  1. Okay, I got it! This (bleep) bug. Windows didn't register the position of the button in setup allowing the mic to be available for all apps. I hat to dig into the Registry editor to find the appropriate key and to force it by hand: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CapabilityAccessManager\ConsentStore\microphone\NonPackaged REG_SZ must be: Allow Frickin son of a bug.
  2. I've got my brand new gaming rig running Windows 10 version 1909 (18363.720). It's essentially the last update at the time of writing. In both the audio and privacy setups on Windows, I made sure that the microphone is allowed for all apps, not only for the Microsoft Store apps. I've got a headset with a microphone and two jack connectors (speakers and mic). The microphone works just fine on my Mac and on my PC (well, on the PC it kinda works, more about this below), whether directly plugged through the jacks or via an external USB sound card. For the purposes of troubleshooting my issue, I'm focusing only on the jack connectors. I have two sets of audio connectors on my PC, I'm trying with both (I'm also trying everything with the USB sound card just to be sure). The issue: the microphone works only with the Microsoft Store version of Skype! Not with the standard version of Skype, not with Discord, not even in the Windows audio input setup window! Yet, as I said above, it is allowed system wide. Any help would be more than welcome... ETA: just checked and yes, the microphone works with other apps from the Microsoft Store that capture sound. But not with non-Store programs.
