Hi everyone!
I am trying to recycle an old desktop PC that was mainly used as a headless linux server into a low-end gaming PC.
The currents specs are :
i5 2500k
8Gb DDR3 1066
crucial 240Gb SSD
no GPU... yet
I am a very occasional gamer and my goal is to be able to play a few games like Doom, Hitman, Metro Last Light and older titles like payday2, starcraft 2 at low-mid settings.
It would be totally possible with an entry level GPU at 1080p, the problem is that my main monitor is a 34" 1440p ultrawide.
I could not find a lot of benchmarks for such an odd pairing.
As far as I understand the huge CPU bottleneck will be a bit reduced at this resolution.
I am looking for the cheapest GPU option that would give me about ~40 fps with low/mid settings.
Would Rx570/Rx580 be ok?
Should I bother buying the 8Gb version since I won't be able and don't want to play latest games anyway?
What about second hand cards, Rx470/ GTX1060?
Thank you in advance
