. We live 4 hours apart, and we are meeting halfway. So there will be no way to test the unit. Any secondary thoughts? I thought that GPUz had created a way to stop these BIOS flashes by adding the word (FAKE) to the first part of the description of the item? Am I being naive? Or am I being overly cinical?
  11. I am looking to buy a 2080ti used. I am getting a good deal, and the gentleman seems honest. He has accommodated all of my requests for different photos and this is through Facebook Marketplace. He has been a facebook member since 2008, and lists some personal information on his profile. However, I have been very nervous about getting a card used and being duped by the seller. Is there something that someone knows of that can distinguish this card physically from the other ROG Strix models? I have video of him showing me the card and then the GPUz Screen as well as System info in Windows. I also asked him to send me a picture of the HWinfo screen capture. Is there something that I can request a picture or info of that only the Ti model will have on it? Is there a serial number I can look up? When we are meeting, I won't have the chance to see it installed until I get it home. We are meeting halfway between our houses because we don't live close to each other. I know there is an LED button on the backplate, but looks like all the 2080 strix models have. Does anyone have any tips for me that can verify that i am not getting something different than what I am expecting? EDIT: I am just worried about getting a 2080 super or 2080 strix, I know the physical difference between 1080ti and all of the other strix models.
  12. Thanks so much! Going to get started installing new drive now.
  13. Ok. All of this is done after I've installed my new NVME into the PC physically though, right? Then open Reflect, do as you say. When it boots back up into the USB that's where my cloning process needs to begin?
